Quaint boutique hotel in perfect location”

Great location near the gate to the old city, friendly staff, lots of character

After a lot of research & reading reports on trip advisor I booked this hotel as we wanted somewhere with character, at a reasonable price & good standard. Vieng Mantra ticks all of the boxes. It is absolutely delightful & everything I expected. Our plane was delayed by 3 hrs but the hotel driver was waiting for us and promptly delivered us to the hotel. Don't be put off when you arrive in a small back lane at the hotel, once you step inside you find yourself in an oasis. The location is fantastic, a quiet little lane but so close to everything. Thai Phei gate is just around the corner, as is the Sunday night walking market. An 80 baht tuk tuk ride to night bazaar and to the river. I recommend wandering aimlessly through all of the little lanes around the old city, you will find cheap massage & some great little bars. It is very safe to walk at night, locals are very friendly. Just outside the entrance to the hotel are some great massage places. 200 baht for 1 hour Thai massage or aromatherapy massage. The hotel is immaculate, we are in a superior room on third floor overlooking pool. The staff are great, young and happy, eager to please. Food in the hotel restaurant is very good & cheap. Beers 40-60 baht, cocktails 100 baht. Lots of good eateries close by, so much to choose from. Our room is large enough with a lovely day bed by the window, also a day bed on the balcony ( where I am sitting with a glass of wine as I write this review). Free wifi in the room is a bonus. Overall, I highly recommend Vieng Mantra, while it is quite a new building the Lan style gives you a sense of the culture with all the modern amenities. When I return to Chang Mai I will be staying here.

Fantastic stay at the Vieng Mantra in Chiang Mai”

Beautiful pool; very friendly and helpful staff; great breatkfast; good location; very good value for money; free internet
None.

We originally booked into the Vieng Mantra for 3 nights - we were only scheduled to stay in Chiang Mai for 3 nights. As soon as we arrived into Chiang Mai, we knew we needed more than 3 days, so made changes to our airline ticket to return in 7 days. Unfortunately, the Vieng Mantra was fully booked and we were not able to stay beyond our 3 nights - we were very sad to have to leave! The owner even arranged for us and a few other couples that were in the same predicament as us to travel to their "sister" hotel, the Lanna Mantra, on the river Ping. It was beautiful as well, but a little too far away from the center of things. If you are looking for peace and quiet, then it would be a great place to stay for sure! The Vieng Mantra and the Lanna Mantra were spotlessly clean. Would highly recommend the Vieng Mantra!

Good location and big room”

Great location, clean and big rooms, very fast wifi intermet connection, sumptuous breakfast

My bf and I stayed at Vieng Mantra Hotel in mid Sep. It had been renovated recently and only one of the two buildings was in operation. At the heart of Chiang Mai old city, just door steps away from Tae Pai Gate and Sunday Walk Street, we didn't expect such a spacious room until we stepped into the door. The room is huge and clean, with LED tv and a balcony facing the swimming pool. Staff are friendly and helpful. Wifi speed is extremely fast...maybe because during our stay, there were not many guests. The location is so great that we could walk to many famous wats, restaurants and massage houses. It is just hidden in an alley along the Sunday walking street. It is definitely worth the slightly higher price than other b&b in the old city of Chiang Mai.

So glad we chose this Hotel!”

1. Location, location, location! 2. Great service. 3. Air conditioning and private bathrooms. 4. Quiet. 5. Beautiful, simple.
1. Issues with hot water. 2. No restaurant, but near so many great ones.

Loved it! My husband and I traveled in June to Chiang Mai for 4 days, 3 nights. Taxi driver from airport knew right where the Vieng Mantra was. Always a Tuk Tuk outside. Right on the Sunday Walking Street and inside the Old City East Gate. Starbucks or Black Canyon coffee right outside. The staff was friendly and at least 1 person spoke decent english. Decent breakfast. Very clean. No mosquitos. Beautiful pool. Beautiful everything since fairly new and simple and quaint. Quiet. Good internet and will print for free. Air con works well. Curtains are nice and thick so the sun won't wake you in the morning if you don't want it to. Since we were there in June and after protests, it wasn't packed so we practically had the pool to ourselves. You're so close to everything though, we were not always there much. Oh, and there is security at night. Must must must eat at the little cafe with bright yellow paint across from hotel. SOOOOO good!

Better than Expected!!”

- Layout was spacious and relaxing - Design was modern and minimal - Various Tour options were available by front desk - Friendliness and Competancy of Staff - Free use of Computer and Internet
lack of WiFi (but it's a holiday in a beautiful town...you don't really miss WiFi!)

Vieng Mantra was open and airy. Each room allows a lot of light to come in, and with the white and wood theme it really made it very relaxing. Coming to Vieng Mantra, Chiang Mai, I really felt I was on holiday. The rooms were modern, and minimal, with just the right touch of tradition. The bathrooms were so clean and spacious, and trendy! My friend and I were so thrilled we booked Vieng Mantra!! Oooh, and they have a great DVD list if you just wanted to stay in after a long day of sight-seeing. And the staff were very very helpful and polite. Vieng Matra does have it's own kitchen and though we didn't get the chance to eat there, the food smelt great!

Lovely little hotel”

The best features of the hotel are: the quality of the room- very tidy and in great shape; the pool area; free computer/internet; friendly staff

i'm really glad i stayed at vieng mantra. it was my first time in chiang mai, and once i got there, i really felt like i made the best decision. a lot of other places i came across when i was exploring the city didn't look as nice (at least from the outside) as vieng mantra. the only downfall i found was that the rooms are not noise proof. i like dead silence, and you could hear guests and staff through the walls...but it wasn't that bad. all in all, i'd definitely recommend it. for the cost, it's totally worth it. it's location next to the night market is also very convenient.

Great ambience!”

The swimming pool, hotel breakfast and hotel room

When I first arrived at Vieng Mantra, I was most taken by the lovely ambience of the hotel and the effectiveness of the hotel staff. The room I stayed in was lovely - it is spacious, quiet and clean. There was a lovely balcony that overlooks the soi, but privacy was not compromised as it was covered by a tree with flowers. Basic amenities(eg: hair dryer, a safe, TV with good channels, a minibar) were provided. The hotel fed me generous amounts of food in the morning at their quiet quaint cafe. Food was satisfactory, and ranged from local breakfast options to bacons and sausages. The breakfast staff were also helpful and effecient. The hotel is located along a narrow 'soi', close to ATM facilities, pharmacies, banks and restaurants. The soi can be a bit dark at night, so do exercise caution when walking! Upon request, they can also arrange for spa visits. The spa will send a car to pick you up and send you back to the hotel. Overall, I rate it as a great place to stay while you are in Chiang Mai.

Great location and helpful staff”

Friendly and helpful staff, clean and quaint rooms, simple but delicious breakfast, great location, lovely little deck and sitting area on each room.

I travelled with my 70 year old parents to Chiang Mai. We all loved our stay at the Vieng Mantra. Rooms and hotel were extremely clean. Yes, they could be bigger, but they're as big as needed for sure. Staff was very helpful with bookings etc; I left my wallet in a tour van and they helped me to track it down. Sadly, the weather was cool and wet so we didn't take advantage of the pool, but we looked out onto the pool area and sat on our decks everyday. Breakfast was simple but yummy. Coffee and tea were hot and the fruit was perfect and fresh. The location was amazing...down a quiet little ally. At the end of the ally was a main street - the Sunday night market street! Made shopping very easy and accessible! We loved our stay and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Clean and trendy hotel in a great location”

Location, cleanliness and quality of hotel, cool room decor

The Vieng Mantra is a little gem. The hotel is perfectly situated on a winding alley just a 1/2 block from the gate of the old city, within easy walking distance of both the day and night markets and loads of restaurants and bars. The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean, the service is wonderful, there are free books, a swimming pool, comfy lounge chairs and free internet. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone desiring a swanky oasis in Chiang Mai.

Lovely Chaing Mai”

Location, pool, room, service
a bit of painting going on while we were there (strong fumes at times), bed was rather hard

This hotel is quite a find! In the backpacker accomodations of Chiang Mai, the lovely Vieng Mantra appears. It is so conveniently located right near Thaepae Gate and the old city wats. You can even walk to Starbucks if you so desire! The hotel rooms were simply decorated and the bed was huge! The breakfast was simple but excellent and the pool was a dream after walking in the heat all day. The staff were very friendly and the hotel itself was very child friendly. There were no highchairs but we were provided with a cot. There are lots of terrific eating spots in the area and the hotel is a block away from the Sunday Walking Street Market plus we could walk to the Night Bazaar and Saturday Walking Street Market.

We really enjoyed our stay at Vieng Mantra and in Chiang Mai. The staff was friendly. The room was comfortable. We loved the day bed, bathtub, and balcony that overlooked the beautiful pool. We enjoyed the free breakfast every morning and loved the fried rice and fresh fruits and juices. The location close the city wall gate was fabulous for walking around and getting to restaurants and the Night Bazaar. The Sunday Market was on the street right outside of our hotel which made shopping great! We will stay here again when we go back!

Comfort and amazing,smily staff”

Location..close to everything in the old city, great restaurants on the street outside the hotel, very near the Night, Saturday and Sunday Markets.

The first night was. Very noisy. There is a club or cafe of some sort across the street. Our room faced the street/alley and was too loud for sleeping. The next morning, the manager, JoJoe was able to move us to a more quiet room. Ghe remainder of the stay was without incident. The staff is over the top friendly as they greet you in the lobby area. As in most hotels that serve a breakfast buffet, the food would be better served warmer. They mixed up the offerings each day at the breakfast buffet, but you could always count on fried or scrambled eggs, ham, bacon, cereal, juices, yogurt, toast and sweet breads. We loved Chiang Mai and our stay at Vieng Mantra was a large contributor to that sentiment. Highly recommended!

Amazing hotel and staff! Loved my stay.”

This hotel was a huge part in making my stay in Chiang Mai so pleasant! The staff are welcoming and helpful, providing recommendations and even setting up a last-minute airport shuttle for me. The rooms were well-maintained, the Wi-Fi was fast, and there was very little noise in the room I stayed in (facing the pool), which I very much appreciated as a light sleeper. The facilities staff always made sure I was adequately stocked on toiletries. The daily breakfast provided great variety and was absolutely delicious! Thank you Vieng Mantra! Minutes from Tha Phae Gate but quiet”

Ideal location, simple but attractive and comfortable, balcony overlooking the pool

The Vieng Mantra Hotel is a little way down one of the lanes that wind their way through the old city but close to the Tha Phae Gate. The Sunday market and good restaurants are steps away. The Night Market is just fifteen minutes down Tha Phae Road. Our room’s balcony overlooked the small pool area. The location was quiet but not out of the way. Our room, the breakfast room and pool area were simple but attractive and comfortable. Breakfast choices were adequate. The service was fairly casual for Thailand but friendly. The hotel had a lot of written information about tour options but we found the staff’s limited English made it a little difficult to get further information. There is computer and internet access near the pool area if tour information must be researched. If a quiet but convenient location is a priority, this hotel is an excellent choice. I’d stay there again.

Fantastic staff, great room, cold pool”

The staff is absolutly fantastic. They drove to the airport to return my credit card which I forgot when checking out. It was such a heart warming feeling when I saw them when I walked through security. They are always smiling and helping out. The whole hotel is beautiful and the breakfast are is so relaxing
Breakfast a little small and the pool is cold but hey it is northern Thailand:)

We stayed one night in another hotel Rainforeste which we did not like. Then we booked one night at Vieng Mantra through Agoda. We loved it from the first minute. It is just inside the gate of old town. 1 minute from the Sunday market and 10/15 minute walking from the night market or a Tuk Tuk takes about 2 minutes if you walk to McDonalds and take it from there. We decided to stay 3 more night and wanted to stay in the same room. First they said we had to move to another room but 2 minutes later came and told us that we could stay. We really liked the view over the pool. And yes you can see over to the rooms across the pool as some one said in another review but it did not bother me, I just closed the curtains when I was changing. The pool is kind of cold but it is northern Thailand so cant really expect anything else. We had some chilly and refreshing dips. The breakfast is small, could definatly be better but still ok and the breakfast area in the rising sun is lovly. Never had dinner in the hotel since there are so many nice restaurants in the area.
