Simple but beautiful”
If you are alone and on business in Downtown Manhattan and looking for a simple place to stay, the Vanderbilt YMCA Hostel is one of the more centrally located accommodations you can find. The use of their fully equipped gym and swimming pool comes in free with your booking. The rooms are simple but the price for each stay is incomparable with other similar places in New York.

Convenient, efficient, great location!”
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend YMCA Vanderbilt to any of my budget-conscious friends who want to experience NYC without breaking the bank. I arrived at around 7 am & was unable to check in immediately, but the hotel let me store my bags free. They even let me have a quick shower & change of clothes, which felt like heaven. My room was small but comfortable, with a TV, fridge, a/c, heater, desk, and sufficient space for storage. I was booked very near the restroom & never had to wait to get a shower stall. The hotel's on E 47th St, walking distance from iconic NY locations such as 5th Ave, Empire State Building, Chrysler Building, the Waldorf, & Grand Central Terminal. Subways are on 53rd & Lex or Grand Central. If I didn't feel like walking, I used my unlimited weekly MetroCard to take the bus, which conveniently stopped every few blocks but took a bit longer. For the price, the hotel was perfectly located & I felt very safe because of their round-the-clock security. My only regret was not being able to try the facilities, but I'm not really sure if guests can use them. Still, the YMCA brand gave me a lot of confidence in booking the hotel.

great location”
well as new york as got more expensive for the single traveller, this is a great option, but the price does goe up and down, location is the greatest assett 47th ten mins from grand central station and 15 from times square and just around the corner from the United Nations with plenty of food outlets 24 hour drug stores and local bars its always felt safe and well lit up. from newark airport get the newark express stops on 41st then walk down. from jfk most companys will drop you off near vanderbilt, one way streets in operation 24 hour operation security and some one on the desk till midnight let them know your arrival time rooms are small but comfortablebut they have got rid of the coat hooksand you do have a tv in your room and fridge heating in winter is very hot showers are on each floor there are some private shower rooms toilets are in washroom could be next improvement they also have 2 floors of semi private ropoms and washrooms you pay more with kitchen area and lounge d

Midtown hostel”
I stayed here in September 2017 - I had booked a single room The online photos are totally representative of what you get. Room was fairly small but the bed was comfy and you get a TV, small fridge and desk. It's NYC so who spends lots of time in their room? Perfectly adequate and cleaned everyday unless you advise otherwise. Location is great Midtown Short walk to fantastic subway system so you can get around easily (I suggest getting an unlimited 7day Metro ticket)) The staff were efficient and friendly at the Vanderbilt YMCA I would definitely stay here again

Great value!”
Great value for New York City and so centrally located! Left us money to spend on the things we really wanted to do (Broadway shows!). Very plain vanilla, like a college dorm room with a shared floor bathroom, but that was all we needed. The staff was friendly and helpful. And if you wanted to meet other young international travelers, this is the place. It is truly fun to stay at the YMCA!

Small room in convenient location”
I stayed in YMCA Vanderbilt for 5 nights this early December. I was on a business trip in Chicago, but I managed to visit New York during my trip. It took me around 45 minutes from the JFK airport, I used shared van service (it's cheap!) and the driver dropped me first than any other passengers because the hotel is located in Midtown Manhattan. It's quite convenient to walk everywhere, you can find food, shopping areas on fifth avenue, and even walk to Rockefeller Center and Times Square. Because the weather on December is not very friendly, I must use layers to walk around. However, inside the hotel was really warm because their heating system is quite good. Inside the room, shared shower room and washroom, gym, swimming pool area, they use heater so that we always feel warm. The room is quite small for me, but they have TV, refrigerator, and small desk. At least you can sleep quite comfortably and put 2 big luggage in the room. What I find excellent about this hotel is the free access to the gym and the swimming pool. The staff is also friendly and helpful. We could use free wifi in the reception area and guest lounge, they also have kitchen and self-laundry. Unfortunately we can't get private shower and wifi connection in the room. For the price, it's quite ok because the hotel around Manhattan is really expensive. Overall my stay was very interesting, I love New York!

Accessible and Affordable ”
I had a great time staying in Vanderbilt YMCA Hotel. Very accessible to drugstore, restaurants and some of the tourist destinations of NYC. The hotel will provide you the basic necessities and yet you will feel comfortable. The best thing about this hotel is the access that you have to the facilities like gym, sauna and pool. Will definitely go back here.

Good but Noisy”
Generally, Vanderbilt YMCA is a good choice for me. I'll still consider it next time. However, it seemed that the bunk beds of the room next to me were broken. The beds made very loud noise at night when they wanted to put down the upper bed to sleep. The sound was terribly loud and unpleasant. Like thunder. And the heater made strange sound at midnight, too. These noises woke me up several times at night.

YMCA is a high standard hostel with an international atmosphere ”
The hostel is well equipped as you’ve got everything you need. Gym is great, also the laundry room and the kitchen. House keeping does it’s work well, as the rooms are very clean, and so the showers are. You can actually feel the cosmopolitan city by seeing all the guests that attend the YMCA! I would recommend this place, it is worth the money. Location is great; neighborhood is awesome.

Very good as always. ”
I like Vanderbilt YMCA because of the location and gym amenities. I don’t like the bed bugs. They need to disinfect their beds.

Comfortable but basic”
The best part about it was the mattresses we had in out room, they were really comfortable, great after a long day of sightseeing/shopping we had no trouble sleeping! The bedrooms were basic, but had AC, a chest of drawers, fridge, TV and a bunk bed. The bed didn't have a ladder so you had to climb up using the footboard slats and a chair.... The wash rooms were very basic, but there was hot water and everything you need. For us the best bit was the location and the price. The location was great for us as we mainly visited Manhattan, the YMCA in midtown 47th St 3rd Avenue, it was about a 20 minute walk over to 8th avenue for time square/ broadway and about 5-10 minutes walk to grand central station, 15 mins up to central park. We actually ended up walking most places, even down to Wall Street, but we did get the subway back! The most annoying thing about walking is having to cross the street every block!! Can add a lot of time onto a journey.

Manage your expectations”
This is a hostel, not a hotel. Compared to a hotel, this sucks. But as a hostel - this is the best one I've ever been. Everything is within walking distance. Or a subway ride away, with the magnificent Grand Terminal so close to it. Each floor have DIFFERENT facilities. I strongly suggest you take your time to explore each floor. For example ; the shower room in my floor (9) is open / only covered by a curtain from the public, but I found closed shower rooms on 6th floor. Also manage your time carefully. Example: I shower every day around 6 am. I was usually the only one. No queue at all. My only complain is that the laundry room is only open from 7 am until 9 pm. I usually returned way past 9 pm, and by 7 am is already busy for going to work soon. I have no idea why the opening time limit, other places usually have 24/7 laundry facility. But otherwise everything is excellent. The staffs are friendly and genuinely tried to be helpful. Much appreciated.

Perfect for low budget vacations”
This nice hostel is located very close (5-10 minutes of walking) to the subway stations Grand Central and Lexingston/53st and very close to major tourist attractions of NY. The staff is very friendly and the hostel is very safe as security staff controls who gets into the hostel. The rooms are small but clean (don't expect hotel level housekeeping as you don't pay for that) the restrooms are very clean at all times of the day ( there were 7 in my floor that only people from our floor can use so there was always a restroom available).

Much better than expected!”
I was really sceptical of staying here after reading so many bad reviews but I thought this place was great. We only used it for sleeping & I found it quieter than the other 2 hostels in San Fran & Boston that I had just stayed at. The location is great - about 1.3km from Times Square. There’s food everywhere around the block. The rooms are the only let down - super tiny & bunk bed has no space between the lower & top bunk - had to roll in! Ha ha. You get private shared bathrooms which is great too. I would definitely stay here again if we came back to NY.

Very satisfied”
I have stayed at the Vanderbilt on a few occasions and each time I am taken with the extremely pleasant staff. Check-in, security, phone contacts - all extremely agreeable and nice. Great location, clean comfortable room.

convenient and inexpensive”
If you are looking for an inexpensive (for midtown Manhattan), secure, and clean place to stay, this is it. Single room is very small but quite adequate. Shared bathrooms and showers are immaculate. You also have access to the recreation center and pool. Only complaint is a very noisy heating system with very loud clanking pipes that awoke me almost hourly. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Lots of reasonable options for eating nearby.

Great Location but small rooms”
I am very happy to choose YMCA as my hotel. By the way, this was my first time to US and impressed with the hotel location and overall. I am sure to recommend this YMCA hotel to all my friends who plan to travel to NYC

Clean room and nice location!”
Great location especially to the City University of New York, Baruch College! I stayed a few nights for the registration in August. The hotel was definitely nice compared to the price.
