The Pratunam and Siam district is at the center of modern Bangkok, and visitors are sure to spend plenty of time here whether visiting on holiday or business. Luxurious five-star hotels in Siam district are joined by massive shopping centers and entertainment complexes.
Siam district is best known for shopping. Siam Paragon is an enormous up-market shopping complex at the heart of the district. It’s joined by Siam Square and other shopping and entertainment centers including Central World, MBK and Central Chidlom. Several Skytrain (BTS) stations serve the area, so it’s easy getting from shopping centers to hotels in Pratunam and Siam district.
Pratunam itself is an enormous clothing market. It’s situated along the BTS Sukhumvit line at Ratchathewi BTS station close to a few major hotels and shopping malls. Shoppers find everything from wholesale textiles and designer knock-offs to fine silks and handmade fashions.
Away from the shopping streets, Jim Thompson’s house is one of the most popular sites in the area for tourists. This American was a former military intelligence officer who revived the Thai silk industry in the 1950s. Boutiques in Pratunam and Siam still carry his brand. Victory Monument is further on to the north near King Power Complex and Centre One shopping centers.
Getting to and from hotels in Pratunam and Siam is simple thanks to the BTS Sukhumvit line. Ploenchit, Chidlom, Siam and National Stadium stations all provide access to the area. Most of the accommodation is in the immediate shopping district or a few blocks to the north. A major minibus terminal is located at National Stadium, linking the capital to Hua Hin and elsewhere.
