no frill hostel, smack right in the middle of the ”
the hotel staff were excellent in delivering their service. my room is next to the kitchen and in the morning I saw many little crawlies. its probably not the hostel fault but the guests'as some of them did not clean up after eating and there creatures will be attracted to left over food. not big issues. it happen to all hostels in summer. all they need to do is to fumigate the place from time to time
Yes. I recommand this place.”
It was beautiful because of the location, free wifi and value for money. Reception staff was very friendly and helpful. They are the best of this hostel. I would come back just for them. However, it was very noise as the hostel was above a bar, and its own reception area turned to a bar in the night as well. I am not a big drinker, so I found that was very disturbing, other than, go and stay, you will like it.
Not worth the price”
Paid for 3 nights, but bailed after the first night we were there. The room was small, equipped with nothing but a squeaky lousy bed. Under the hostel there's a pub, which means you will be stay up all night listening to loud music. And the worst part is the public bathroom, I'm a hotel housekeeper myself, by far this is the dirtiest, most disgusting toilet I've ever seen. I'm pretty sure it's not cleaned on a regular basis, and people do trash this place as well. I will never ever consider this hostel again, not even if I'm only paying per night, it's just not worth it!
good location close to "everything"”
Sorry but this backpackers hostel is not as good as other in Sydney. We stayed in a small room with just to bunk beds - it was not even a single chair in there. The bedlinnen was clean but the curtins were just hanging in one clips so you could not cover them in front of the window to have some privacy from outside and to lock out the morning light. The staff was very friendly and nice.
Far better than expected.”
this hostel was far better than other reviews suggest. the room (16bed dorm) was clean and an adequate size. Huge windows, high ceilings and lockers under every bed. The kitchen was small but cleanish and had everything we needed. the same goes for the bathroom. There is a nice telly room with soft seating and bean bags which is where the wifi works well. there is a club on the first floor. we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and i think anyone who knows what hostels are all about should have no fear booking this place.
Great location, very friendly staff”
We loved our stay at World Square Hotel, located close to Chinatown and on walking distance from the train to the airport. I would recommend everybody to go there! Clean bathrooms, and great kitchen to cook for yourself.
incredibly helpful&friendly youngwoman@reception”
Very basic. Noisy location on a Saturday night. I just needed a bed so very grateful for something very inexpensive and convenient. Other hostels were full so glad this had a bed available. Receptionist very friendly and helpful. Lock up lockers (with your own padlock available in the room for each bed - except I was the last one in and the locking "bars" were broken and someone else was already using the space. So had to take any thing precious or semi-precious with me everywhere. That was a nuisance.
great location, at the junction of liverpool street and george street. walking along george street from hostel to circular quay, only takes 20 mins walk or hop on the free shuttle bus 555 along george street. 5 mins walk to museum station, takes only 12 mins from international airport to museum station at aud$16.20 (one-way). the 6 female dorm, clean room, comfortable 3 nights stay. female toilet is clean, two bathroom rooms with hot shower, like the huge hair dryer and hair straighterner available. two basins, sufficient for use. free wifi at level 2 reception area and level 3 kitchen area. four doors fridge available for use, to store our food, marker available for labelling our food bags. great stay!!
Very Unpleasant Stay”
Overall our stay at World Square Hostel was very unpleasant. We had stayed in a private room in the hostel for 3 nights not knowing what was coming our way. The toilet amenities were unsatisfactory. Toilet towels were not provided at all. We were told that they would be replenished but never did. We would expect basic necessity like this to be provided given the $100/ night rate. The mattresses in the room were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were no longer in a good condition & it felt like the spring were coming off the mattress. This has caused us backache waking up every morning. The hostel gets very noisy at night with the loud music coming from the bar downstairs. Our worst nightmare happened on our last night stay (6th June) when the fire alarm went off at 5am! We had to evacuate the building only to find out that some drunk people had deliberately set off the alarm! How annoying! The only good thing about the hostel is its friendly staff members, the staff were helpful and gave us good tips on places to visit in Sydney. Overall the stay at World Square Hostel was disappointing and not value for money at all. We will not be coming back nor recommending it to others.
Dirty, noisy, smelly”
This hostel is one of the dirtiest hostels I have had the 'pleasure' of staying at - the carpet is discoloured and noticeably odourous - allegedly from the nausea of other guests. The room is uncomfortably warm and the noise levels and vibrations are excessive (definitely bring earplugs). I have stayed in hostels in eight countries this year, some of which are among the poorest in the world; this was the dirtiest accomodation yet. I had no choice when I stayed here due to low availability, but I would avoid this place at all costs unless you're impartial to the smell of fresh vomit.
Downtown hostel with sticky floors”
First, it must be mentioned that the common space is becomes a nightclub at night, two levels no less. By day it looks like a bar/nightclub during off hours. The floor is stick, the place reeks of beer. But if you just need a room, it is quite nice, clean and secure. The sleeping areas, depending upon which floor located, may be far enough away from the disco to give some peace, and new NSW regulations have bars and such closing down early enough. Great place if you want to be in a central Sydney location. Good price. Just beware of the sticky floors.
do not use air port shuttle bus via this hostel”
do not use air port shuttle bus via this hostel i made reservation with 14 dollars the driver stood me up and i had to waited more than 1 hour and the hotel never resolve this problem as like they are no any responsible for this situation. very very sad and disappointed. i just want to sue this hostel and the air port shiuule bus company!!
it is still quiet and peaceful even if there is a bar downstairs. Also, the bathroom has a large room for me to put my stuffs there but the faucet has some problems with hot water. Sometimes it would change into cold water and it is a bit annoying. Besides, the room is very huge enough for me to put all my luggage on the floor. Wifi is not strong in room so u should go to lobby. And the girl responsible for reception is very nice and beautiful. She lets me keep my luggage here for one day though I did not live here anymore....
you get what you pay”
dirty, looks like there was no investments since hostel was opened, wifi don't work half of the time, beds are shaking badly, so when you move you move a person below you and vice-verse. i took it 'cause was the cheapest, but i regret, should have paid more money and be comfy.
convenience for sight seeing but noisy”
At 1/f floor, it was a pub area, therefore would be noisy at night time. Suppose 2/f floor is the reception, but don't why sometimes i would become the pub also. Because 2/f is the only place as wifi provided, so it is not convenience for the guest.
Convenient place but very nosiy during weekend”
I stayed for one night during weekend. The location is very convenient and there are a lot of clubs nearby. It is good for those people who like drinking and party. But it is too noisy to sleep in a big dorm with window opened. Friendly staff.
this hotel is located in a convenient location with ppl from different backgrounds and nationalities. it is value for money and good for single traveller. highly rememend it to those who hv a limited budget and would need a convenient location to travel around.most of the shopping and sightseeing areas are around and you will never get bored !
Excellent Location ”
Great Location, especially for someone travelling on their own. I was only staying one night so wanted something central near where my friend was staying so only a short walk from museum station. Large room with large windows, slightly cold but blankets were provided.
Centrally Located At World Square”
A nice place for backpacker travelers. At night, the place turned into a nightclub, thus, the noise might disturb the residents till wee hours.
