After confirming with the staff that the location was down a dirt road (2km), our GPS took us on the shortest route from Durban with well over 10km of extremely dusty, rough dirt road (though we did pass the Mandela Capture site and had lovely Italian food for lunch on the way). For planning, it’s best to go the long way to Nottingham Road then the shorter dirt road. Finally finding the location, we checked in and were wowed by our chalet and the surroundings. Fishing ponds and cows dominated the scenery. The chalet had two bedrooms and two bathrooms. A full kitchen that had plenty of cooking tools (it needs a cutting board). As it’s “self-catering”, you need to bring all your consumables including things like salt. There is a Nespresso machine with some complementary capsules. A nice touch. We did not use the braai but it is located outside the chalet. The weather was cold, especially for us hot-weather folk, but we purchased firewood each day and enjoyed the heated floors in the bedrooms and baths. It would be fantastic if that heat was also in the living room and a couple of throw blankets would go a long way rather than having to rob the beds to stay warm watching tv. The showers were great with tons of hot water. We enjoyed chilly sunrises on the front porch and eating dinner at the lovely dinner table. Housekeeping was excellent and rooms were very clean. The only real failure was WiFi which was slow to non-existent in most rooms. Not a deal-breaker though as this was to unwind, not stay online. We loved hiking around the farmlands and explored a fair bit. When the weather is clear, it really is stunning. Fort Nottingham museum was a fun trip and Mr. Zuma gave us a private tour. We loved coffee and cakes at Flamme Rouge in Nottingham Road Town and found supplies at Spar there. Overall, it was a fantastic stay and we look forward to our next visit.
