La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham New York City Central Park
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"I searched and searched for hours for a hotel WITH a private bathroom less than $200 bucks. Central Park West seemed awesome, with close proximity to subway, central park, and restaurants. The first room we could not stand. Very bad energy. View of an apartment with naked kids running around. No room for our luggage if we wanted to walk around the bed. AND REEKED Of AJAX! We kindly asked to switch and we got a much better tiny room on the third floor overlooking the street. The bathroom was much nicer with a sliding door and more space. There were some shelves and a small closet. Still hard to move around without crawling over stuff. Worst of all I got tore up with bites. The worst I've ever had. I won't stay here again, but I love the location."

Night Hotel Broadway

"the hotel is situated in a nice part of the upper west side. it's very convenient and accessible. just beside it is a grocery and the subway is nearby. the hotel lobby is really spacious and has free wifi. the only concern is that the hotel is kind of old and some parts are under renovation. all this aside, this hotel is a good place to sleep in and relax. there's even a fitness center downstairs. good value for money."

Central Park West Hostel
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"(+) - Great location. It is near the metro station, bus stop, convenience store (CVS), and bank. - The room is clean and the air conditioner is cool. - The beds are ok. We had a good night sleep. - There is drinking water in the kitchen. We can cook our food there or make tea. - The area is ok. It’s pretty quiet at night so my little one can sleep well. (-) The receptionist was very late. We arrived at 3pm for check-in and the receptionist was not there. We were very tired and wanted to rest but have to waiting until around 6pm. Luckily the room was ready and clean when we checked-in."

West Side YMCA Hostel
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"The West Side YMCA was exactly what I needed during my NYC visit! My single room was small but pleasant. It included a desk and chair, wifi, a comfortable bed, a window, a closet, an air conditioner/fan unit, and a small flatscreen TV. Housekeeping changed the sheets daily and provided a fresh towel every day or every other day. The bathrooms down the hall were generally quite clean, with three toilet stalls, three working faucets (and one that didn't work), and three shower stalls. Guests are invited to attend group exercise classes and use the swimming pool during open swim times (swim cap required), though I didn't have a chance to take advantage of these offerings. The location is stellar--within a short walk of Lincoln Center, the Upper West Side, Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, a variety of restaurants, Midtown, and the various subways stopping at 59th Street-Columbus Circle. My only complaint is that only one shower stall had a decent shower head; the other two were like taking a shower using a fire hose: lots of pressure, but stinging!"

Hostelling International New York
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"No hot water in showers or water pressure in showers was very aggravating for being on upper west side in USA (of all places you would expect HOT water and water pressure).. outlets near bed in the bedrooms did not work either. Those were the only cons. All else was terrific. Def would stay again! "

Belnord Hotel
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"The Belnord is conveniently located close to the ABCD lines and even closer to the 123. Despite being just a couple of blocks from Central Park, the hotel is very quiet at night. This was a great location for a 4-day stay in the city, with quick access to my family uptown and our off-Broadway show downtown. I'd definitely recommend the hotel to anyone planning a short trip in Manhattan who doesn't plan to stay in the very small (by American standards) hotel room for more than a couple of hours each day."

Arthouse Hotel
Upper West Side,Upper West Side - View on map
"150 bucks to stay in the Upper West Side, I cannot complain. I love the location - Central Park just a couple of blocks east, two short blocks to the 1 train, great bar that makes a knockout gin and tonic, really cosy entranceway, and the attached restaurant makes a thoroughly hooverable eggs Benedict. Staff, I found, were really helpful and friendly. My only gripe is that the rooms do not match the impact of the entranceway and looked a little worn and cheap. But, the bed, a genuine king, was really comfortable, and this Englishman was able top make himself a proper cup of tea with the included amenities. Next time I am in NYC I almost certainly will stay here. "

More about Upper West Side

As well as including two of the city's best-known markets (Zabar's and Fairway), the Upper West Side is home to an Ivy League university (Columbia University) and one of Manhattan’s major museums (the American Museum of Natural History). Situated on 79th St and Central Park West, the museum’s extensive collection takes a full day to enjoy in its entirety.

Running from 62nd Street to 66th Street, The Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts contains the Metropolitan Opera; the New York State Theater, home of the New York City Opera and Ballet; Avery Fisher Hall, the home of the New York Philharmonic; the Juilliard School; and the New York Public Library's Library for the Performing Arts.

The neighborhood, especially the Morningside Heights area, is known for its idiosyncratic bookstores and legendary cafés. The area has a dazzlingly diverse range of eateries, from taco stands to restaurants serving everything from Peruvian to Ethiopian cuisine. The Upper West Side includes one of Manhattan’s finest parks, Riverside Park, which becomes the venue for al fresco movies and live music in the summertime.

Perhaps surprisingly for its location, the Upper West Side has a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets, with the YMCA West Side Hotel sharing its Central Park West neighborhood with several luxurious hotels. The area is well-serviced by bus routes, and walking or cycling to and from downtown is very pleasant, especially when going through Central Park or heading north from the Theater District.
