Wulai District hotels & places to stay

the managers (during office hours) are very polite and patient with our inquiries about the wulai area. they made the check-in easy and we upgraded our standard double room to a room with a great view of the mountain, a glimpse of the hot springs river, and the old street town. great two-way pickups between wulai bus station and the hotel. nice old street town. good for hot springs enjoyment in the hotel itself... or head down to the river to try the real stuff. my wife left her spectacles at the hotel's gigantic square bath... concierge was able to arrange courier send it to our next hotel in shilin, taipei (at our own cost.) will return to wulai in future if we come over to taipei again.

volando urai is such a value-for-money. for every single cent they charge, it's worth it! dining ... breakfast inclusive, complimentary afternoon tea, dinner inclusive, complimentary supper delivered to your room. portion decent, with artistic presentation, fresh ingredients, and they actually taste good. not much choice of wines, but not bad for the price (price on the mediocre lower end). room ... comfy and attention to details. make sure you let them "turn in the bed". it's more than removing the duvet cover for you. a nice surprise with a change in aromatic oil lit, a rose on the bed, and candles on the side of the in-room onsen bath. wifi ... free wifi thruout your room and lobby. how convenient ... entertainment ... they know there's nothing much else to do at night at wulai. so they have many dvds for free borrowing - just a phone call away and they will deliver to your room. how sweet. price... the dinner provided is of high quality and that makes the overall pricing even more value for money you feel really pampered and well taken care of staying at this hotel. attention to details and impeccable service. they asked about what you like most and what you would like them to improve on, after each meal. they do care to excel for your return ... what i also love:  the zen ambience they created with the performance of the art director, the lighting effect that makes the place looks like a great get away.

There are lots of rundown hotels in Wulai, and this one did not look promising at first. It turned out to be very well maintained and has that traditional Japanese feel. The in-room onsen is excellent, but that’s about it. Breakfast and dinner are provided. You get a few options and the portions are generous. Wulai old street (with several eateries) is right at the doorstep, while the Wulai train is a short walk away. The bus 849 station is also just a 5-min walk away.

The stay was absolutely comfortable despite the distance travelling to the hotel which is located a distance away from the other hotel chains. It is tucked exclusively at the top of the mountain which offers you the best view of wulai. We were staying in the quad room that comes attached with two in-room hot spring pools and a private sauna room. I recommend this hotel especially to honeymooners and city dwellers who needs a break from the crowd and noise.

Nice location. Really easy to spot as soon as we entered Wulai old street. However, the staff weren't friendly. We arrived at 3:15 pm but the staff refused to check us in until after 5:00 pm( guess they tried renting it out to customers who'd like to use the hot spring tub in the room for two hours.). Although the hotel offered free breakfast, there were only three bland vegetable dishes, congee, and some toasts available. We ended up walked to the Family Mart next door to get our own breakfast. Disappointing.

This place was...adequate. But there was no heat provided, so we were cold anytime we weren’t under the blankets or in the tub. The room was drafty to the outdoors. Food was just ok, although I will say it was nice not to have to leave the hotel to get food if we didn’t want to, and it was included in the room fee. Public tubs were nice but nothing particularly fancy. Private bath was fine, but we couldn’t tell if the water really was hot spring water. We spoke a little Chinese and are not the types to expect people to speak English abroad for the most part. But staff at a hotel is a different story for me, and most of the staff here had no English, which made some things challenging. For $110 USD a night I was expecting a bit more.

My friends and I took a cab into Wulai from Taipei and were dropped off at the doorstep of Courier Station. It is some ways (about a 15 min walk via shortcuts) from the main Wulai area (the old town etc.) but transport can be arranged with the staff (we enjoyed a complementary drop-off at the Wulai bus station after our stay). In that respect, the location is not great, but one does get to enjoy quieter surroundings. There is a 24-hour Family Mart just beside Courier Station if one needs anything. The lady boss was very helpful and friendly, as were her staff. The complementary breakfast was decent, with rice porridge and side dishes as well as toast. If I'm not mistaken, accommodation in Wulai usually tends to be very pricey, so this was a steal. Thanks for the comfortable stay!

Stayed at Luxury Family Room where bedroom is spcious with two bathtubs. However, this inn is located at a hillside which requires you to walk-up/walk-down about 15 minutes to reach to Wulai Laojie (it would be very challenging during hot summer days. Good things are - Good view (from Luxury Family Room) - 2 bathtubs inside the room Challenging things are - Located at hillside - Elevator goes up to 3rd floor only. Thus you have to walk up the stairs with your suit case unless staff are ready to help you with. - You have to be extra careful inside the bathroom. They have slippery sign and it indeed is very very slippery.

The hotel, situated on the eastern side of Wulai, is far from all the tourist attractions which are found on the western side of the town. Although transport can be arranged to be taken to the attractions, a fee of NT 600 is charged. Transport is provided from and to the main bus station the complimentary service begins at 3 and ends at 8pm. When I called up at about 11 am, I was told to wait for 10 minutes but 20 minutes later, I called again and was told to visit the attractions first then contact them again. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We walked to the old street from the bus station which is 5 minutes away, then we took a tram to the Wulai waterfall. However, we did not take the cable. which cost NT 220 to the waterfall park as it was raining unceasingly. We finally checked into the hotel at about 3pm. The hotel looked so old and run-down. It seemed to be a family-operated small establishment with Only 3 old men greeted us. The small reception area is just a counter situated inside the dining area. We were the only guests at that time. The manager brought us to our room and we were told that we were upgraded from the one we had booked. Still, the room was drab, old and dirty-looking. There were insects, especially large black ants crawling all over the beds. The only saving grace is the big bath tub where we could enjoy a hot bath. (I am not certain if it qualifies to be termed as spa.) There is no facilities in the hotel and with all the attractions so far away, we whiled away the whole of the late afternoon and the night watching television. We didn't have dinner at the 'restaurant' after having read reviews that the food is so-so and the cost is high. We had instant noodles in our room instead. Breakfast was acceptable. We had Taiwanese porridge with a few dishes of veg plus a sunny side up. We could also choose to have toast and butter. I will definately not go back to the hotel. It is not worth the high price I
