Nice hotel at a good location”

Very close to public transport, helpful staff

The rooms are a bit on the small side, but nothing unusual for hotels in Tokyo. The hotel might be a few years old, but it is clean and reliable. The staff is VERY helpful and helped me find transportation and places I wanted to go. I felt really at home with a welcome like theirs. Paired with the very affordable rooms, this is a great place to stay. Air-condining and a small fridge on the room is nice when you visit Tokyo in the very hot and humid summer months. Also, the location is great, less than 150 meters from the closest metro exit. (For those that seem to have had a hard time finding the hotel, take exit 3 from Ueno metro station and turn around as you come up the stairs, you will then see Ueno train station in front of you, across the big street. Take the small street on your right and follow it for 120 meters, until the next big intersection. The entrance to the hotel is next to the restaurant Pronto.) In the area you have a LOT of stores, affordable restaurants and other views. With the Keisei Ueno line you can go directly to Narita Airport without a change and from Ueno station you have access to the JR East trains as well as the Ginza and Hibiya lines. Overall I can highly recommend Ueno Terminal Hotel and will go back there on my next visit.

amazing staff and service, great location

we had an excllent stay at ueno terminal hotel. the staff were all amazing; they were always polite and helpful, many of them spoke english very well, and the housekepper helped us get a bigger room on her own initiative. the location is ideal, especially for anyone taking a train to or from ueno train/metro station, and there are many restaurants, shops, and attractions within walking distance. i highly recommend this hotel.

older, small room, but central and low priced.”

price, proximity to transit, proximity to ueno park

This hotel is showing it's age, as is the ueno district. There didn't seem to be any non smoking rooms so every floor and room seems to smell of cigarette smoke. The bathroom smelled of dirty/damp cloth for most of my stay. Wifi password is changed daily, and is subjected to a pretty low bandwidth cap. I was unable to get consistent access to google maps and search the websites I needed to map all the addresses I would have liked to visit during my stay. The attached japanese restaurant is also showing some age, and the japanese breakfast left something to be desired for the price paid as it had to paid and reserved in advance and was served cold. There is a cheaper western breakfast option at the attached cafe. The hotel is a 5 minute walk from ueno station and park, and the same walk brings you to the ueno shopping arcade. Via subway you can find the restaurant/cooking supply shopping district kappabashi via tokyo metro. Via JR routes, you have access to several JR options if you have the JR rail pass Akihabara is 2 stops away, tokyo station is 4. The hotel is well priced if all you need is a bed to sleep in in the heart of tokyo. Staff is helpful, friendly and knowledgeable of the ueno area.

Nice hotel centrally located”

Location, great service and staff

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. First of all, it has a great location, just a 5minutes walk from Ueno station. The service and staff is great conform to japanese standards. The room I had was a single and was a bit small but hey that's Tokyo...The room was very clean and had free wi-fi. The price was cheap compared to other hotels of that type in Tokyo. Overall a good value hotel which is definitely worth a stay!

Cheap Stay ”

Location, Location, Location

This hotel is amazingly 2 minutes away from JR's Ueno Station. Make sure you get on the pedestrian walkway bridge and go down the stairs that are underneath the highway. This hotel is located in a quiet street and the only noise you'll deal with are noisy neighbours in the morning or evening. My room was always clean and tidy - I was more than happy with the awesome deal I received for such a convenient location.

Very good value”

- location - price/value ratio
- only stairs from the street to the lobby, no elevator or access for disabled (only 10 stairs, though) - the big sign on the hotel is only in katakana, so you need to be able to read it to find the hotel (unless you come right to the entrance and read the sign in English)

It is very conveniently located near the Keisei Ueno and JR Ueno stations. Other metro lines are not far. The staff are friendly and helpful. The room was very nice, with all the necessary facilities and a few extras! Of course, this may depend on the type of room you book (I was in a twin room and didn't see other rooms). The rooms are not very big compared to EU/USA standards, but they have everything you need. There's a small restaurant/coffee shop on the ground floor and several shops and restaurants near the hotel. It's not on the main street, so not much noise.

Central location, friendly staff”

The location is excellent, with trains and subway very close by. A lot of good-priced restaurants and shopping in the area. Quite a lot of sightseeing in general area.

The hotel is a bit older, still using keys that you leave at the reception desk when going out. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Although the area is busy, the hotel is rather quiet, sitting on one of the side streets. Only once or twice I noticed ambulances toing to the nearby hospital at night. There is a lot to do in the general area and with both the subway, JR railways and the private railroad directly to Narita it is easy to get everywhere. From Ueno it is just a short walk to Akihabara, the zoo and the park, Kappabashi kitchenware town, etc. For someone new to Tokyo I can recommend this location. You have everything close by.

great location, near metro/train, nice staffs

Hotel was near Ueno station and easy to find, about 45 min from Narita by the Express train, bravo! Near beautiful Ueno park, and many restaurants. Although room is small, but I don't mind,at least room is very clear. Free wifi you could use( but you have to change password everyday), nice staffs ever! I remember I saw I don't have electric Kettle in the room because of I am used to drink warm water, the staff gave me the electric Kettle very soon.Helpful staff very professional!!

Repeat reservation, great stay.”

Location, staff, comfor

Had a window room this time over looking a street in Ueno, not a view worth gushing about but I ended up having peace and quiet and a good sleep all four nights that I stayed even though I checked in on a Thursday. High speed wireless internet was provided as always which is great for those with iphones or their own laptops. If you don't have your own smart phone or laptop they do let you rent in-house laptops for 1000yen a night. Just note that the wireless internet password does change every day at around 12pm so you have to collect a new password every day of your stay. This hotel has a convenient and comfortable shower in each room and two convenience stores nearby - each about 2mins away where you can pick up a quick drink or snack. Ameyoko is about 5mins away where you can grab decent meals and enjoy the great atmosphere of Ueno. The hotel also has it's own restaurant/bar but I think you're better off exploring Ameyoko for 'better' food and definitely better dining atmosphere. A very much recommended hotel. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Nice quiet hotel”

Good location and helpful staff

Stayed 5 days in Oct 2010. The hotel is about 3 blocks away from the Ueno Ginza Line Metro Station exit. The location is quiet and there are several Izakaya within 2-3 blocks you can visit to have a drink at the end of the day. The rooms are small, but about normal for what Ive seen at this price range in Tokyo. The coffee shop on the first floor is quite good. The prices for laundry service seemed very expensive. The staff was very helpful and always friendly.

Excellent Tokyo hotel.”

Close to the public transport-system.

as this hotel was located near the ueno station, getting to it and around the city from it was easy. located on a smaller street, finding it could prove somewhat tricky for some, but the walk was a short one. seems like all hotels in japan have great staff..this one was no exception. room was clean and had all the basic amenities, which made for a comfortable stay. free internet in the lobby is always a plus, when you're traveling without a computer! would be glad to stay in this hotel again.

Helpful staff, clean and comfortable rooms, great location

The staff were extremely helpful, and strove to assist us as much as possible. They can converse in English so that made our requests easier to put across, and our stay more comfortable. The staff always greets you with a smile The room we got was clean and comfortable, with all the things we could need. The location of the hotel is very close to JR Ueno line, and is surrounded by a lot of eateries so if you're feeling a bit hungry but too tired to go somewhere far, you don't have to! I think this hotel deserves more stars.

Close to JR station”

Location, customer service, convenience

The hotel is pretty close to Ueno JR station. If you get the Asakusa exit, turn slightly to the left and cross the big avenue. If you cross another ave again to reach the other side of the street, you're going to pass a small street on your right, and will turn right in the second street. Then keep going straight and you'll see the hotel on your right. If the explanation is confusing, just turn right when you see the "doutor" coffee shop (which by the way was my choice for breakfast: yummy sandwich with coffee for 390 yen). The hotel itself was ok. Because it's a smoking hotel, the hallway smelled a bit but my room was fine. The bathroom smelled funny as well, especially after I took a shower, which was quickly solved by closing the door, lol. The room was tiny and didn't have a place to put the luggage besides the chair. There's a small refrigerator, and the front desk is 24h, which is pretty good. The front desk agents were pretty nice and it's just a 5 minute walk from JR station. There is wifi in the room and a restaurant next door for breakfast and/or dinner, but I didn't go there so I won't be able to comment on it. There are a lot of bars, restaurants and convenience stores around, so you'll have plenty of options regarding food. So far, I'd recommend this hotel!

Ueno Terminal Hotel”

Affordable and within decent walking distance from JR Ueno Station.
No cable internet connection in room. Free wireless has weak signal in room

Overall, I had quite a decent stay at Ueno Terminal Hotel. The bathroom was a little small, but pretty standard for most Japanese hotels. The twin room was spacious enough. The area surrounding Ueno station has good dining selection and a good place for shopping. The stations itself has decent dining and selection, a Starbucks even.

Great location! More than a 2-star hotel!”

Location, Location, Location!

Less than 5 minutes walk to Ueno station which can transit directly to Narita airport with plenty of shops and restaurants. Elevator less than 1 minute from hotel which can reach the underground to cross the road. Yet, hotel staff is not as friendly as what you would be expected in any hotel in Japan. Room is old but very clean and considered as very good size in city of Tokyo (almost a double of other hotels that we stayed in Tokyo in the past) Overall, we enjoyed our stay at Ueno Terminal.

Convenient”

Location, Friendly, Clean

My stay was pleasant and the hotel fitted my requirements as I needed somewhere clean, budget and close to the trains. + points: The hotel is 3 mins from the Tokyo Metro, 5 mins from the JR Ueno station and about 10 from the Keisei line. The room and bath are clean though small; bed comfort is average. Hotel reception staff are friendly and can speak English. - points: Despite the room being a non-smoking room, the strong smoke smell from the corridor drafted in. It would be best to request for a room with a ventilator AND non-smoking. Hotel wifi password changes every day.
