Mitsui Garden Hotel Ueno
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"In Ueno, there aren't many decent star rated hotels, this is one of the rare few. From Keisei skyline station (assuming you arrive at Narita airport), it's only a 10 minute walk, or a very short taxi ride (no more than 600 yen, or less). Hotel has room at decent size (for Japan), very clean, very helpful staffs at check in. Bed is comfortable with great pillow, room temperature can be adjusted by yourself. So it won't be to warm in winter like some other hotels in Japan with central air conditioning. Best thing is the location. Being in Ueno, you are in a very interesting part of Tokyo, with lots of choices for good food and some of the best bargain shopping in Tokyo. The nearby Ueno park is a great destination in itself for a full day of exploring, cheery blossom viewing, zoo with panda, art gallery, opera house, museums, several different temples to to boost. Ueno JR station is a great hub to explore the rest of Tokyo, metro train to nearby Akakusa. JR train to Tokyo for the bullet train etc. Going to and from the airport could not be easier, a straight 38 minute train ride only! Mistui garden is truly an ideal place to stay when in Tokyo for many reasons."

Hotel Wing International Select Ueno-Okachimachi
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"The hotel is quite near Keisei-Ueno station and there is a buzzling market nearby too. It is super convenient to get around, Ueno Park is just next to Keisei-Ueno. The room is typically small but it has almost everything you need. We loved the full set of vanity items and toiletries, we didnt even have to open our own. The room is also very new and beautifully decorated in elegant white and pink. Given the price that we paid, we were very satisfied and we will definitely come back to this hotel whenever we go to Tokyo."

LANDABOUT TOKYO
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"Its 20min walk to the famous Asakusa, 20min walk to ueno, 15min walk to nippori. Seems far, but actually its a gem. Not too near all those tourist places makes it a nice place to stay. Many food shop around. No worries about cheap and delicious food. Not touristy. 20min walk in tokyo is nothing in a beautiful weather. "

APA Hotel Keisei Ueno-Ekimae
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"I would definitely recommend the APA Hotel Keisei Ueno-Ekimae to any traveler and I would stay there again. My single, non-smoking room was very small. However, it will not deter me from staying there again. The location is great! It is very convenient to travel to and from the Narita Airport via the Keisei Skyliner, The hotel was literally starring me in the face when I exited the back entrance of the Keisei Ueno station upon my arrival. This was excellent as I arrived at the hotel at night. Also, the JR station, with access to the Yamanote and other subway lines was extremely close, about a 3- 5 minute walk. It took no time (about 10- 15 minutes) to get to other areas of Tokyo for more sightseeing and fun. The Ueno Park, Ueno Zoo, many museums, shops, and restaurants are "right there." My room was clean and the bed felt good and soft (as I like it). The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, answered all of my questions, and were always smiling. The buffet breakfast and the meals at the restaurant that is attached to the hotel on the first floor is good as well. "

NOHGA HOTEL UENO TOKYO

"Very nice new hotel in Ueno. Rooms are small but well designed. Breakfast is overpriced - go next door to Pronto. Laundry room provides an iron but needs a place to hang clothes. Beds are very firm, which some may find uncomfortable. "

APA Hotel Ueno Ekikita
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"We chose this hotel because it's near the Ueno Station (8 min. walk) and Keisei Line/Sky Liner (12 min. walk) and the price was reasonable in spite of the date when we booked it. We had a smooth and fast transactions when we checked-in and checked-out. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. There's no time that we didn't see them not smiling. Our room is always clean and they really won't disturbed you until you remove or they didn't see the "do not disturb" sign on your door. There are convenient stores and vendo machines near the hotel. There's also a vendo machine, ice rack and microwave available in hotel's lobby and an iron board on each floor, near the elevator. The only thing the negative that I can say or think of is the size of the room. It's a small room (but I guess that's a normal in a Japanese hotels) so if you have big luggage, you'll have a problem with the space. But over-all, my friends and I had a great stay at APA Hotel Ueno-Ekimae. :) "

Hotel Sardonyx Ueno
Ueno,Ueno - View on map
"Pro: Sardonyx Ueno Hotel is accessible location near the Ueno Station either JR and the metro train. It is, especially, closed by the Ameyoko market; only few steps to walk then you can enjoy shopping life there every night. Hotel’s staffs are supportive. If you arrived by the morning flight, don’t worry any longer!! Staying here, you could leave your luggage then follow to your plan right away. Moreover, if booked in advance, the room price would be very reasonable inclusive of breakfast. The room is new and clean. Con: Breakfast is quite basic only hotdog, pancake and bread for your selection. It’d rather than the appetizer than breakfast. The room is quite narrow; 2 big luggages are containable but a little uncomfortable."

More about Ueno

Ueno / Asakusa / Akihabara is a large district in central Tokyo that has been important since feudal times. Tourists who book accommodation in Ueno or Asakusa usually value cultural and historic attractions, while those booking hotels in Asakusa are usually here to get involved with Tokyo’s booming manga culture.

Both Asakusa and Ueno were busy hubs during the Edo Period, and they offer a mix of historic sites, traditional markets and modern infrastructure. One of the most popular places to get out and enjoy the district is Ameyoko market street (near Okachimachi metro station), with its affordable food and knock-off designer fashions. Other tributes to feudal Japan include the Edo Tokyo Museum and Sumo Stadium, where competitions are still regularly staged.

Nearby Akihabara district is a magnet for high-tech shoppers. This is where to buy everything form the latest gadgets to newly released manga and anime. This district continues to revamp itself as international interest in Japanese anime increases. The real show is on Sundays when the Cyuo Douri avenue is closed to vehicles and gets flooded by anime fans wearing costumes of their favorite characters. Hotels in Akihabara capitalize on the manga craze with themed rooms and targeted publicity.

One of the most important retail centers in the area is Sun Street Kameido. This complex is stacked with shops and restaurants, but it also has a community performance stage that brings the locals out for school shows and other events. Asakusa Rox is also a popular place to shop, close to Asakusa metro station and Sensoji Temple.

Hotels in Ueno / Asakusa / Akihabara district are well-connected to the rest of Tokyo thanks to JR rail hubs at Tabata, Nishi Nippori and Uguisudani station. Most of the main commercial areas are within walking distance of local metro stations, so visitors will find using public transportation easy.
