We had a great time in Uday Samudra Leisure Beach Hotel. The hotel does not only have 2 pools but is also directly at the beach (sand). Staff is very friendly and helpful, restaurants offer a variety of good food. There is a lot to see and to discover in India - in this hotel we found the place to recover from all the sightseeing activities we had before...
A lovely value for money hotel with beach access”
From check in until check out we really enjoyed our stay at the UDS. This was our last stop on our trip to Kerala. Every member of staff from the porters up to the management were so friendly and respectful. We liked our room which had everything we needed to enjoy a relaxing stay. The access to the beach was great and contrary to what other reviewers have written, the beach is great and you can swim in the sea. The local shops and restaurants are great and everybody is so friendly. Such a difference to the other side of Kovalam on Lighthouse Beach where everything is just too much! I almost don't want to write this review, as we may not get a room when we next visit Kovalam, but feel it is so worthy. We have been visiting Kovalam for six years but have never stayed at the UDS before. We will definitely stay there again and would recommend it. We feel it offers very good value for money and far outweighs any of the other hotels in the same category. Keep it up UDS, we will most definitely be back. Thank you. John and Debbie H (London).
Very relaxing stay”
The Uday Samudra is an excellent hotel to relax in, our room was large and clean and comfortable overlooking the pool. The pool was a real bonus clean, cool and very inviting. The breakfast was superb and the service was excellent. We didn't eat in the restaurants because they were a little expensive, but ate in the restaurants around the local area (which were again excellent).
Nice hotel .good Service”
We are stayed at Uday Samudra for 3night...we are attended a Gujarati food festival at hotel. Food was delicious.. Kids enjoy the pool too much staff courtesy was excellent. Chefs team is great... Thank you... And we have a suggestion to put kerala fest
Just what we needed”
Uday Samudra is a short ride from the airport. The entrance area is very impressive and the staff are very friendly. The gardens are imaculate. The breakfast is very good. The only thing which lets the place down is the staff at the pool area. A cup of very ordinary tea takes 30mins, because they are standing around talking. The service was awful. The food at the pool area is also disapointing. I ordered a grilled veg sandwich, it came as tomato and cucumber on toast with no dressing. YUK. It does let the place down a tad. As otherwise it would be quite brilliant.
Excellent Resort to stay in Kochi”
They have 3 swimming pools, private beach and good Breakfast/dinner menu. The Resort is also near Kovalam beach and light house. Airport is just 12 km away. Its most affordable 5 star property in Kochi. Swimming pool provides pool side bar where you can relax with your drinks and swim for leisure. Beach is bit rocky so you cant swim there but good for romantic walk early in the morning. Sunrise over Arabian Sea is stunning and if you choose your room wisely, you can witness it from your balcony. Overall its a good stay for me and my family for 2 days. Just a bit overcrowded though.
Great location & Ambiance”
the hotel is right on the beach which is the main usp, although the beach is not much frequented as compared to the main kovalam beach which makes the ambiance very serene.the hotel had a good spread out buffet for both veg & non veg connoisseurs. room's cleanliness could have been better, as there were red ants on the bed the moment we checked in, and the housekeeping had to be called thrice before the sheets were changed and some pest repellent sprayed...other than this there were no complaints about anything else...overall good experience..would recommend it to others as well
We stayed for a week at the end of May. It being off season we chose the Uday because it offered all facilities; several restaurants, snack bar, fully licenced service, free WiFi and 3 pools. The food at the restaurants was delicious and catered for all tastes.with standouts being the butter chicken and masala fried fish. The place has the feel of a small village, but with plenty of quiet places. We swam in the largest if the three pools, dodging the rain and thunderstorms common at this time of year. My partner visited their Ayverdic Centre on four occasions and thoroughly enjoyed the treatments and the informed, courteous and friendly staff. The staff at the Uday are fantastic and check out the guy running the chai station, an artisan. Our room was an ocean view room with stunning views of the sea.
Big hotel - good hotel”
The hotel is big - many rooms and a lot of facilites! Most rooms seems to have sea view and the view is really splendid! A fan on the balcony hade made our stay more comfortable. Samudra Beach is a calm beach with almost no salesmen bothering at all. A lovely restaurant with nice personnel, a good souvenier shop and wonderful ayurvedic massage.
Excellent value for money. I can imagine it being a lot nicer when it was new - things are worn out”
Pros - decent location - great value (even if you consider this a 4star) - good range of facilities. - services are cheap e.g. mini bar, spa, gift shop, room service - amazing massages (highly recommend this even if you are not staying at the hotel) -staff are always quick Cons - its rock "beach" not really any sand on it and nowhere really to sit, still a nice view i guess. - things are really dated, could do with a fresh coat of paint, replacing lamp shades, fixing door hinges and handles (curtain needed a wash) - furniture was worn as well as toilet seat. - I would recommend taking your own towel (and bedsheets), they have the feel of being very old, some of towels had like "perminant stains" in them. When i first arrived i was a little disapointed but by the time I left I was quite pleased. I expected more as the ratings/reviews i read made this sound like a somewhat premium hotel, but its not that, its still a good hotel at very good price.
Lovely hotel and good service”
The hotel is located in Samudra which is 4-5 kilometers away from Kovalam. It has a very small beach and when the tide is high there is actually no beach. But the hotel is clean and welcoming and the stuff is nice and smiling. There are two restaurants on the beach (not owned by the hotel) so it gives another option to dine.
Good hotel in nice setting”
we arrived off a very early morning flight but our room was ready and we were able to fall into the nice bed in our well appointed room and recover at leisure, a much appreciated fact after the flight! all the staff, from cleaners to reception were helpful and smiling and made us feel welcome. the location of the hotel is about 3 kms from kovalam beach so there is little outside life in the evening unless you take a tuktuk or visit one of the nearby restaurants. the public beach is hardly a beach so you should be content to sit by one of the pools if you want to sunbathe. water quality in the pools is a little cloudy but then so are most pools in india. at the time, we didn't rate the selection of food at breakfast but have subsequently come to realise it was better than average after visiting other hotels in kerala
Beautiful Hotel, Good location”
We booked at Samudra on the busiest week of their year. Through agoda, we got great rates. The hotel was satisfactory in all aspects except that it was mandatory that we pay for the Christmas Eve Dinner, that for 6 of us came to over $400. The food was ok, but not worth that amt. Otherwise we were very happy with our stay.
I was there for a night with my wife and two kids aged 5 and 2, hoping to give them a feel of the beach and staying beside it,hearing the tide sounds on and off. But unfortunately the beach behind the property gets deep quite soon and felt it’s unsafe for kids, but they have a coastguard all the time, still they being small kids, wasn’t comfortable. Going to hawa beach from there by car each time, made my whole point of staying there in the hotel baseless. That being said, the property is a wonderful property with three lovely, well maintained pools and neatly managed rooms. The kids had a good time in pool though. The ambience was wonderful and had a good time during the stay. The food was excellent too. But for people hoping to spend time at the beach, this might not be a best choice.
A wonderful place to restore, recover or relax”
Most people seem to find Kovalam after a long tour of Kerala! It is the place to relax! This property is very large and does have many groups stay so be prepared! but they have 3 swimming pools which works out great, an excellent authentic ayurvedic massage centre along with another more conventional type spa. They do have nightly entertainment & it is well suited for families. The location is ideal next to the beach and the staff are really working to give you an excellent service!
Very nicely located”
We were 2 families visiting for 6 days with kids from 7 to 13 years of age. The hotel was great for us with spacious rooms allowing an extra bed, 3 pools and the beach just outside the hotel gate. The beach was a bit too rough for the smaller kids with large waves and deep water but great for older ones. The local fishermen work on the beach just outside the hotel providing a wonderful insight into their work. Service was good, the breakfast buffet average. From time to time a smell of sewage in the bathrooms. There were some restaurants and shops just outside the hotel and a 5 min rickshaw trip from Lighthouse beach. All in all a great stay
Best Hotel for Family”
Even though I travel from Dubai and Stay in Different Hotels. This time i found for Family this is the best hotel to visit with kids as it is very close to beach, very friendly staff and kids enjoy the safety of the premises. The best of all hotels I have stayed in Trivandrum.
Good 3-4 star hotel with freindly service”
Kovalam not best location for beach lovers, beach norrow strip, interrupted by Wave breaker or natural rocks, but fine for family with 3 swim pool and 3 resturants
Uday Hotel 5***** Agoda* ”
When I arrived at the hotel at 5am, the hotel were not expecting me but as I carried receipts of payment, I was shown to my room quickly. The problem was Agoda, who I would not recommend. I would say the worse internet company I have ever had the misfortune to use. They had not informed the hotel of my payment. The room was clean but in need of updating. However, I was soon given another room, which was very large and superb, with all windows facing the sea. I did not eat at the hotel or use amenities but what sticks in my mind, was the high level helpfulness and friendliness of all staff. Well worth a visit. All my problems occurred booking with Agoda. The booking was a nightmare, as their grasp of English is poor or even zero. I will leave it there, as I want to move on.
ok hotel but I would not go back”
Be careful about reviews. There is another hotel Samudra next to the Uday. Had to call housekeeping about 10 times.
