Both Agoda and Weligama deserve the biggest thanks for adjusting our non-refundable booking owing to a family emergency during the original dates.

The hotel is beautifully located within nature and with a bit of luck you can even see Elephants walking by the hotel premises.

Even better than the hotel itself was the attention and service we received from the staff.

Weligama Bay - 20 - 25 November 2016”
We stayed at Weligama Bay for 5 nights from 20-25 November 2016. The staff were very helpful and the resort itself was very nice and clean, although the new Marriott Hotel next door is an eye sore! It is right on the bay which is perfect for surfers but not great for swimming. Weligama Bay as an area does not have as much to offer and is not as attractive as for example, Mirissa, which is only 10 minutes away in a tuk-tuk and has an array of eateries on the beach and is very picturesque and better for swimming (no surfers there). Would definitely recommend the resort as a quiet place to stay, perfect for couples and families with a nice swimming pool and friendly staff. However, if you’re not in to surfing and want a choice of places to eat in the evenings and a better beach, would recommend staying in Mirissa. The pool and restaurant staff are especially friendly, particularly Lakshitha who was always chatting to us and giving us tips on places to see etc.
Finally excellent hotel!”
After staying in lot of 'good' hotels (we were totaly disapointed), Weligama bay resort was totally different! We stayed in deluxe suite in main building with breathtaking view on the ocean. This boutique hotel has everything what you need: clean rooms and property, superb facilities, kind and helpful staff, delicious food and special details... The most priceless are prices which are without extra taxes and are resonable! This hotel is running under european owner and has high standards in services that's why'd we highly recommend Weligama bay resort! We have had unforgettable and great end of our honeymoon tour. Thank you all!
We traveled to Weligama Bay Resort as a family with 2 adults and 3 kids under 10 years old. Our entire family loved the resort, the staff was amazing, and the beach was perfect. Our ten year old and I had never tried surfing and this was the perfect beach to try it out (shallow waters for quite a ways out, and smaller waves for those just starting out). The family room was huge, and beautiful. The breakfast was great. It's about a 10 minutes tuk tuk ride into the main part of Weligama, but you don't come here to go to town you come here to relax, and enjoy the resort, and the beach. I also went to the spa and it was excellent. I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone who is looking to relax.
Relaxed and comfortable hotel.”
We stayed at the Weligama hotel for 8 nights. We had initially booked a garden villa but due to the open roofed shower which was partially overlooked by the Marriot Hotel next door, we were able to move to a suite inside the main building. Apart from the initial impact of feeling in the shadow of the Marriot our overall opinion of the Weligama Bay resort was very positive. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the rooms were kept clean and well maintained. The access to the beach is excellent and although there were areas along the beach that were a little untidy, the area around the hotel was very clean and well maintained. We ate at the restaurant which was very good and had a wide range of choices. Our only criticism of the food would be the breakfast. It was not very exciting and the cereal and fruit bowls were not covered and open to flies etc. This could be so easily rectified. We would definitely return.
Super relaxing stay with nice stuff”
We stayed there for 3 nights and had a super relaxing time! Hotel is in Weligama and not in Mirissa where all the nice beach restaurants are so a bit off the track but you are in Mirissa by tuk tuk within 15 minutes and 300 Rupien so no big negative point. Beach is super nice (Better & less rocks than in Mirissa). Pool is great and you can rent surf/body boards for a cheap price! Although the prices they offer at the reception (tuk tuk to Mirissa 1500 Rupie and crazy taxi prices) the stay was amazing! We will defenetly come again ! (Also because of the breakfast: fresh pancakes and omelets)
Business and pleasure”
I had a few days in country before a conference in Colombo so made the decision to look around. After reviewing >40 different options, I decided on Weligama Bay Resort. It was a fantastic experience. The room was perfect, the AC worked plenty well, the internet was plenty fast, the staff friendly/polite/respectful, the food was good, AND the beach was right there! I would go back in a heartbeat and be happy I did. Oh, and the spa was absolutely fantastic - perfect massages.
Highly recommend ”
Weligama Bay resort is directly on the beach front, the rooms are very clean and spacious. The staff are really friendly and the service is really quick for food and drinks! The hotel is directly next to the Marriott hotel and although this looks very modern it looks massively out of place as it’s so big and for me ruins the beach front slightly. Weligama on the other hand has a Sri Lankan feel to it and has everything you need and more, even the home comforts of nespresso coffee :). I would recommend to stay here.
Great room, pool, located on beach, surfing.”
After traveling through Sri Lanka, it was great to get a relaxing period at this hotel. We extended our stay. Surf instructors are nearby on weligama beach, hotel offered boogie boards for free and surfboards to hire. Western menu was good (better than anywhere else - we tried) but still limited. Close proximity to Weligama town with all it's shops, pharmacies, cash exchange, banks, etc. Like everywhere we experienced, staff were really helpful, although service was slightly slow. Overall, highly recommended.
Both Agoda and Weligama deserve the biggest thanks for adjusting our non-refundable booking owing to a family emergency during the original dates. We had requested the closest villa to the beach and the closest villa is what we got despite the changes made (at no extra cost). We were three girls to one garden villa, which was rather spacious and comfortably suited to accommodate three guests. The resort, the villa and the bathrooms were tastefully with clearly much thought having gone into designing all the spaces. Not only were we steps away from the glorious pool but also the fantastic surfer beach just off the property (with surf boards available to guests)! We had fresh flowers that greeted us each morning once the room was cleaned, while we ate the included breakfast (freshly made omlets and a well stocked buffet). Tuk Tuks were always available right outside and who needs a tour guide when these guys are best equipped and in the know to hook you up with all the things to see/do!
A very pleasant stay! Had a great weekend!”
We were upgraded to the Junior Suite as the Garden Villa that we had booked was unavailable. This room was a very pleasant surprise! Large bathroom with tub, separate TV area and guest area. We enjoyed our moments in the room. The beach was great, the pool was nice and had a separate jacuzzi. The staff were extremely friendly and very attentive. Although, the breakfast experience was very disappointing, the in-room dining was much better. TV channels were very limited and one thing that bothered us in the morning hours was the occasional horns of the buses on the main road! Overall, we had a great weekend at Weligama Bay Resort and would recommend it! Do book the Garden Villa or the Junior Suites instead of the superior rooms though!
Medium sized luxury hotel on beach front”
The rooms at Weligama Bay Resort were tastefully designed, spacious and very clean. The staff were accommodating and very friendly. The food at the restaurant was good and they had a good variety on the menu. We found the rooms to be quite expensive having come from South East Asia but it is a lovely way to break up your travels and have a bit of downtime in a luxury hotel.
Perfect weekend getaway spot”
We stayed at this hotel based on the great rate we found on Agoda and in spite of the not very appealing traveler reviews. The hotel was absolutely amazing and offered fantastic value for the room rates we paid. Simple touches like hair dryers in the rooms, in-room electronic safes and super comfy beds made our stay that much better. Being right in front of one the best West Coast surf spots is also a major bonus. Our only bad comment about this place is that they're building a ridiculous 11 floor Marriot next door which was noisy and obnoxious. Recommend people check Weligama out sooner than later before it gets bombarded with lame Marriot staying travelers. Food and drink variety left quite a bit to be desired, but plenty of restaurants within walking distance to take care of that.
The hotel is situated in a lonely place. If you want to have a rest from hustle and bustle of a big city, this place is definitely for you. Firstly I ordered deluxe room in the hotel (I wanted to travel from Weligama to other interested Sri-Lanka’s places), but later I took garden villa and stayed in it till end of my holidays. Unfortunately, Marriott built a huge hotel near this resort and I think there will be a lot noise from it in near future.
charming hotel directly on the beach”
We stayed for 8 nights in this lovely hotel that is run by a Czech manager. On arrival we received a free upgrade to junior suite. The hotel is located directly on the beach and the center of Weligama is in 15min walking distance. Food is very tasty and at reasonable prices. Service is great and quite talkative. The only negative experience was construction work on the neighbour property.
Great place...shame about how the Marriott has tarnished the Bay”
Pros: Great location on Weligama Bay, great staff, good pool esp. for young children, good spacious rooms, good restaurant. Stay here over the Marriott every time. Cons: Very little non-hotel and nearby food options and so expect to pay more with less diversity. The Bay could do with more beach side restaurants. WiFi horribly slow. It'd be a great addition to use the spare downstairs area for a pool table / games area to offer more value for money and more facilities.
Great atmosphere and hospitality”
This resort is not noisy like other neighbor hotels but just has a great relaxing atmosphere. I really loved the staffs’ friendliness to guests. If I come back to Weligama, I will choose this resort again!
Quiet, nice resort ”
Quiet and clean resort, a really nice place to escape the smell and craziness of weligama beach. Hotel has its own private beach access that was guarded at night. Restaurant staff and hotel staff were friendly and attentive. Rooms were clean. Price was higher than we expected to pay for Sri Lanka but most places there are more expensive than they should be.
good hotel but overpriced”
Good hotel but now it feels a bit old. If interested in surfing lessons, this is your hotel as there is a begginer's surfing spot right infront of the hotel. Staff is ver friendly and helpful. What i do not understand is why the local authority allows to build right next to this beautiful hotel a massive 20 floor building (Marriot hotel) which looks awful and ruins the whole Weligama Bay view/beach. Totally injustifiable and a shame for the local authority.
Good Hotel for Group of Surfers”
We were a group of 4 surfers, so this resort was perfect for us - right on the beach at Weligama in close proximity to the surf. The hotel was modern, clean, and the staff were very facilitating (even packing up our breakfast each day so we could take it out of the surf trip!) Slightly more expensive than other hotels in Weligama, however we paid the extra for a new and modern property which is what we prefer.
Management did not respond to our concerns that money was missing from the room safe.”
This resort is lovely, although in my opinion, not 'fantastic'. Pros: Lovely peaceful location on the beach. The rooms in the main building are very nice but I would recommend paying the little extra for a bungalow room. Cons: The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating, but there are no fans outdoors so quite uncomfortable to eat in the heat. Unfortunately for the Weligama, the Marroitt group are in the process of constructing an imposing blight on the landscape' immediately next door. Our main criticism with this hotel was the way management dealt with our belief that money was stolen from the room safe. We realised over £400 was missing a few hours after we checked in although it is fair to say we didn't check wallets etc prior to arriving at the hotel so we have no concrete proof it occurred here. That said, there was very little opportunately for easy access to all three wallets prior to this, hence our suspicions fall with this hotel. Only one room was ready when we checked in so for safekeeping, we put all valuables from both parties in the same safe. The Manager was aware of this when he came to the room to reset the safe For us. A portion of money was taken from all 3 wallets to ensure it was not immediately obvious that cash was missing. We reported it at reception. and asked to see the CCTV, to check who had entered our room in the short time we had left valuables in the safe. We left the following day, as scheduled, without access to the CCTV and with no response from the Manager. Very disheartened. It is worth listening to those travel warnings about the false security of hotel room safes.....
