Relaxing by the beach with birds”

Found this place online and tried it. What a gem! They have a commitment to environmental stewardship, a friendly staff, and a beautiful location on the island of Waigeo. We took a couple days after diving to kick back, but Sorong did not look inviting. So we took the 2 hour fast ferry and got picked up by the resort. Short, pretty drive to Waiwo. We had the waterfront cabana and loved having the ocean literally outside our door. Incredibly nice place, super friendly staff, good (but limited in scope) food and drink. Also, they have left all the trees on the property so there is all kinds of bird song all day. We arranged to see the red bird of paradise through them and had an amazing pre-dawn experience. Only thing to improve is info online. It was hard to find out much more on the resort's website. But I was so happy we did find the place and would definitely return. We did not dive with them so I can't comment on that side of the place. We did find the beach clean and inviting.

Totally loved it, the place is super clean, people are awesomely cool incl. guests and divemasters.”

Eating and staying. Food is just right and tasty - for a picky guy like me they quickly understood i’m not into spicy and they were careful with that. There’s free good coffee and tea in the afternoon at your discretion. However I chose to, esentially, drank all their Coke :), but jumbo Bintang is available for the thirsty ones. All rooms have air conditioning (trust me you will appreciate this at 30+ celsius, especially at night) although some of them are in the jungle and there’s pretty cool already. Electricity, shower, and cold/hot fresh water 24/7. I guess the routine for them is to clean your room and change towels daily, but it’s really unnecessary, you’re most of the time at sea or at the beach. For me it was the place to go for catching up after jetlag :) Diving. They go pretty much everywhere in Raja Ampat. And they have everything you ever wanted for diving.

      We had a lovely stay”

The staff are excellent and always tried their best to help, Jen, Wendy, Rachel, Chris were all so helpful and also it was great fun. The staff of the nearby dive resort were amazing too, especially Denisa and Melki. This was a great holiday and a lovely place to stay. It is not however luxury, this is Papua and immersed in nature; so do expect to some connecting with wildlife, critters, creatures.. our favorite were the hermit crabs and the cuscus living overhead... The resort is doing an excellent job in a location where extending full services is not the easiest thing in the world (West Papua). Prices are quite reasonable and I thought the value for money is unbeatable. Great job and thanks Waiwo for a lovely holiday.

Great team always at your service and making you feel like a family. Thanks particularly to Maxi, Like and Ritna. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. However the main issue at the resort are the prices of activities. I understand the gasoline is expensive and it is remote (however tbh i didnt feel Waigeo was so remote, the city center has a market and shops with all things available at reasonable price). But one day trip to Piaynemo at 6.9 Million rupees is quite a rip off (even though it takes 1.5h to go). So better find other guests from the hotel to go with you and share the huge cost. Diving prices also are crazy: you need to pay USD75 for a dive (minimum 2 dives) so USD150, and it doesnt include the equipment rental! I have never been to any dive shop which makes you pay the equipment rental aside and at USD50/day. The owner should really review the pricelists, it is really out of the mind. Luckily the staff of this resort really made the difference!

Clean, comfortable accommodation on the beach. Wonderful, friendly staff. Amazing food”

Front Desk- Service was prompt, cordial, and thorough. No request is too small. Food- was consistently outstanding. Chef Ritna’s menu for lunch and dinner includes meat, local fish, lots of vegetables, rice, fresh fruit, and soup. They also serve a good hot breakfast and tea that includes these addictive crispy fried bananas. Ritna is an amazing chef. Her food is easily the best Indonesian food I’ve ever had. The dining room attendant, Lisa, is prompt, attentive, and always smiling. The staff is happy to customize a tour package and will work with you on pricing. Realize, when you book a tour, you are employing for the day a driver, boat captain, local guide, and personal dive guide, and don’t forget that gas and everything else there is very expensive. The thing that impressed me the most about Waiwo is that the staff was not only gracious, but, as a single traveler, so many of them went out of their way to make me feel at home.

A great value resort. Loved it.”

This was honestly one of the BEST resorts I’ve stayed in so far. We were the ONLY one staying in this whole resort for 4 nights which was good but scary as well. On Agoda and booking.com they show “sold out” or “last room left”. That’s all false. It’s never sold out and Incase it’s showing sold out then you can contact the property directly to book a room. Staff were amazing, Kind and very helpful especially Rachael At the restaurant area and Windy the manager. Their airport pick-up and drop-off service is great. A driver named Oniel picked me up from the airport and dropped me off at the ferry terminal. He was so nice and even though he didn’t speak the best English, he still loved to learn new words. I was then picked up by the resort staff from the terminal who brought me to the resort. Rooms especially sea view were amazing. It was very cozy and the feeling there was natural and refreshing. However the A.C in the room wasn’t good. It didn’t throw out air properly and it was warm most of the time. Beds weren’t comfy at all. Woke up with back pain everyday. Bathroom was big and clean. However there were no amenities in the bathroom except dental kit but that’s fine. Chris the receptionist is new here and he doesn’t know anything about the resort or trips to other islands etc. make sure to talk to Windy only. Food they served was good for the 1st 2 days but after that the food was horrible (especially Lunch and dinner) but breakfast was good during the last day. There are a LOT of mosquitos here so make sure to bring either a mosquito repellent cream or mosquito repellent band. The beach was great. Stunning views. Unfortunately I couldn’t go to any of the islands I planned to like Piaynemo island since I was the only one here and I couldn’t afford the cost for 1 person. I need some other guests to share the amount with which I didn’t get. I would honestly call this a 4 star property instead of 2 star. Every staff were well uniformed and spoke English. Anyways, I t

The room is clean and nice but other facilities need an upgrade. -many mosquitos and flies. - diving equipment need to be upgarded (thank god I bring my own equipment). I saw one of diver use a broken BCD (looks ugly and dirty) -jetty and dive center shall be renovated. It looks poor and dirty. The sun deck is dirty. - The staff is friendly and helpful but the management system is a mess. On arrival in Sorong airport, I waited 1 hour in the airport for the pick up. I cannot reached any number available (driver nor resort). We ended up by hiring a taxi from airport to the port to catch the ferry schedule. - we have to re-planning the dive because they did not have enough fuel for the boat. - pricing is too high. - canoe /kayak is available for free buat very dirty. - the hotel/room is not private because some people/visitor can pass by. So we don’t know who is staff of hotel or not. For safety reason, its not comfortable. -food is good, tasty.

cotage located just 10 meters from the sea, food was quite good, staff tried to be helpful, but they do not speak English, so it was hard to explain everything

During 5 days of stay we had only cold water under the shower, plenty of times we experienced break in electricity (power) supply. The hotel is overpriced, the beer in the bar was warm, or the bar was closed, the price of beer exstremely high as for indonesian conditions. The prices of diving in the resort dive shop do not match the reality, double overpriced, the resort is located to far from the most beautiful places in this area so it is not possible to get quickly to the most interesting islands. Menager of resort was helpful and tried to help, to resolve some issues like lack of wifi, he borrow me the modem so it was fine. General opinion and impression is no good, almost every day there were big company events there,no conditions to have a quite rest.

Excellent staff service level with clean environment. Only set back is the boat arrangement which is costly if unable to gather a group for cost sharing. Boat charter to Wayag is costly at about 12-13million rupiah (about USD1,000). They blamed the high diesel cost (oil price is down) which will hamper the eco-tourism industry .

Mixed feelings, Location is gorgeous, but...”

We booked 3 Waterfront villas, location wise it was spectacular. The ocean is right in front your door, the villa is private. Our president stayed here too on 2017. However, the staffs aren't as attentive, we requested for a drying rack and they didn't send it till the next day. I got 2 bed bugs bite on my body, the toilet has a damp and bad smell. We arrived at around 12pm, still saw the previous guests, my guess is the room wasn't clean properly, but who knows.. The breakfast is simple.. nothing special, but yeah if you are the type who enjoy outdoor and will only be staying for the night, its fine.

      Good”
