Huge and luxurious for one traveler. I loved it!
I was traveling alone and found the room at a great discount at the last minutes. I didn't see any bugs or reptiles in my bedroom that was wonderful! (Tip: You better carry the moschito repellent all the time.) Having to take a ride of a scooter or a taxi to reach somewhere every time wasn't very convenient, but not too bad. I never took the Villa's free shuttle, which was available only three times in a day to the central Ubud, because I was a busy traveler. Umae Villa offers the taxi ride at IDR50,000. The Villa was quiet, and I was able to have a good night sleep each night. I had the same breakfast on all four mornings and knew the taste was different each time: Hit or miss. I believe the cook was a regular staff, not a chef. There is a kitchen downstairs with ranges, a refrigerator, and a sink. However, no plate, glassware, pot, pan, or utencils were supplied. Yikes! I didn't cook at all because there were so many restaurants outside available at reasonable price anyways. Watch out at Coco Market nearby. Their pricing is like somewhere in the US. Dining outside would be easy and less expensive. The amenities the Villa provides were inconsistent. You may have to request several things. The towels were not there after the bed make, one used glass was taken away and another one was never supplied back, etc. One more small tip if you stay here. There is no house phone in the room. You need to walk to lobby and make the requests that was frustrating. The lighting was a bit poor, especially in the bathroom, that must be improved. I couldn't see my face in the mirror well. Also, the shower stall floor was slippery when it got wet, so, please be careful. Overall, however, my stay was satisfying.

Small villa complex in the heart but not in the heart of Ubud
I have stayed here before and no other villa beats this for value for money. Only I think about 4 villas all with private pool. Is super close to the Yoga Barn, staff very helpful. Feels like home

Great location, helpful staff but disappointing experience
Umae is in a great location, five mins walk to yoga barn and close to some great restaurants. We got a good deal with Agoda so for the price we really couldn't complain, however there were so many odd things about our stay here, which I can only assume comes down to poor management. The staff were all so friendly and helpful but the hotel itself needs to review its processes and procedures and fine tune some of the smaller details as things were very inconsistent. We stayed for six nights and first we were put into a room different than the one we booked, and then moved again after two nights. The second room was much nicer but both had the same problems. For example, both had full kitchens but absolutely no cooking equipment, bowls or cutlery, one had a kettle but no coffee/tea making facilities or cups. Our room was never cleaned until we asked for it to be, and when it was the towels were taken away but not replaced, and we never saw any pool towels. Turn-down was strange in that some nights it would happen and others it wouldn't, or it would just be half done. TV only had local balinese channels but there is a DVD player, although the only DVDs the hotel has are a strange assortment of bootleg copies left behind by other guests. The breakfasts were also disappointing and far too salty. If you're just looking for a comfortable, well priced place to stay in a good location, Umae is worth it if you have zero expectations and accept its shortcomings, but if you're looking for an impressive hotel experience you're better off elsewhere.

Convenient and Central
As we walk nearly everywhere, the villas were very convenient as they are so central to Ubud. The staff were lovely but there can be some confusion due to English not being well understood by all staff. Not a big issue. We stayed in one of the newer two story villas and while they were clean, the bed was comfortable and the A/C was great, they lacked any aesthetic appeal and did not have the 'feel' of Balinese villa for me. But this is a personal preference. The kitchen did not have a single glass or utensil but the staff did supply drinking glasses on request. I think some basic crockery and cutlery should be provided standard in all the kitchens. The villas were well priced. I would stay again but next visit I would book in one of the single level villas.

Great resort
Our stay was amazing. Umae villa is close to restaurants, the yoga barn, monkey Forest and monkey forest road. The staff were also very welcoming and attentive. We also found an amazing massage spa called Samsara (off Monkey Forest Rd) which I highly recommend. $7 an hour. Amazing!!!!!

One amazing hotel experience.
The staff are very warm, you will be treated as a true old friend. On the same road with Bekbek Bengil-Dirty Duck Diner, about 10 min by walk. Delicious breakfast was provided. The private pool is quit clean and exquisite. I will select it again when going to Ubud next time.
