Value for money, excellent location”
The best part of the West Side YMCA is the location. You are right at Columbus Circle. It's a great location, lots around you, easy to get to and at a reasonable price too. You can stay right in central Manhattan without breaking the bank. All that said, don't expect anything spectacular. The place is somewhat old and has a bit of a hospital ward feel to it. The walls are a bit thin, so if noise really bothers you, I'd suggest some ear plugs. I stayed in one of the deluxe rooms, meaning that I had what they call "semi private bathrooms". They're a series of about 15-20 individual bathrooms along the hallway. Each bathroom has a sink, a toilet and a shower. They're shared for the whole floor, but only one person uses each one at a time and they lock. They're pretty clean and hot water isn't an issue. I believe the regular rooms on lower floors have your more standard shared bathroom facilities, so keep that in mind if it matters to you. The rooms are pretty barebones, just a small room with a bed (or a bunk, if more than one), a small table and a chair. The mattress isn't the greatest, pretty springy, but I slept fine. Temperature-wise it was perfectly fine in November. I can't speak as to how whatever AC system they have would deal with the warmer months. As a perk, you do have full access to all of the facilities of the YMCA during normal hours while you are staying there: gym, pools etc, so that's nice if it's something you care about. All in all, it's pretty no frills and certainly not the most luxurious place I've ever stayed by any means, but for the price compared to everything else in Manhattan and the location for a weekend? I'd come back. Set your expectations accordingly and maybe pay a bit more for one of the deluxe rooms with the semi-private bathrooms.

This is a great place to stay if you can handle communal bathrooms and toilets. I was here with my 12 year old daughter because of its proximity to Central Park, Museums and the subway. Also, since I know YMCA as an organisation, I knew it wouldn’t be dodgy

It's one of the better budget options in Manhattan. You gotta share the bathrooms but honestly, there were very few people in there whenever I was inside. The A/C unit was very effective so even in the hot weather, you could cool down the room pretty quickly. Close to Central Park.

I was coming there without high expectation, arrived at 8 am. I can put my luggage at the concierge for 4 dollars and straight walking around the city. Best location, nothing can beat it. My room was clean, TV and Aircon working well, the sharing bathroom also clean.

Perfect location”
I got the private single room and it was just great for me. Although i find it difficult having a common toilet and shower as it’s a little bit far from my room but i managed. Location was perfect, opposite Central Park which i love. This was the cheapest basic accommodation i found in Manhattan.

Best deal in Manhattan for a low cost”
Get the private deluxe room with semi-private bathroom. The only things is the matress was too old (or thin) and you can really feel the springs. Not poking, but it definitely feels. Overall for the price, facilities and superb location is a win/win. No cafeteria/kitchen due Covid.

What you pay is what you get”
Its a hostel, and for the price its ok, the location is perfect. Dont want to complain but there is couple of things to mention if you are planing to go: the bunk beds are really squeaky, and if you need to get up, you will wake up the other person; the corridors are really loud, especially the doors, consider some earplugs, and try to get a room faraway from elevators and restrooms. We were there during covid so it was not so full, i can only imagine the noice when everything goes back to normal. We would still choose this hostel, because of the location and price, but we will be better prepared.
