Amazing Villa with a great Rooftop Restaurant ”
Fantastic villa in Unawatuna. We selected the room with plunge pool. Unfortunately the AC didn't work ( Good lesson to hotels to check ACs before handover rooms to guests) and we had to switch to the other room which having the direct access to the main pool (Both rooms are in Ground floor). It was not bad either. The best place is the rooftop restaurant. Amazing views and you can spend hours. It's a peaceful, nice villa situated in a vantage position. Breakfast service was not good as we got food dish by dish in a very random manner. So had to wait for almost 2 hours to finish the breakfast. Anyway 5 star rating as overall experience is amazing!
Great honeymoon location.”
We were welcomed on a special transport "a buggy car" in which the hotel arranged to pick us up from Gall. The hotel staff always welcomed us warmly every time we met... And the breakfast was extremely good specially with the view to blow your mind.... There were few minor issues with the second wash basin at the room(Superior) But it's worth the money anyway... So I recommend it to all specially to enjoy on your honeymoon. Thank you team at Villa Thawthisa. Will be back again soon... Cheers...
Villa Thawthisa is located in very calm environment. Its staff is verry kind n friendly. Rooms are really clean and verry nice. Good facilities. Good foods. Worth for money this place.

Worth for Money”
Villa Thawthisa is a beautiful place and rooms are big and confy. I had a nice stay. Food was Ok too.
It's a newly built hotel so hasn't quite got the polish of an established place, nevertheless a nice place by Sri Lankan standards. Location is up the hill from unawatuna beach -easy enough walk, but they provide a suttle service down to their beach restaurant 4x per day (not back up though!) Ensuite in our room had a half height frosted glass wall, which looks great, but not really to my taste. Restaurant was good (great spring rolls) and all staff try to be very accommodating and will try to cater to what you're after. Free wifi was patchy, but due to weather factors beyond their control. Great views, lovely pool. Couple of little things I'd suggest for management are having a compendium in the rooms with hotel and local information (eg about laundry service, safe, mini bar, room service, restaurants, pool towels, taxis, local sights, maps, approx costs of tuktuks and so on). Our restaurant menu was also just printed on a scrotty bit of paper - doing this up nicely would make a much better impression. All in all, pleasant stay, and I'd recommend if you get a good rate.
a bit away from the main unawatuna beach but with nice views of the ocean from the rooms. rooms are big and spacious.
Unbelievably friendly staff and fantastic place to spend whilst in Unawatuna. Highly recommend to everyone.
The hotel is located on a hill in an eco resort. Every day i walked at least 2 times up and down and saw birds, a snake, a porcupine, monkeys, and various other. Exciting walk. The hill is not too dark and not too steep. The hotel is due to its location absolutely quite, very good for relaxing. Rooms are clean with morning and evening cleaning service. I had breakfast included and this was a blast with a stunning view on the rooftop. The pools were amazing and clean as well. The staff was absolutely friendly and helping. We wanted to have a room with natural stones in the shower and the staff showed us several rooms among which we could choose. Funny thing, the bath was built within a room and separated by a glass wall. The milky glass was not high enough and so you could always see the upper body. The bathroom door could not be closed completely and the walls did not meet with the ceiling so you could hear everything. For us it was less disturbing than a door in another room that made noise when closing. The light is white, yes, but we only switched on the balcony light and only for grooming the white lights. I would come back.
Nice Location .. Love to visit again.. ”
Really nice location. There was a small problem where agoda confirmation email inform's me check-in time was 11am but hotel said it was 1pm. I think hotel does not know this, I did check again and I can confirm agoda email says 11am. I came around 12 noon and hotel anyway gave me the room. As I was checking out by 11.45am , next guest that was booked for my room has already arrived. So it seems there is a bit of a communication error with agoda check-in check-out times vs hotel times. Anyway its a really nice place and staff was very friendly. Specially the Manager (I guess) who gave us a tour of the hotel . I'm looking forward to visit this place again. It will be great if the hotel can fix some towel racks.
Villa thawthisa , value for money!”
The hotel was great and the location offers spectacular views of rhe ocean , however the lighting inside the rooms are a little too white in colour , it gives you the feeling as though you're in an office! The restaurant upstairs doesnt have a very wide array of food to choose from and what is available is very highly priced in comparison to other hotels of the same standard or better. Also the rooms need more curtain coverage or blinds to block out the morning sun, but these are are all minor issues as most people looking to stay at this hotel would most probably spend more time outside sightseeing than i aide the hotel. All in all great place to stay!
Our stay was truly a heavenly experience. The staff was so graciously kind and personable. The manager drove us to the beach club every morning and was authentically interested in our comfort. Breakfasts and dinners were delicious, fresh, and nutritious. But our favorite was our room! We loved the serious amount of space we had and the view from our balcony was breathtaking. It was wonderful to have the ocean, the palm trees, the pools, and a beautiful hawk flying by everyday. We will surely return to this enchanting and relaxing hotel.
One to watch!”
Food here was fantastic, staff were extremely helpful. Parts of the hotel are still under construction but we didn't mind. This hotel will be fantastic when completed. Room was big, clean and very modern. Would definitely recommend!
Breathtaking views, yummy food, friendly staff”
Everything is brilliant apart from half broken toilet flusher we had our room. Their staff is very friendly. Chef Duminda added some items to breakfast menu just for my 1 year old daughter. No other hotel would go to that extent to serve a customer. F&B Manager was going table to table askimg about food quality, and its great to see such care for Locals as Sri Lankan hotels are known for treating local guests badly. Would visit this place again for sure.
GREAT FOR A FAMILY WITH YOUNG CHILDREN!”
We got a room with direct access to pool. the children loved playing in the pool to the maximum. calm & quiet setting with minimal disturbance from others. Clean & spacious room with nice room decor & necessary amenities. very supportive staff extending the true Sri Lankan aspiration. the food cuisine tantalizing the taste buds & instilled with Sri Lankan flavors. the top floor restaurant is a must visit, to enjoy your food long with eye- catching beauty of down-south of Sri Lanka.
Great place but.....”
Amazing location with 2 big pools. It takes 10mins steep down hill to get to the beach. The staff were great too. But... the room could do with a bit of tlc as could the pool area and the rooms as others have mentioned are not well thought out. I stayed in a swim up room and you do compromise on privacy but now able to step off your balcony into the pool is super. I would stay here again at the massively reduced rate we got booking on agoda. Wouldn't pay the rack rate though.
We enjoyed our stay overall and our room was lovely. Amazing views from our balcony. Didn’t quite meet 5 star expectations with the hot water barely working during our two nights. We were disappointed on check out that there was apparently no tuk tuk driver available to take us and our bags down to town, as we timed our departure to be during their one hour of morning shuttle service. Very steep hill to reach hotel.
Give it a miss!”
Hard to get service in this place, I'm sure when it first opened it would have been lovely and fresh / new, however after a few years of operation the signs are everywhere! In our room we couldn't open the door up the whole way to enter, it gets stuck on the tiles beneath, the lock itself is a logistical nightmare, allow a solid minute of jiggling the key to get in each time, we had wood borers in our robe leaving nasty deposits of fresh wood deposits on our clothes each day, our toilet brush looked like its serviced all of Unawatuna in the last year (filthy - YUK!), our spa drain was missing, the spa wasn't working and to stand up in the shower you have to dig your way through the pebbles beneath to get a solid base otherwise you will end up falling on the floor. Also needed to allow over half an hour for a drink to show up pool side, the gym is falling apart at the seams and the lip around the inside of the pool if leant on will stain your skin and clothes. Sorry guys but not up to scratch, has so much potential though.
Nice place to stay”
Very friendly staff that passed on lots of useful information, breakfast is really nice. It is on a hill so tuktuk sometimes charged a bit more to get here. Don’t really like the floor plan for the room as the toilet and shower is not in a separate room. In all very pleasant stay.
Excellent Recovery ”
When we checked into our room we immediately noticed there were some issues & it did seem to be very welcoming. We alerted the front office team & management with our concerns. They immediately acted to ensure the issues were rectified quickly. From the Owner, Management, Front Office, Restaurant & Housekeeping all without exception ensure the rest of our staff was excellent.
