A beautiful view and a colourful labyrinth for the children”
We stayed here with our two girls of 5y and 7m and especially our 5 year old had a wonderful time exploring the paths and the communal areas. The view is beautiful but with the children it was quite far to go to the Beach because the only public Road is in the middle of Lamai town. On the other hand it was a quiet part of Lamai. The hotel is a bit worn down but still charming and the food was good though a bit expensive. We were a bit bothered at breakfast because they didn’t enforce their no smoking policy but there were enough space that this was minemal.
Nice and Cozy”
Hotel is in a very nice location and has a fantastic view of Lamai Beach. Food is good and I would recommend to eat here at night for a quiet relaxing night. The rooms are traditional and cozy but only thing is the mattress is very old and uncomfortable. Also shower did not work properly but was fixed and the bath tub was very old and could not be used. Overall I do recommend to have a stay here when coming to Koh Samui, staff is very very friendly and are always ready when you need help. I really enjoyed my stay here as it was relaxing.
My stay here was wonderful my only issue was that i was not staying longer!!! A beautiful, chilled out location with a view over looking the bay. Such kind and welcoming staff, a real hidden gem for my last night relaxing in thailand. I would love to go back and spend more time enjoying the relaxing setting and definitely get a massage next time.
If you want to spend some time in a beautiful, relaxing place, this is where you want to go. It's set at the top of a hill at the end of the main street in Lamai, and it feels like you are in the middle of a rain forest up there. Incredible landscaping, and really nice staff.
One of the best hotels ever”
It was just an awesome stay with a beautiful villa in a perfect environment, if we come back to Samui than 100% in this beautiful hotel with an always friendly and helpful staff, this is the place for a private holiday, you can enjoy to the full, thank you Varinda for that relaxing time
Truly Amazing place.”
We love Varinda Garden, we have returned from our second year here. I find the place truly inspiring, it's immerse in a green area on a hill which overlooks Lamai. I would describe it as a slice of bohemian Thai paradise. The view from the pool/bar/restaurant is simply breathtaking. The staff and owners take great care of the place. The gardens around the bungalows are immaculate and the room decorated in a true thai style. IF you decide to visit koh samui and live an authentic thai experience, then this is for you. Another reason why I chose this resort is because I don't like the idea of travelling and ending up in a hotel which have been westernized to the limit so that the customer "feels like he's back at home". I don't want to feel like I am at home! Otherwise, what's the purpose of travelling??! I want to be able to live a genuine and honest experience of the country I am visiting ! My 12 and 8 year old daughters love this place and it's now their little oasis of paradise.
We found this little gem two years ago when we just spent the afternoon there, this time we decided to stay our last night in samui there. Rooms were very spacious and comfortable, would highly recommend this resort, it's quirkiness is amazing.
Colourful, original place with a great view and pool. ”
We had a great stay at Varinda Gardens. It is colourfully and uniquely decorated with lots of places to explore within the resort. Our 4 year olds loved the pool and exploring the various chair swings, slide and playing with the dogs. I enjoyed reading the various quotes and words written around the place, a great breakfast which was a mix of Western and Thai, helpful friendly staff and a fabulous view from our bungalow.
My wife and I spent some time travelling Thailand on a couple of occasions around 10 years ago, but this was our first time with our 2 children 3 and 5, and also our first time in Koh Samui. Koh Samui has become our favourite Island and Varinda is now my favourite hotel in the world. The gardens are magical, the food is delicious, the views are breathtaking and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. The whole place oozes charisma and we can't wait to go back again next year. We stayed at a few hotels during our stay including a couple of fairly 'luxurious' places over in Bohput, but nothing compared to the charming atmosphere of Varinda. Thanks Varinda See you next year!
Lovely unique property with great staff”
Pros: staff were great, lovely host. Good breakfast. Pool area is great the kids loved it. Nice and clean basic property good for families. Close to town a short walk to restaurants and shops and beach. Easy to hire scooters from reception per day :-) Cons: bar and food prices a bit steep compared to town, happy hour would be a good addition by the pool :-) would have spent more time at pool and hotel if food/drink prices were a bit more similar. Same with massage prices. But these are easily found in town, the resort is very quirky and obviously a much loved family property. Host and staff were lovely :-)
Probably the best hotel we've ever booked”
A friend of mine recommended the Varinda Garden Resort and boy, I must say it was the best travel tip ever! Warning, if you are into luxury asepticized soulless hotels, you might want to skip this one. But if you are looking for a colourful, full of charms, cosy, children friendly place on Ko Samui, this is the one! Every bungalow seems to have it's own atmosphere. Perched ten minutes away from the beach, the hotel has got a fantastic view, which you can enjoy both from the swimming pool and from the dining room. I understand this is a family-own business and the staff was adorable. In short : a fantastic experience!
Nice and relaxed place”
Positive are the nice atmosphere, the wonderful view from the pool area, and the breakfast. It is away from the bustle, which is nice. Points for improvement are the lighting of the rooms, the bathroom. The Wifi is complicated and expensive, not free as promised, only in the small reception area, which is hot and full of mosquitoes. This needs improvement
A Good experience”
It was a traditional decorated Resort with a Cultural look all around. Full of greenery & very supportive staff. A good pool for Children & Sea nearby. A good Experience at the Resort. Breakfast was also Good...
Excellent place for vacations in Lamai”
We spent two weeks in Varinda this summer, it was marvellous time. The hotel is a real tropical garden with Thai style houses, very comfortable, quiet and peaceful. Every one here is smiling and helping The swimming pool and the view point on Lamai bay are awesome ! Good food too, need more diversity for breakfast Close to city center but not in the noise and stressof the main street ... close to the best beaches !
Nice, colourful resort”
Friendly, helpful staff - they were really great. The jungle environment provides lots of privacy. View from the restaurant and pool is one of the best in Lamai as it's at the top of the hill. It's quick to get into town/beach but it's a steep hill/path. The resort has lots of character and a lovely, chilled vibe.
Koh Samui, Lamai”
Our stay was good though the room, #24 was too close to the main road and noisy. It would be better with wifi in every room. The views from the dining and pool areas are spectacular. They charge too much for a taxi to the airport, but hopefully the hotel doesn't get a kickback. We paid 600 baht to the airport, but only 400 from Nathon to Varinda, which is much further.
Nice gardens a bungalows, Beach is a walk.”
I enjoyed the Varinda Resort, it had a great Deluxe Bungalow, nicely, if overly, decorated, nice porch for relaxing/smoking. The Jungle garden added to the privacy. It is on a hill on the south side of Lamai, the pool and restaurant overlooked the ocean. Which also means it's a fair trek to the beach, down the hill on a path. We However rented a motorbike from a friend (Be careful who you rent from, and be careful, the rules are different in Thailand). We like to explore the island. The entrance to the hotel is on the Island Ring road which is very busy. The breakfast is nothing special, but the view is great from the restaurant.
A great vacation at a special and colorful hotel”
We really enjoyed our one week stay in this hotel/resort. It is really unique and has a very special atmosphere which makes you feel like Robinson. We all enjoyed exploring the different areas of the resort, taking photos and knowing we could rely on the friendly support from the staff. We stumbled over one previous review, who complained about the security features. After being there we would like to sharpen that from our perspective. The hotel is well maintained and in good condition. However, having a little bit of adventure comes at a price - we would also not recommend for families with younger children if you would like them to explore without constant supervision. But what is a drawback there was the special piece for our kids...
good but not superb”
we went to samui to celebrate new year, so the room prices were high. at least during peak season i wouldn't consider the hotel best value for money. the rooms are nice, spacious and well maintained... so is the garden. and it's a quite and tranquil place (depending on the other guests of course), great for relaxing, reading some books or drinking cocktails at the pool. the same time, a lot of construction and maintenance was going on, which didn't cause much noise but wasn't a pleasure to watch either. construction and maintenance material was all over the place. the free internet is limited to the reception and pool zones. in the rooms one has to pay and it's not exactly cheap.
Fun, quirky, comfortable...”
Our stay was wonderful. The staff was very friendly and played with our kids. The room was very spacious and comfortable. The sheets and blankets smelled freshly washed and wonderful although, the beds were a little hard for our liking but most beds in hotels in Thailand are like that. There was a very large porch/balcony with a large table that the kids enjoyed sitting at to look at their shells. The breakfast was just okay but their lunch/dinner menu was great. They have lots of choices and they were all delicious. There are dogs onsite that are very friendly and loving. There are really cool and funny things to look at everywhere. The only thing we really didn't like was that the walk to the beach was very challenging with small children. There were lots of stairs and narrow pathways on the 15 minute walk.
