Perfect location for Wilpattu NP
We chose Wilpattu Teal Cottage because of its proximity to Wilpattu NP. We spent 2 nights and were very pleased with the accommodation, food, staff and safari they organised for us. It's very easy to get to by bus (Wilpattu junction bus stop is about 100m from the property). The only note of caution is the excessive road noise in the rooms at the front. As we couldn't sleep properly on our first night, we requested being moved to the newer (& more expensive) rooms which are further back. The owners agreed without hesitation and didn't charge us the difference. We were really grateful for this as we were really tired after the full day safari. There are plans for a new building at the front of the property to house a restaurant a swimming pool at the rear. The surroundings are beautiful and as mentioned earlier, the staff are excellent. The rooms (both front and rear were clean and comfortable). I would highly recommend this place.

Great
Cheap safari, air con, comfy beds
There is a lot of flys inside and out, when we got most of them out the room was ok, it had air con the beds were comfortable and it was clean. They have there own jeeps for safaris, half day (2pm-6pm) cost 5000 rupees for two of us ( not including park entrance fees) i recommend holding off if it looks like rain because the animals hide. Our driver was a man of few words but he was good. The family was fantastic and helped us with getting a bus back to Colombo, it cost 300 rupees per person and takes about 3hrs, you may have to wait for a few buses to go past if you've got bigger bags but they go past evey 15min or so.

Adequate lodging
location
This is an adequate guest house. Really nothing special. the room was ok. Clean, but lots of bugs. Bed not so comfortable. no hot water, no soap in bathroom. All other guest houses provided free space for your driver (if you have one), Teal Cottage did not. The woman who ran the Cottage was very nice. Our dealings with the owner, not so much.

Great for price
Own Safari Jeep, Air Conditioning & Hot Shower, Price
I really wanted a chance to see Sri Lankan leopards! It was September, so Yala was closed. There is a great divide- you can stay at the deluxe "camping" ventures at 10x the price, or at this place or Dilsmara? To be as close as you can to do an evening or morning safari. The room is very basic but clean; the place is quaint. The staff doesn't speak English, but fortunately in my Agoda reservation, I'd mentioned I'd wanted a jeep safari, and the hotel has its own jeep, so they'd arranged one for 2pm. It was 5500 rupees. I felt lucky because I saw some other tourists at (the not so great - lots of flies) restaurant near the road into the park, and they couldn't find a jeep (I guess a lot of Yala overflow?) I did not hire a tracker, and this was fine because the locals know the places where the animals hang out. We got to watch a leopard resting on a tree, and he was surveying the deer... then he came down! Beautiful. There was air conditioning and a hot shower. The dinner curry was good but spiceless and there was a delicious side dish, until I noticed an ant walking across it...but these things happen. The yogurt and tea in the morning was nice; the toast was damp. My only real problem was that a group was out late chatting and laughing. Finally at 11 pm I complained and it stopped. At 3 the rooster crowed, but it's the countryside. I wish this area had a mid-range place to stay, but until it does, Teal Cottage offers an easier, more inexpensive way to organize a safari at wilpattu. Bring your own binoculars, and print out your voucher, though.

It was ok. Just bed & shower, nothing spectacular
It is close to Wilpattu. It has AC & hot water. Rare to find in the area
It was a quick overnight stay. Was disappointed that the owner charged our driver a large sum of money for their stay & blamed the commissions paid to Agoda for that. Other hotels charged nothing or a very small amount to the drivers as they are not able to afford tourist prices. The charge for dinner was also alot higher than other far nicer hotels we stayed in. The cost of accommodation is low but the extras can add up so beware!!

Simple hotel on a excellent location for Wilpattu
Location to the Wilpattu National Park, their own safari jeeps, dinner was good.
Ideal location for a safari in the Wilpattu National Park. Just stayed for one night. Dinner and breakfast were good. Jeepsafari and driver were also great. Shower was so-so.

Good option for visiting Wilpattu
proximity to Wilpattu; excellent safari guide; bird and wildlife viewing in hotel garden
This hotel isn't super nice or super clean, but it is a good budget option close to the park. The staff were accommodating and homey rather than professional. it's a bit like staying at your aunt's house. They arranged an excellent and reasonably priced tour of Wilpattu for us. Wildlife viewing is the only reason to go here and they did a good job of providing that.
