Perfect place to stay in Unawatuna”

Ocean / beach view; location; design and decor

We stayed 4 nights in March. Unawatuna is awesome. The Villa is clean and really nicely decorated, with lovely areas for relaxing with a book and a stunning view of the ocean and beach. We thought the location was perfect. It’s situated at the southern end of the beach. No direct beach access, but you get one of the best views looking back at the bay and yet it is only a few metres out the front door to access the beach. Hence, pre-breakfast swims were really easy and private (as it’s not a busy part of the beach). It’s then only about a 5 minute walk along the beach to get to the first of the hotels/restaurants which are directly on the beach, and we always enjoyed this walk (some exercise at least, after lots of lying around doing nothing!) and enjoyed not staying right in the thick of the crowds. We would stroll back to the villa after a day on the beach, change and then return in the evening. Sometimes, if dark, we would chose to stroll a little long the road and then cut through the diving centre to get onto the beach which would be slightly quicker. Staff were very friendly and cooked a great breakfast. Rooms (only 3, all upstairs) have air-con, fans and mosquito nets around the bed. Our only piece of constructive advice is that guests cannot get into the villa without ringing a bell for the staff to open the door each time. This is probably for security, but it felt a little uncomfortable, especially when we would return from being out for dinner and drinks late in the evening (though we were never later than about 11pm) and had to wake up the staff to open the door. It felt a bit awkward and ideally guests could be given a key to enter themselves so as not to feel obliged to return early. Not a big issue (as the staff were very sweet), and we would definitely stay here again. This villa (and Unawatuna itself) is highly recommended!

Nicely Decorated Hotel and amazing location”

Warm people, Beautiful Sunset and Delicious Food

Since the owner of the hotel is an interior decorator, the villa has a very classy decor. The hotel is right on the road but once u enter it, its a world in itself and u can cut off from the city completely. Being a boutique hotel with only three rooms, you get all the attention in the Villa. They have an exclusive menu for breakfast and meals. And we loved everything we ate there. The hotel is just 3-4 km from the Galle fort. But personally i found staying in Galle fort a bit congusted, since the constructions there are very close to each other. SO comparatively we enjoyed our stay in White walk villa. The villa has amazing beach view and don't miss the Sunset view from the Villa. I must mention here, all the staff in the villa is very loving and they take care of all your need.

Beautiful location with lovely rooms”

Interior design, location right over the water was stunning, outside dining area

The location of this villa is fabulous as it is away from the main part of Unawatuna but close enough to walk to everything. The rooms are very modern and beautifully designed and the balcony area with day bed is a gorgeous addition as you can sit and enjoy the sunset. The staff were lovely and very friendly but there were some issues with the language barrier ie frequent incorrect breakfast orders but this did not really bother us as they were so sweet. However, the owners and staff were poor at informing us about the hotel features ie when rooms would be cleaned etc. There was also an issue with the staff not informing us that not everything you ordered for breakfast was included in the B&B price and as a result we were presented with a bill on departure. We were really surprised by this and found it a little 'tacky' which was dissapointing as our stay to that point had been fabulous.

Would love to live here”

decor, location, views

This was one of the nicest hotels we stayed at in Sri Lanka. It has a modern touch, and the rooms are comfortable. We stayed in the triangle room which was quirky but nice. The views are incredible, can just sit on the deck or grass and watch the sun go down. Food was good, homemade, service was hospitable. The hotel does not open to a beach but sits above a rocky outcrop, but there is a very small one 10 steps away and also Unawatuna Beach and Jungle beach are just down the way (the hotel is on one end of the beach and the other beaches curve around the bay). The beach location was not an issue at all, and we found this good value for money as the beach is very close. We also ate at the Sun and sand next door and that has more Western fare and was good as well. One note: Our children are 5, 7 and incredibly strong swimmers. However, the beach at Unawatuna was very strong, and knocked down grown adult men regularly and painfully. It is actually much easier to go further out than closer to the shore where the waves hit. I have never been in such a strong ocean current. I think this is how Sri Lankan beaches are in general, (I could be wrong) so if you do go, be prepared to watch your children (and each other) in the water at all times!!!

Very relaxing stay”

Ocean view, large balcony, large window

Villa is very well located and nicely designed. It needs renovation however. If you are looking for excellence and luxury, look elsewhere. Main benefit is the view of the ocean and the Unawatuna beach. It is build on the stones right on the edge of waves and rocks. The food was ok but there are plenty of places around with outstanding meals so do not book breakfast.

Tastefully furnished villa with exceptional staff”

Great rooms and bathrooms. Wonderful waking to the sound and sight of the sea

This villa has only 3 rooms which makes the stay here feel very much like you have the place to yourself. It is at the quite end of the main beach. The walk to the cafes and restaurants along the main beach is very pleasant if you feel the need to eat elsewhere, however, the onsite restaurant is brilliant! Thank you Sabreena, Manesh and all the staff for making our 4 night stay memorable!

pleasant stay”

food,staff, location

We arrived early so i room wasn't ready till 12 o'clock, on arrival lovely greeting, juice given to us, we went for a walk on returning shown our room which we booked standard room however it was very small triangle shape sharing terrace, locked door leading to another room which had a large gap under the door and down the side which i wasn't happy about, i spoke to the ladie in charge who contacted her manager who wanted an extra 90 dollars to upgrade which we were not prepared to do as i think it was over priced for the weeks stay, the manager came back to us on the phone and offered us the room for nothing but on our last night had to change back to the standard room, we were in room 1 good size we had trouble with air conditioning and safe the manager had to come to his hotel to fix the problems, we did not see him for the rest of our stay. Staff very good only 3 at the beginning due to one being ill lady in charge who we called mamma was excellent English fair, her husband and the other boy English very poor. No television in rooms, no fridge in rooms just the little things which you would expect considering this was meant to be a 4 star villa, it could do with a revamp all over umbrellas to keep sun off broken, terraced area not very private at all and the biggest grip we didn't have keys to come in at night and had to wake staff up by ringing a bell, it seems a lot of grips but we had a great stay , food and staff brill, maybe manager should be about a little more often.photos on the web site are very old and do not live up to what its really like.

Staff, food, views

Staff were lovely. Location was good (Villa is located away from the main beach so you miss out on alot of the noise & get to enjoy lovely views). The rooms have a strange set-up you need to ring a bell & staff open the outside door to let you in, once inside you need to walk upstairs to the Villa's but be warned staff sleep downstairs at night time so if you get back late you need to walk past everyone sleeping & it might take a few mins for them to let you inside.

Cozy villa tucked away”

great location, quiet, nice views

We arrived at night and was only staying one night. The old lady who received us was very friendly and helpful. Within minutes we were in our room unpacking. The extra bed for our friend, however, was a flimsy foldout bed. They forgot to supply the blanket (which is really just a bed sheet), but the lady was very quick to give it to us. While the downstairs dining area is warm and inviting, the room itself felt a bit cold because of the concrete walls and floors. The 4-post bed also felt flimsy, but decent. The sliding doors helped block most of the waves and to keep the conditioned air in--or you can opt to open them and turn on the ceiling fan. However, as other reviews have pointed out, we could hear ever so slightly the thumping bass from the music that was blasting from somewhere else. The surprising thing was, the music kept going even when we woke up in the morning after sunrise! Thank goodness we were too tired to let it bother us. We were welcomed with a lovely breakfast downstairs. Everything felt so homemade, as if we're living in a family house. The one thing I didn't agree with was that we had to pay for the third person's breakfast, even though we had already paid extra for the triple occupancy. If the room comes with breakfast, shouldn't it be included for the third guest if we're paying for a triple room? At the end, we paid for it anyway, as it was less than US$9. And the spread was good.

Location, design, the boss

When we arrive the hotel, we like it immediately. We are three families group, so the hotel is totally ourselves. More private feeling. Before we arrive the hotel, the boss answered our questions very patiently through E-mail. The view is really very amazing. During our stay there were some thing happend between the old lady(the principle person of the hotel) and us, the boss called to us to gave his appologize. Then after about one hour the boss went to the hotel from Colombo to appologize his staff's mistakes face to face, this made us feel much better and warmful. We all think the boss and his hotel is really very good.

Very nice balcony with view, good location

I got a good deal in internet, but the original price is too high for what is worth. Very nice balcony (shared with 2 other rooms) with nice view over the beach. We were ther a saturday evening, so unfortenatly we heard all the noiise from the disco/bar until morning, but if you like to party until morning, its good location. Its some hundred meters from the beach and other local restaurants.

the view, the staff and location

The rooms need a face lift, there is no water provided in the rooms or coffee or tea and you just get 1 towel a person. Frankly, at anything more than USD 125/night not worth it. Breakfast was sad - tin jam, yucky white bread, a few fruits and an egg. Stay somewhere else at these prices.

Cosy, great attention from owners, friendly staff, good style, nice quite location

NIce stylish and small hotel. It's only three rooms and small piece of land but it's very well utilised, with stylish decor, friendly local staff and very interested and helpful owners. The rooms are interesting, even though we ended up with the smallest room of the three. Very comfortable and relaxing. The location doesn't have an immediate beach access but makes up for it by a nice rock cove and being cut away from the massive beach parties further down the bay.

Hotel does not look as nice as photos. Stains in bathroom, poor paint job and yard where pool loungers were was not kept. Never was I served such a minuscule portion at such high prices anywhere else.
