No water supply, and needs renovation”
Hard to leave a positive review, when paying $75/night, and left for the airport having only managed to wash using bottled water and a flannel, as there was no water in the room at all. Staff very apologetic, and although Villa Sarna has a lovely location, it is also tired and run down, with cracks in the walls, and generally feels uncared for, so we could not recommend other guests to stay here.
Set in the jungle. Lovely place”
The rooms should be non smoking as the smell sucks around and some of the fines details need attention like ventilation in bathroom and light fittings and the taps in bathroom. But this is a great place to stay. Enjoyed the setting.
Amazing place with lovely people”
I spent one night in villa Surna with my friend. We both loved this place. The stuff is very nice and provided the best service. It is near to Rice fields. Driver Took us to nearest temples which are beautiful and he was waiting for us all the time. I can recommend this placE.
A very relaxing out of the main busy area. Staff are very professional and helpful.
Nice big room with a rainforest view. Delicious breakfast. Staff wonderfull! Always smiling and helpfull. Beautifully kept gardens. Location 30 min (when busy traffic) from Ubud, but complementary shuttle bus every 2 hours. They were happy to give me transport on demand to and from nearby resort where my friends where staying. The owners are nice and friendly people. Generally, whatever I asked for was accommodated.
Peace and quiet in paradise”
I chose Villa Sarna after the intensity and fast pace of Ubud to be quiet and still and to get some work done. About 20 mins and 10 kms north into the hills above Ubud, Villa Sarna was an oasis of beauty on the side of the hill, where each separate villa offers privacy, views and great service. Staff were wonderful and attended to every request quickly and graciously. The included breakfast was the only meal cooked on the premises and suited western taste with a choice of eggs and toast and pancakes with fruit and great coffee. After a cheap choice in Ubud where the food was frankly foul, this was a delight, but then again the price reflected that it should have been. The advertised pastries on the breakfast menu failed to appear though. I needed to get some website work done and appreciated the peace and quiet of my solo stay. At dusk though there is a racket that arises from what I can only compare to a cicada, which cacophany is so loud, I went inside at one stage and turned on the air conditioning to try and get some peace. Loud is an understatement, but this is nature, not the hotel's fault. All up, the staff, amenities and location were pretty stunning and I very much enjoyed my stay. The only issue would be the lunch and dinners which when ordered from a menu, come from a local restaurant and by the time they reach you, are often luke warm, but of good quality and reasonably priced. I would recommend Villa Sarna to anyone.
The room was large and the view was great. ”
Large Room. Great view. The pool needed a good clean. It was 30 mins from Ubud centre but they operate a shuttle on the hour if you book ahead. Breakfast was basic, but good enough. Overall it was nice but a bit rundown.
Traditional Hotel in the rainforest ”
Beautiful grounds on the side of a hill with 9 separate hotel rooms each overlooking the forest. Rooms are large with balconies but location is isolated. Bed was not that comfortable so would not stay again.
A place out of city noise & a well maintained property . Lovely view and surroundings. Very calm and quiet place . Highly recommend
Reasonably comfortable but half hour travel to central Ubud”
Had to wait from 2pm to 3-30pm for previous guests to vacate room. Hot water service broke down. Staff did offer some compensation. Advise check location suitability before paying. No refund policy is strict.
Wonderful experience, beautiful grounds, welcoming staff, fantastic! ”
Wonderful place to enjoy Ubud from a close distance. Quiet and peaceful nights compared to the loud noisy Ubud town villas and hotels. Great spa in Ubud town with free shuttle to Ubud town center or drop off right at sister company spa. The grounds and my room were beautiful. I stayed in Brahma room with a wonderful deck to enjoy the beautiful view. AC in the room and room service from the restaurant right up the road for no additional cost. Fantastic shower and facilities. Overall my experience there was a 9-10!
Its a good choice to stay if you are looking to just chill in the villa. Its quite far from the central Ubud, hence its an inconvenience to go out. Our room was more than comfortable and cozy! Staff are always ready to assist you.
What a retreat ”
Awesome retreat..so lovely architecture. Far away from busy ubud.. Right in the jungle.
For us, the best place to stay in Bali. The hotel is located 15 minutes by car from Ubud centre (the hotel gives you a transfer with no cost ), the treatment staff is excellent , always attentive , very friendly, and helpful. Rooms are amazing and you really feel like been in a luxury hotel! Lovely breakfast ( recommend trying the banana pancakes ) and dinner alike. Located in a quiet area in the woods with amazing views.Tropical garden an a beautiful swimmingpool.Highly recommended!!!
Wonderful stay! ”
We loved our time at villa Sarna, all staff were so helpful and friendly! The best banana pancakes ever! We would love to visit again! Xx
Unfortunately disappointing... ”
We came here with fairly high expectations which were ruined from the outset. After reading reviews we opted for the Krishna suite. However upon arrival we were told there was a problem with the room, and we were offered an upgrade. However in reality they had given our room to another couple. Disappointing given the research done in choosing the Krishna suite. We opted for the brahma suite which was nice nonetheless. Fine, disappointing, move on. In the morning we found a frog in our shower, I thought it was cute and didnt really bother me. All part of staying in the country side. Breakfast was fairly average. No pastries as advertised. Had scrambled eggs with toast and sausages. While cooking the sausages, the staff member dropped them on the floor and proceeded to pick them up, wipe them with paper towel and put them on the plate for us to eat pretending like nothing happened. Totally unprofessional and unacceptable. After that, I couldn't wait to leave. We stayed in the kampung resort just up the road, which was our savior. Amazing and professional service there. I would choose the kampung resort any day of the week, and it's cheaper! All in all, unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this place to any of my friends.
Negatives outweigh the positives”
I had a beautiful stay here. The sprawling grounds provide beauty everywhere you look, gardens, moss, flowers. It's a bit away from Ubud centre so it's so quiet and serene and the free shuttle is about 10 to 15 minutes to the action. However, the Villa Sarna would have been nicer if one felt fully comfortable with bugs. My room were crawling with ants on my bed and spiders on the wall.
We stayed for 4 days at Samsara style room. It only contained of 2 beds and a small fridge. everything else had been removed so their home page pictures don't match the details at all. No armchairs, not a single chair. Bar/lounge was in office use in the mornings and rest of the day there was an old lady aged 90+ laying on the sofa, I assume it was the owners relative. So no point or calling this a lounge/bar if it's in privacy use. The dinner has to be ordered at the lobby and is carried from another hotel nearby. No pool towels. The airport taxi couldn't find ??!) the hotel first and then asked for an extra tip due to the difficulty. He stopped twice and asked the way.
Tranquil setting, lovely staff”
We were picked up from the hotel from one of there drivers, Dana. He could not look more pleased to see us and drived us safely back to Villa Sarna sharing experiences and some of the best places to go in Bali. Fresh watermelon welcome drinks upon arrival set the scene for this stunning hotel. Rooms were clean and spacious, we stayed in the Ganesha Suite and our friends staying the in the Brahma room - the Brahma room was beautiful, my favourite of the two, it felt like a tree house inside, hidden within the tropical trees, with a stunning view from the balcony. There is also a free shuttle to Ubud city centre, taking about 20 mins, it runs every two hours, but to be honest, when we asked if we could go straight away, they never said no! Overall, we had a wonderful stay and I would love to go back
