A wonderful place to stay!”

Villa Thapae is a must if you're going to be spending time in Chiang Mai. There are only a few rooms which gives it a nice cozy feeling. The second you walk into the main courtyard you feel like you've been transported to another place outside of the road you just walked in from. It's not located on the main ring road, but is only a 5 min walk to it and you can easily get around on foot to some of the bigger sights in the old city. The food for breakfast was extensive and always delicious. The staff were very friendly and took care of any questions we had. I loved our room with the artistic touches and playful sense of design. The shower itself was one of the coolest things with the ceiling actually open to the sky above! Loved having the little pool there as well. Overall, I cannot recommend Villa Thapae enough. It was a gem in Chiang Mai and I'm glad we got a chance to stay there.

Feels just like home”

I arrived one day early to spend some time in the city before heading off to a resort away from town. After looking through some of the recommended hotels on Trip Advisers, I settled on Villa Thapae for two reasons - location, and size. Villa Thapae is located near the Thapae Gate, which is less than 10 minutes walk away. The Thapae Gate area has many restaurants offering both local and western cuisines. So lots of choices for meals. And for those who must have their coffee from Starbucks, there is one located just across the road from the Gate. As for Villa Thapae itself, I like the feel of the hotel - just 4 rooms. I arrived early and the front desk was nice to offer me a room to freshen up as my room was not ready. I came back later after wondering around town and was surprised that the staff had turned on the aircon in the room, which was a pleasant relief after being out in the summer heat. The room was a good size with a queen sized bed, and a L shape sofa near the window. It has a large balcony where you can chill overlooking the small pool. The open air shower bathroom was large, although I wonder what if it rains - how would I shower. The TV has several English channels which helps to keep you entertain if you choose to stay indoors to avoid the afternoon heat. As the place had only 4 rooms, you get the feel that you are the only guests - I didnt meet the other guests until breakfast the next morning. The room comes with breakfast, but you select one of the options from the menu the night before. I enjoyed the breakfast which was a good serving - had eggs, bacon, patties, fruits, coffee and toast. The hotel wifi was strong and available throughout the property. But I could not log-on at night for some reason. Overall, I would come back to Villa Thapae. It gives me the feeling that I am staying at my own home.

Nice hidden germ”

Villa Thapae is a beautiful charming but compact (boutique) hotel in the center of Chiang Mai. We felt very (!) welcome there and staff was very engaged in making our stay pleasant. The pool was nice and the garden with a nice little seating area was perfect to relax and stay during one or the other rainy season rain.... Our room had an bathroom with an open roof for open air rain showers.....The only problem we had was to find the hotel which is hidden in a backstreet in an area of the town where every other hotel carries the word Thapae in it. It took us some time and just one street away is a street with many bars where thai girls are hanging out for obvious reasons.

A quiet gem in the city”

Villa Thapae is like a coming back to home after a long tiring day exploring the culture of chiang mai. With just 5 rooms available, this is a perfect getaway if you want some peace but yet not far from the old city. I am amazed with their housekeeping who is able to upkeep the cleanliness. It's always squeaky clean at any time of the day. Tuu who was the manager of the villa was very friendly. To be able to have breakfast served at our balcony is a wonderful service. The only setback is I wished they can include thai breakfast into their menu. I will definitely be back again at Villa Thapae!

Stay with a difference”

My stay at Villa Thapae was enjoyable & relaxing especially after our 5 days shopping in Bangkok. Very relax, cosy & rustic feel & location easy access to the old city (via the Thapae Gate), the Saturday Walking Market (closer to the Chiang Mai gate), the Night Bazaar & massage place "Home Massage-recommended by Tu) is only 5 mins walk from the villa. The open air bathroom was interesting. The breakfast in the morning was delicious. Mr. Tu, the manager, was incredibly helpful with bookings and had wonderful recommendations for food, sight-seeing and massage place.Overall my family stay in Villa Thapae was very enjoyable with great people like Tu & his team of staff. Thank you Tu & your staff.

Great Service, Great Atmosphere, Great Location.”

Thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was pretty cool(I was on 2nd floor). The atmosphere of the place was quiet and relaxing, a wonderful place to come back to after a busy day. The service and care was excellent. At one point I needed some medical attention and someone from the hotel drove me to a hospital, waited for me, and took me back. If I ever return to Chiang Mai I won't even bother looking at another place to stay, Villa Thapae would be my first choice.

The house keeper is the nicest man I’ve ever met in Chiang Mai. We received a warm welcome after landing.The triple room is super cool with a lovely garden. The house keeper drop us off at the airport really soon after he knew we had to leave urgently. It’s pity we cannot stay here longer. Villa thapae would definitely be the first choice if I come to Chiang Mai next time. Thanks a bunch! Highly recommend.❤︎

We have really good time in Villa Thapae, this small hotel located near Thapae Gate, easy to access old city and night bazzar. We live in pool access room, even the pool is small but we still have great time inside. The hotel have only 4 rooms, the room is quite small but cozy, all staff here are friendly and helpful, thanks for the little souvenir from the hotel, we really love it. Sure I will stay in Villa Thapae when I come to Chaing Mai again.

We stayed at Villa Thapae last year, but I forgot to write a review. 100% recommend this beautiful villa. Breakfast was fantastic, great location, airport pick up and drop off was very quick and on time. Chiara the manager was totally wonderful recommend places to go and eat, he made our holiday extra special in Chiang Mai.

We stayed 3 nights at the Villa Thapae and hope to return someday. The rooms are comfortable and the design features make the place special. The bathrooms especially were roomy and made us feel like we were in a luxury type hotel. The best feature at Villa Thapae is the staff. They made sure we had a place to shower after a long bike tour when we came back well past check out. The only problem we had was light bulbs going out but they replaced them right away. THe location is excellent. The breakfasts are great, too. If you want a place that creates a relaxing atmosphere and puts you at ease, this is your place.

Peaceful, superb place in Chiang Mai”

We loved our stay at Villa Thapae. The rooms are spacious and unique. Tuu, who is taking care of the Villa is outstanding. During our stay he was always there to give us advices and information. For breakfast there is not a big choice. But what you get served is tasty and the portion is huge. Moreover there are bicycles which you can use for free. After a long trip or a walk around the old city, Villa Thapae is perfect for relaxing. We can definitely recommend everyone a stay there.

It would be difficult to find a better value for a medium-sized family”

While there are many options for Chiang Mai, especially at the start of the "rainy season", finding a good value for my group of 6 was challenging. Most of my searches yielded multi-room lodgings (2 or 3, depending on property rules). I had to do a double-take when I saw the price here (4 nights for ~฿10,000, or around $300 USD). The room was a beautifully-decorated (albeit dark) two-floor suite with huge shower area (separate toilet/shower rooms on the ground floor), and a naturally-lighted upstairs bathroom with 2 x multi-jet shower units. The 1st floor had a private patio, with a massive antique wooden door with a beautiful fruit tree casting shade onto a perfectly-sized glass-topped table and chairs (a metal bird sculpture overlooking...). Upstairs was a very large patio with a large, round sun bed overlooking the small, but perfectly-suitable pool. The garden and pagoda around the pool is appointed with deck chaises, umbrellas, and a large, elevated C-shaped pagoda.

Stayed 3 nights in Villa Thapae, great experience, great breakfast. We booked 2 pool access room seperately, but only one is available when we arrive. Tuu, the manager, offered us a balcony room immediately which was great too. And he also offered us a free airport transfer at 4am during curfew. The roofless shower in the balcony room is another highltght too.Highly recommended.

Great pool and great location”

I had two excellent nights at the Villa Thapae where the rooms, helpful and friendly staff and the wonderful salt-water swimming pool combined to make a very enjoyable stay. There is also a small sala in the garden where I was able to loll about and read for a lazy morning. The guest house is in a quiet street - yet only minutes on foot from the crowds of Thapae gate and the bars and restaurants of Loy Kroh Road.

Lovely Villa Thapae”

My children don’t want to go out instead of staying in the swimming pool. We love the beautiful villa because of the: - very helpful staffs - well-designed room and facilities - delicious breakfast - good location, only 5-10 minutes walk to the old town. Massage shops are all around. Really enjoy our wonderful holidays at Chiang Mai and will come again in a short time!!!!

Quiet well located Villa”

Tuu and his staff have created a quiet relaxing haven for travelers. The rooms are clean, comfortable and well maintained and are built in a beautiful garden with a small pool. Breakfast can only be described as fantastic with both western and Asian options available. The villa is located in a quiet street close to Thapae gate and Loi Kroh road. Thank you Tuu for a wonderful stay.

Wonderful hotel”

It is a wonderful hotel, walking distance to Thapae Gate. While the hotel is located inside of the a small land, so it enjoys the convenience and the quiet environment. The breakfast is delicious, we ordered Tom Yum Kung even is not on the menu. Staff is very nice. The hotel shows a post-industries style, we can see preciose iron-made funish and decoration everywhere. Most wonderfully is, the room has a stair which leads to swimming pool directly. My 6-year old daughter likes it very much. When we left, the manage even gave an elephant toys to my daughter. I would recommend this hotel.

Great style and location for old City Chiang Mai”

My teenage daughter and Me had a GREAT 3 night stay at Villa Thapae. We stayed in one of the pool side rooms which was awesome. Super cool design and style of property. Staff friendly and knowledgeable. Breakfast was HUGE and delicious.

So nice here. The airport pick up service, peaceful swimming pool, tasty breakfast(and when we went to tour in the early morning they gave some drink and banana and sandwich for us. So nice honeymoon because there is Villa thapae, so thank you. I hope to see u soon.
