"Clean rooms and friendly staff."

Behind a grand Victorian façade, this property exudes elegance and history close to the shops and cafes of George Street. A 10-minute walk from the Octagon, the city's picturesque center point, Wains Hotel Dunedin is a classy establishment handy for urban sightseeing. Interiors feature subtle hues, and smart contemporary lines contrast against ornate period detailing with an original caged elevator adding to the charm. In terms of nightlife, the hotel is only a block away from the casino, and cabs are readily available on Princes Street for quick access to restaurants and bars out of walking range. Staff is well-educated on Dunedin's attractions and happy to help organize tours or plan driving itineraries along the region's beautiful coastline.

A historical building that gives a great feeling of touching the past. ”
Excellent location. Well conserved and maintained building both in and outside. We booked in a superior twin for a family of 4. Spacious room with 2 queen's beds were enough to stay in feeling easy. Bathroom was clean. WiFi was strong. Breakfast was very good. I really love the elevator of Worldwar age that was still in good service. I really much appreciate this hotel and will definitely come back again if I have a chance to come to Dunedin again.
Highly Recommended ”
Highly recommended hotel. Great location in the centre of Dunedin with a comfortable room with excellent and very helpful staff.
Great location but small rooms”
this lovely hotel (in a old but renovated building) is located right in the city, with just 2-3 minutes walk to octagon. lots of nice restaurants just within steps. clean and big room. helpful and friendly hotel staff. the i-site is just located 2 minutes walk across the road (the wi fi in site is expesive) i will return to this hotel for sure my next trip to dunedin.
Always reliable at Mercure Dunedin”
Mercure Dunedin is always reliable. Service is very good and the location is convenient. The rooms are comfortable and functional. The restaurant is good but slow to seat me on this occasion.
We really enjoyed our one-night stay at the Wains Hotel. What a lovely building!
Neat and tidy”
Was in Dunedin for a conference, the Park Regis was convenient, clean, and tidy, and every staff member I interacted with was helpful and courteous. I left an item behind in my room, and staff were quick to find and return it. Would happily return.
Good value for money”
We had an interior facing room on the 6th floor, which means the window went into a space between different hotel buildings, offering no view but perfect quietness. The room was very large and clean with 2 double beds, a sitting area off to the side and a corner with the fridge/tea making facilities through which to access the bathroom. The bathroom was modern and clean. I particularly liked the fridge without mini-bar, giving you space to chill some of your own food and drinks. We did not eat at the Park Regis. My only nitpick would be with the Internet. In 2015 you expect free wifi in any motel, and certainly in a 4-star hotel! The Park Regis offers wifi only in the lobby and at dial-up speeds. In the rooms you can get wired Internet for $25 per day. Only when I inquired about the Internet at check-in, the staff did not tell us this, requiring us to visit one of the close-by Internet cafes in the dark of night. My wife would not been comfortable doing so by herself considering there are several massage parlours and night clubs surrounding the hotel.
lovely hotel, helpful & willing staff.”
The location is undeniable. It's in the city on the main strip - street noise is not a concern. It's a 2mins stroll to the city hub of shops & dining. As you would expect from the Mecure this hotel has old school charm with modern comforts. The staff catered to all requests promptly and with a smile. Valet parking available for per day. Look around as there is many parking stations around the entire block of hotel. Hotel also has elevator access Hotel restaurant menu is limited however dishes are reasonabably priced and delicious.
Great experience ”
It is historical hotel and the bed is very big and comfortable can suits 4 people to stay. The hotel location is very good, the nearby parking is not free. However there are 2 safety issue need to get attention by hotel, first is the metal at the room door is sharpe which cut one of my Guest’s finger. Cause the door is heavy, she used one hand hold the handrail, the other hand push the door and happened to touch the sharpe letter M at the door. The other issue is bathtub is slippery even I put the non-slip mat, I was fell over in the bathtub and my left knee is in blue now. But no big injury, just give a reminder to hotel attention to it
Chose this hotel because of good experiences at Park Regis Singapore. However Park Regis Dunedin did not live up to expectations. "Free" wifi at the lobby is only limited to 30mins or 50mb, which ever comes first. Additional wifi usage is very costly. Bathroom floor creaked when walked on, seems it is laid with a very thin material. Heater in the bathroom only churned out cold air. Plenty of street parking around the hotel though. Would not really recommend unless no better options available
Inconvenient if youy have a car”
Of the 2 locations in Dunedin, the downtown one is more for those who travels by bus or train as it has no hotel parking. The train station and the garden are worth spending extra time in. They should give proper and intensive training to the8ir staff. I needed the internet but was given 3 different versions of the hotel policy regarding the usage and free half hour offer.
Great old design Hotel but needs some renovations”
Park Regis Hotel Dunedin was formerly managed by Mercure Hotel group. There was still a plaque and many things inside the hotel still represented Mercure group but had not been changed by the new management company. The exterior of the hotel was very nice and the lobby area was also very nice. The rooms itself was large and clean but the noise of the floor boards and sound proofing could be looked at. We could constantly hear large thuds from kids jumping up and down from the above floors which seemed to be like an earthquake. On basically the same block was the Dunedin Casino and a further 5-8 mins walk is the Octagon where there are many restaurants/bars to choose from. The Cadbury chocolate is also near the octagon and well worth joining a tour of the factory especially for chocolate lovers. All in all, the hotel was ok but beware the sound proofing if looking for a real comfortable nights sleep. There are many other hotel options nearby also.
Booked the hotel at the last minute based on price but was delighted to discover the quality and comfort of my room. Very pleasant staff and he location is close to restaurants and centre of town.
A mixed bag”
It served its purpose and prob one of dunedins better hotel
Currently under renovation, so entrance and lifts hard to navigate. Room was small but perfectly equiped, some gorgeous high end furnishings. Excellent continental breakfast included served in restaurant. Look forward to seeing the hotel when its renovations completed.
Nice staff, central location, historic building, free breakfast was awesome”
Building was old but clean. Staff very friendly. Free breakfast included full menu for all four guests in our room. Very well value for money. Within walking distance to central city. Free parking after 6pm in front of hotel
Old hotel up dated recently work still needed”
We stayed in a superior room (2 double beds) for a wedding held there. The main complained is that the hotel had in adequate heating in the building so in the reception hall it was very cold indeed and in the room only had a oil bar heaters by power.
We enjoyed our stay. Nice rooms and ours wasnt noisy even though hotel is on the main street, great location walking distance to shops. Helpful staff and lovely bar. 11am check out yah!
Great hotel with a rustic twist”
A great hotel with a rustic twist. The elevator was a vintage elevator which I thought was very interesting. The staff here are friendly as they gave me a free upgrade from a 2 double bed room to a king size room as they saw me with my partner. The location is fairly near the city centre which is around 1km walk. However, the rooms are pretty dark in terms of lighting and the oil column heater was not functioning properly. Considering the reputation of the hotel, one would expect a proper panel heater in the room.
We stay here often as the service is personal and friendly.the resturaunt is small and intimate and serves excellent food.therooms are spacious and comfortable. The parking is a little expensive given it's a small city and rents are cheap they have plenty of tour information availible and you get a free paper .the hotel. Is in the main street and is walkable to shops and places of interest.this hotel should be pleasing to everyone.
