"The dining experience was excellent."
Aliki - December 10, 2018
The staff were lovely, the rooms were cleans and the fact there was a local IGA supermarket on-site was fantastic.

Expensive, but great stay!”
We had a lovely time staying at the Wilpena Pound Resort. The staff were lovely, the rooms were cleans and the fact there was a local IGA supermarket on-site was fantastic. The wifi did not reach our room (we were maybe 30 metres from reception) and we were forced to hotstop my phone’s internet as Optus has no reception out there. If you are going to book here make sure you ask for a room close to reception/bistro for guaranteed wifi OR make sure someone you’re with is NOT with Optus (Telstra had full 4G access until about 3km from the resort on a hike). The cost for the room was quite expensive even with the Agoda Discounts we received. Half the hikes/trails are closed from Mid October - February because it’s too hot and dangerous. This was the main reason we wanted to stay in the national park but we feel it should have been cheaper considering these trails were closed - there isn’t much else to do up there! Otherwise we had a great time, great room, facilities and trails!
Hi Noam, Thankyou for your review, we are pleased to hear that our staff were friendly during your stay. As we are located in a national park this limits our WIFI ability. As we are not able to cut down trees to give us a wider wifi range. In regards to the hiking trail closures, this is enforced by National Parks. Kind regards, Kiah Morgan - Sales & Marketing
The Only Show in Town”
Wilpena Pound resort is the only accommodation in the national Park, so there is no choice. Obviously the location is perfect, the room was comfortable and the breakfast very good. A couple of aspects reflected the need for maintenance and the service was also in need of sharpening up.
Convenience in amazing location but...”
The resort offers a nice and clean facility that is ideally located for bush walking, hikes and cycling at different fitness levels. Rooms are sufficiently spacious, offer all modern facility and offer a good alternative to camping, especially for refreshing or relaxing after a day in the (very hot and dry) Flinders ranges region. Wildlife was also litterally at door step which is great for all the family. AWDs tracks were very accessible and within short driving distances. We loved most aspects of our stay but if there were some weak points, these would be: - Food: although portions are of a good size, the quality of food requires improvement. There are very few 'healthy choices' and most dishes are quite heavy. Also we tried a light option on 1 night with the soup of the day which was an ideous 'tomato and bacon soup', more like spaghetti sauce than a soup. - Prices: rooms, restaurant and shopping centre (yes, there is a small convenience store within the resort, which we found very good) are pretty pricey for the service and quality. But there is not much around for competing... - Information centre: the lady at the information centre definitely had not done much around and further. She was confused and could barely suggest any good option for a day, - Room refresh: we stayed 3 nights and bathroom soap and shampoos had never been re-filled, not really acceptable when you pay a premium price. There are areas for improvement but overall our stay was very pleasant and I would recommend the Wilpena pound resort for whoever wants to explore this magnificient region.
We took some overseas visitors there so they could see for themselves how awesome the Flinders Ranges are and they weren't disappointed. The rooms were very good and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a delay in getting our dinner one night and they more than made up for the inconvenience that night and the following morning. I'd recommend Wilpena Resort and we will be be back.
From our first greeting to our final farewell the team at Wilpena were amazing. The awesome scenery and many activities made this short trip a memorable one.
Hi Noelene, Thankyou for the great review, we hope to see you again soon. Please feel free to spread the word. Kind regards, Kiah Morgan - Sales & Marketing.
ADEQUATE AND COMFORTABLE”
GENERALLY GOOD...........GOOD LOCATION CLOSE TO THE ENTRANCE TO WILPENA POUND.
Modern rooms & central location for hiking ”
Great fully equipped modern rooms and amazing location to start hiking straight from the resort. Surprisingly good food and options from the restaurant too. Very nice experience. Plus the Euro kangaroos on the resort are wonderful.
Resort accommodation ”
thoroughly enjoyed our stay and booked another night there. room was large with plenty of light due to two walls of floor to ceiling windows. curtains were in front of windows to block out light when needed. kitchenette fridge was inside tv cabinet which made it initially difficult to find. the fridge was a decent size for a small one. the dining room and bar/bistro had good food at an affordable price. it was nice to look out the dining area windows and see kangaroos grazing under the nearby gumtree.
The staff were excellent and in particular the pride of the tour guides in their culture and heritage added a lot to the overall positive impression we have gained of the resort. It is a wonderful location and well worth a visit. We wish the indigenous owners great success with their enterprise.
We're sorry we've taken a while to get to this but we'd like to thank you for your review. Our team will be pleased that you appreciated their efforts.
The hotel was fine but...”
The resort was fine but a group that was traveling for a wedding Parked their bus right outside their room which ruined the experience for me as I couldn’t sit outside in peace and enjoy the view, and the group started loading the bus next morning at 5 am, shuffling feet, laughing, greeting each other while we were trying to sleep! The staff were made aware of this thrice before they took action. The resort’s bus service to the lookout was abruptly stopped without notice (bus needed to go away to Hawker for a service) on the website which also meant we walked almost 7.5 km with 2 little cranky kids (not done!). Hotel wasn’t able to arrange any other arrangements even when we requested and advised we would be happy to pay for a smaller vehicle. Overall not the best resort experience of my life!
Hi Shilpa, Thank you for your comments. I apologize for the problems that you encountered during your last stay. This is not the type of review that we like to see, and I assure you that I will be looking into each point that you have made. Kind regards, Kiah Morgan - Sales & Marketing
Wonderful location in bushy surroundings, well run by local people.”
Nice pool, good restaurant. My only complaint was that Agoda did not pass on my message that I required pickup from Hawker where the Genesis bus left me and I was nearly stranded there.
Thank yo for your review. We're glad you liked our pool and the restaurant. And we sure are glad that we got you to the resort from Hawker. Cheers.
Great location, reasonable rooms for the price”
Good food, interesting selection of tours, reasonable, motel style rooms, bathrooms need an upgrade. Would not pay the price quoted on the resort website.
Excellent location with scenic landscapes”
Excellent except that on going to registration they did not have a record from Agoda about our booking. Fortunately the resort found us two rooms.
The park was absolutely stunning and very relaxing. The resort was nice and our room was very comfortable. We were disappointed not to be able to connect to the wifi and our telephone network didn't work either so we had no communication for the time we were there. The menu in the restaurant became a little bit repetitive after several nights of the same thing, especially for my vegetarian husband who only had 2 choices. We had an enjoyable stay though and would recommend the place and will definitely return.
We're sorry we've taken a while to get to this but we'd like to thank you for your review. We've now for free guest WiFi in our reception area, as well as our restaurant, bar and Visitor Information Centre. Next time you visit you will be able to connect without any worries. We've passed on your feedback re the vegetarian options to our chef. Thanks again
The accommodation experience was of a very high standard, but that's as I expected, considering the price. So, in other words, good value for money. Only negative was no free Internet. But probably not really a bad thing, right?
Stayed At the resort and had tables and chairs on a small verendah Stunning scenery highly recommend
Nice resort within the park”
we had a nice stay. rooms are good. there are a lot of walks to do from the resort.
Comfortable accommodation in a lovely setting”
the setting is beautiful and we enjoyed a number of both long and short walks. on arrival we were given all the information we needed to settle in easily.the on-site shop, while quite expensive, made it possible to pack simple lunches to take on all-day walks. the bar and bistro were reasonably priced for evening meals.
Nice resort , lovely meals but not enough choice & choice of smaller portions
Flinders Ranges are an incredible place and well worth a visit. Being remote it's a bit pricey. Bar, Restaurant and reception staff friendly and effective. Unit was not well equipped or cleaned to expected standard...i know they are using local community members which i admire. To improve this they need to have a skilled supervisor with great teaching skills, a checklist to review that tasks and units have been completed would help. I would still recommend, but be aware.
Take a look at these facilities:
