Wonderful place on the water & in town”

beautiful, comfortable, gourmet class

Viewpoint is a beautiful hotel, aesthetically and comfort-wise. Made from natural materials and fitting in perfectly with the local environment, each lodge rests on stilts in the hotel's lake, replete with fish, ducks, geese and fire flies at night. Viewpoint's restaurant is one of the best in town, breakfast is amazing and magnificently presented on your table (not germ-filled buffet). Right on the main canal, you can go on a lake boat from the hotel's own jetty, plus walk to the range of cute and fine-dining restaurants, the market, spas, cafes, etc. in town. Red Mountain winery is also only a $8 tuk-tuk/auto rickshaw away, with panoramic views of the valley and lake and surprisingly (given you're in Myanmar) good wines. Overall, by far the best place to stay in Nyaung Shwe (Inle Lake's main access town)

DON'T STAY ANYWHERE ELSE AT INLE LAKE”

Hotel reviews are by definition always very subjective depending on the traveller, but this fabulous boutique eco-hotel ticked every box in our opinion. It was simply idyllic - 20 bungalows on stilts set in a small man-made lake overlooking rice paddies. The location was perfect, being in town instead of on Inle Lake itself (as that restricts one's activities). We stayed in Room 306 and it was perfect in every way. The large balcony overlooked the lake - wonderful for sipping a glass of wine or two in the evening as you watch the sun slowly sink and the sky turn pink. The bedroom was separate to the lounge area and there was so much room! The bungalows are traditionally Shan, built using local products and local labour. The water is treated and is quite safe to drink from the tap, although complimentary bottled water is also provided if one prefers. The restaurant is amazing and the food absolutely delicious. Breakfasts are also superb and served in a most delightful and unique manner. The staff were, without exception, charming and the manager, Arno di Biase, an absolute credit to his organisation. I don't think we have stayed anywhere in the world as peaceful and lovely as this hotel. Forget the large, flash Hiltons and Sheratons. They don't come close to the charm and location of these wonderful bungalows. If it was possible to do so, I'd give the ViewPoint 15 out of 10!!

One of the best in Inle Lake”

Attentive staff, central location and clean rooms

I really enjoyed staying at ViewPoint - I reckon it's one of the best, if not the best place to stay at Inle Lake. It's just across the bridge from Nwaung Shwe which makes it really convenient to grab food or drinks at any time of the day. For the price we paid, this was a great deal! Breakfast was great (it's more western than local, and it isn't a buffet spread, but rather it's served on a platter to your table), although I'm not sure if I would get tired of the same breakfast spread after our two night stay. Would be good if there was wifi in the rooms (currently limited to lobby)

Nice stay”

Location, Rooms

Our stay at the ViewPoint Lodge got off to a rocky start. We made reservations for a car pickup at the airport and arrived with no car to be had. With this bad taste in our mouth we reluctantly took a taxi to the Viewpoint and on arrival asked and wondered what happened to our reservation. Thankfully, the hotel did their best to make-up for their error by promising hotel to airport transfer on our flight out of Inle Lake at their expense. The rooms were wonderful and the surrounding "city centre" was just a few blocks away. It can be a bit noisy in the morning, but I think it's just because the people get up early every morning to do things and travellers might be used to sleeping in a bit. The canals that feed into Inle Lake are right next door to the hotel, so the hustle and bustle of boats nearby are usually the source of the noise, but that is to be expected most everywhere I assume. Overall the hotel was wonderful and the breakfast included was lovely as well. Dinner was great too, but it was more fun to venture out to the local eateries than stay in every night to eat. Plus, the "shan" food at the hotel wasn't as good as some of the outside restaurants, and just about the same price. It was a lovely stay and I would stay there again.

Great hotel with charming ambience”

Good location, good food

This is probably the best hotel in Nyaung Shwe. It's location beside Teik Nan bridge along the canal that leads to the lake is perfect for excursions to the lake while still being in town. Rooms were spacious, well-appointed, clean and very nicely decorated as are the surroundings. As close to 5star as you can get at Inle. Dinner at the restaurant was good. The breakfast was the best we had in Myanmar for our trip. Service staff at the restaurant were inattentive and rather slow, but the hotel reception staff were much better and polite. Best to choose a room facing the hills and away from the canal which can be very noisy due to the boats.

Excellent food and location”

Food, Cleanliness, Location

Unfortunately we only spent one night in the Viewpoint Hotel - if we had known that it is that good before, we would have stayed longer for sure! The Food was excellent - breakfast was served with a variety of bread, pain au chocolat, muffins, jam, salami, cheese etc. All staff members were very kind and helpful, we even were allowed to keep one of our rooms beyond check-out time so that one of our group members that fell sick was able to stay there. The spacious and very clean rooms themselves were fantastic. We rented two superior rooms and one cottage, built on stilts with a breathtaking view on a little lake with sea roses and ducks. The mini bar was filled with wines of every taste and a complimentary fruit basket was provided on a daily basis. The location was perfect, very close to the red mountain vinyard that we visited by bicycle (also hired from the hotel) and with boat tours to the Inle lake departing right in front of the hotel. All in all an outstanding stay at the Inle lake!!!

An oasis! (in an unfortunate location)”

Beautiful layout, Delicious food, Great staff

Viewpoint Lodge really is a lovely place, honestly. The staff is great, the rooms were quite lovely and the cuisine was wonderful. In the bathroom they have a sample of some local materials to give yourself a mini spa experience - like thanaka, bark sap used for shampoo, etc. Very cool. It was also cool to get the breakfast buffet, because they made sure to give you a sample of a bunch of local dishes and mixed fruit coupled with some European breakfast foods (the owner is French). Very tastefully done. I wasn't in Inle Lake for too long, but I could see that they had a bunch of great, pre organized tours and experienced for everyone from solo travelers to family. The staff was wonderful as well - they helped me to book transport back to Yangon, as well as helped me get a boat to explore utterly stunning area that is Inle Lake. Seriously, this is one of the most stunning places I have ever been to. Unfortunately, the location is just rather noisy. I expect it was at one point very quiet, but over the course of the past few years the roads have really become a lot busier and it interferes with the peaceful atmosphere of the place. But the rooms do have some noise cancellation, so that's okay. The internet is unfortunately limited to the hotel lobby as well, but I think they're in the process of changing that. Was also a treat to receive a local fruit bowl every day! Would come back for sure, just hope they'd do something about the noise.

Excellent location, Friendly Staff & nice embience”

Clean, good location and embience of a country town

The hotel is located conveniently next to the boat terminal. We tooke the boat ride to Inle lake everyday (2 days)just to see the Sunset and Sunrise. The boat ride journey take about 1.5 hours and the price is negotiable with the English speaking boat guy. Beside the good location, the hotel also offer the embience of a countryside. The room is clean. We had our meals everyday at the hotel. The breakfast is excellent however the lunch and dinner is average. We choose from the wok and stew menu, perhaps we should have choosen the European menu as their breakfast is really good. We heard that the boss is a French that explain the high standard of the cleanliness of the room and the style of the hotel. As the resturant is open concept, flies are seen flying close to our food. My stomach is sensitive but i did not experience any discomfort after taking the food. So i would say the food handling is good. There are other hotels nearby and their price is cheaper than what we pay at ViewPoint. Nevertheless, I feel their room price is reasonable. Oh, they also have a cute dog guarding the entrance. We saw guest playing with the cute dog too.

This place is charming and the staff couldn’t be nicer ”

I didn’t know what to expect and it certainly exceeded my expectations. The staff are the most friendly I’ve come across during my 3 week travels in Myanmar. Their cheeks must ache through smiling and they are attentive to your every need. English speaking also so no language barriers. They arranged a wonderful tour of the lake, and a pick up and drop off from the airport. Sure you’ll hear some traffic and the sounds of the boats during the daytime. This is to be expected when staying on the lake. It’s well worth it, and earplugs did the trick. I slept well and comfortably during my 3 day stay. The suite is impressive and large. The bed super comfy and large. I couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. Thank you Viewpoint Ecolodge

Beautiful lodges in a convenient location”

located very near the Inle boat jetty, restaurant with a view, beautiful lodges

Although it's one of the more expensive hotels in Nyaung Shwe the rooms (lodges) are beautifully layed out on the water and include all the expected facilities. The hotel is located very near the Inle lake jetty, the starting point for all boat trips on the lake. The restaurant is good but 'fine cuisine' might be a bit of a stretch.

what a great stay at a custom, boutique hotel!”

Staff super-friendly and over the top, meeting my every need!!

This was my finest and most welcoming stay in Myanmar and made me forget the shortcomings of the other sites and cities visited. I spent over 2 weeks in beautiful Myanmar and my 4 day stay at ViewPoint brought out the very best of the Inle and Shan area. Fine wine (Red Mountain), very good local and international dining from breakfast to dinner and dessert, culture abounds and is worth the extra travel and energy to see this unique and diverse location. Back at the hotel, my presence was rewarded with in room massage, genuinely warm attention by the staff and bookings for every need. I am a retired international resort hotel GM and I can't understand the expectations of any negative comments by travlers prior to my stay. It was a very good value all the way around and I look forward to revisiting ViewPoint and telling friends of my personalized travel experience at such a fine establishment. You can spend more or less money for accomodations in the Shan/Inle area but you will not have a finer stay overall than that at the ViewPoint. Such a nice time!

We absolutely loved this hotel. We were deciding between this one and Paramount Inle, so we stayed in both and wished we had just stayed here the whole time. As an architect, the design and look/feel of the room is important to me, and these are gorgeous rooms, well kept and clean. The hotel cares a lot about the environment and everything from top to bottom is done with concern with sustainability. The only drawback of the hotel is it's location- It's not actually on Inle lake, it's on the canal that leads to Inle, about a 45 pleasant boat trip away. But it is on the water, all set on lovely stilts, and the location is great for getting to the airport on an early flight (airport is an hour away, but at least you can save on the added boat trip you would have to take from Inle.). It's location is also pretty noisy during the day, but quiets down considerably at night. The food is hands down the best food in Inle, and I would dare say one of the best in Burma. The included breakfast is is amazing- with fresh breads, jams, an incredbible selection of gormet teas, eggs to order, fresh fruit, and all sorts of little Shan-State burmese breakfast apetizers. If you don't stay here, I would come just for the breaksfast or dinner. The staff is super friendly. Internet is slow, but that seems to be the case just about everywhere in Inle. The bathrooms are filled with local Myanmore spa items, that really make for a nice and unique touch. Highly recommended.

Fabulous hotel, great location, friendly staff”

Large room and comfortable bed; great location; good breakfast and coffee.;

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Viewpoint Lodge; fabulous room, very comfortable bed, lovely breakfast, great coffee, helpful staff and excellent location. It was near perfect - only improvements we can suggest are increase water pressure for shower and provision of bar fridge (warm beer and drinks are not enticing!). We highly recommend Viewpoint Lodge and felt discounted low season rate was good value for money (not sure what prices are like during high season). We will definitely stay here again if/when we next visit Inle Lake.

AMAZING!”

breakfast, the view, perfect location

we had an amazing stay at viewpoint. if you are looking for somewhere to stay 'on the lake' but on a budget this is the place. its up the canal from inle lake a bit but you can get picked up right from the front on a boat to do a day tour around inle lake. its also still part of the Nyaungshwe township so you have the option to walk or hire bikes to explore surrounding areas. a lot of the other high end resorts seemed very isolated on the lake. the breakfast was an amazing feast! served to your table instead of the usual buffet and the view from the restaurant is amazing. room was absolutely lovely!

Ideal location to see Inle Lake!”

BREAKFAST-a 5 star event. Nicely appointed room on stilts over water. Proximity to town sights.

Overall, we could not have been more pleased with our reception, the room and the warm greeting and attention we received at ViewPoint. It's location allowed us to walk out the door to see the town market, attend the evening puppet show and see other sights on the canal leading to Inle Lake. They booked us a safe and knowledgable boat/driver and a safe driver for transport back to Heho Airport. The noise level of construction and two roads on either side of the lodges did abate later in the day, but these issues are unavoidable in this booming town. Breakfast!!! fresh yogurt w/berries, chilled sliced fish, ham, brie, swiss, 5 types of baked breads, local made jams, 2 honey types, eggs to order served piping hot with bacon, good sausage, fruit soup, hot mild noodle soup w/pork-and service that was attentive. Our two evening meals were among the best we had in Myanmar for our 10 day visit! Duck food provided by hotel in clay pots on the stilted walkway-nice touch, too. A delight for our family!

Fantastic location, friendly staff, best breakfast”

location,staff, environment

The hotel is located on the canel that lead to inle lake, literally a stone throw away to the jetty and a few minutes walk to the central of the quiet town nyaung shew. The staff are very helpful and friendly, they help in arranging for the great boat trip to inle and other local attractions. The kids love the friendly goldern retriever that stays in the hotel and the ducks that swims arround the place that we stay. The Shan restaurant in the hotel serves not only serve the best shan food i know, there is a shan taster menu that gives customer good overview of shan cuisine.

Exceptional”

Arrived at the hotel and was greeted by friendly hotel staff. Was offered complimentary welcome drink and what I really love was that you can choose any type of drinks including wine and cocktail. I strongly recommend Riverview Crush which I think is the best cocktail I have had. Having a drink at the bar itself is very relaxing. I had booked a superior room but was given a complimentary upgrade to a suite room with sunset view. A very good gesture from the hotel! P/S: I was with injury and can't walk properly. The room was very well decorated and the hotel surroundings are very peaceful, tranquil and quiet. Location of hotel was really excellent! Convenience store was just opposite the hotel. Restaurants and jetties are within walking distance. Breakfast was very good. I love their breads. The only cons side I can think of was that there were many mosquitoes around. Other than the mosquitoes, I think this is one of the best hotel you can find at Nyaung Shwe!

Absolutely brilliant hotel”

Attentive and friendly staff who speaks great English, Excellent breakfast, Lovely Ambience

Viewpoint Lodge & Fine Cuisines never stopped impressing us the moment we arrived. I was especially grateful when they proceeded on with our check in even though we had booked a totally different date on Agodo website, without any complaints or monetary penalty. Rooms: Huge, clean, spacious with little details showcasing the Burmese culture. Breakfast: Huge spread of food to start off the day. Location: Right in front of the jetty so it is easily accessible to Inle Lake Cons: Arranged transport from airport to hotel is way more expensive than what you can get if you approach the taxi drivers directly (with bargaining).

Nice rooms but disappointing location ”

We stayed in a nice bungalow with good facilities but we were disappointed by the location of the lodge. From the photos and the description we expected the lodge to be located on Inle Lake with views of the lake. Unfortunately, despite its name, Viewpoint Lodge does not have views of the lake and the bungalows are built over a small pond in Nyaung Shwe town. For the same price, you can find other hotels legitimately located on the lake with spectacular views.

One of the best hotels I have ever stayed in”

Unique cosy design, superb restaurant, amazing location

Seriously - one of the best hotels I have ever been to, and I travel a lot! Practically everything about this hotel is perfect - its location on a channel linking to Inle Lake, great food at the restaurant, friendly service. Wine selection is great by Asian standards, and prices are very-very decent, much cheaper than surrounding countries. The rooms are amazing - there is no single corner or part of the chalet that hasn't been paid attention to. TV with audio surround system, some DVDs to watch, interesting furniture, boutique design. Big comfortable bathroom. Plenty of activities available - lake trips, spa, picnics, etc. I'm in love with this hotel and I will definitely stay here again, upon my next trip
