Fantastic location but held back by a couple of factors”
First of all this place is exceptionally well located, less than 5 mins walk from Zhonglu metro in the heart of the old city. The downstairs is a bar/restaurant with overpriced but tasty food, and the staff speak excellent English and are consistently helpful and friendly. The bar is actually listed in the Lonely Planet (Jamaica Blue) as a destination in itself, but it was rarely rocking in the 5 days we were there. Our main gripes are with the wifi, which was extremely intermittent even in the bar area and hopeless in the room - in fact it was the worst wifi we've had in 8 weeks of travelling in China. The room itself had an excellent clean bathroom but wallpaper was peeling off the walls with some evidence of damp - it could do with a spruce up.
I stayed in an 8 bed dorm room that was exceptionally clean, comfortable and quiet. The hostel runs free nightly activities in the bar/cafe area that create a fantastic atmosphere amongst their guests. Within a short walk to the subway and attractions like the Muslim quarter the location was very convenient. The staff were helpful and friendly. It was my favourite hostel in China.
Best Hostel In China!”
I literally cannot say enough good things about this place. It was an incredibly good value for the money, it was clean, amazing location, helpful and English fluent staff, and a lot of fun and free activities. If I ever come back to Xi'an, there's no doubt about where I'll be staying again.
Booked a single room, which are all located right next to the bathroom on every floor. On my first night, I was on the second floor and could hear people using the blowdryer at 11pm, someone tried to open my door while I was showering and then at 3am someone decided to have a karaoke session in the bathroom (possibly because it's far from the other bedrooms). I don't think guests realised the door to the single room was actually a room, hence all the disturbances. Front desk switched me to the fourth floor without hassle the next day. It was quite the climb every day, wifi did not reach that high and still next to the bathroom but a lot quieter up there. Someone decided to smoke at the sink right outside my door though. The single room includes sink/toilet/shower stall combo in the room. It's a bit cramped but you're not expected to spend the day in your room anyways. And yes, the bed is wall to wall, just like in the pictures. Location is not bad. Cleanliness is okay.
best hostel in xian!”
i would say this is best hostel experience i stay in china, the staff are very friendly. they have events every night at the reception which creates an environment for everyone to mix around which is very good! the staff even join us together for a drink and chat! it was really good experience! the room is very clean and spacious unlike the picture shown! very highly recommended!
Great place to stay at! It is well located, you can walk to some of the main location and the subway is not far. The personal is nice, they explain me everything, show me a map with things to do in Xian, where to eat... help me to book a taxi when I had to go to the airport, I really appreciate it
Lovely hostel, friendly staff and great location Terrible wifi
Most comfortable hostel in China”
Nice place with a nice bar downstairs. A laundry service is available if you need it. The bed had a western style mattress so I slept very comfortably. Overall great place to stay.
Good place to stay in fascinating city”
Excellent place to stay and to meet other travellers. All staff speak English and are very helpful. Rooms are good. Only criticism I think the food and drinks are overpriced. Go to the Muslim quarter. But overall great.
This was our first experience staying at a backpackers hotel, and as a very mature age couple who have travelled a lot, this hotel has set the benchmark very high. The staff were very friendly, supportive and professional. A young staff member "Hoyden" personally escorted us to our event and was curtesy and ensured our safety and comfort on the trip. A very nice young lady and we wish her the best. The tour guide associated with the hotel for the tour to the terracotta warriors, and I apologise for forgetting her name, but she was exceptional, going above and beyond the role of a guide. I cannot thank her enough as my shoe broke at the beginning of the tour and she arranged a replacement pair for my comfort. Never before have I seen a guide go to so much effort, plus her knowledge and English skills were excellent. Also the activities provided by the hotel are free and therefore with the cooking classes we actually got 3 free meals during our stay.
A lovely hostel in the old neighbourhood”
hidden in a small street of the old neighborhood located just behind the busy main road at the center of Xi'an ancient city. It can be a bit difficult to locate on the first time. Just 5 min walk from Metro and bus station. There are some local restaurants nearby which offer cheap and delicious food. ,
Practical and interesting. Lived up to their reviews”
Quite easy to find if you have Baidu maps. I got the metro station master to type the hostel name in mandarin to set the coordinates. Room was clean, free refillable water, big enough for comfort. Everything as promised. Mine had a cigarette smoke smell probably from an errant guest, but I left the small window open for the day and by the time I got back, smell was gone. Sat at their bar for a beer and watched Italians and Americans learn and play mahjong with the locals. Lots of laughter and open interaction. Good English, one of my better hostel experiences. Their tour options though.... If you do your homework you can get better English guides for that 330rmb. Or maybe I wasn't fortunate to get a good guide for my Terracota tomb experience. Ended up listening to other guides when I was walking around, got more juicy details from them than my guide who let us roam on our own more than I liked. Still passable, not a bad experience if you're not into deep history and details.
Sasha was amazing”
There was a maintenance problem with our room the first night however they allowed us to stay in a dorm room free of charge and the room for the next 2 nights was lovely. The staff are really helpful and made our stay.
Would stay again! ”
Okay I was very hesitant to book because I’ve had terrible experiences with hostels, but this hostel blow my mind! I LOVED IT ! I booked a private room since I was traveling with a friend and the room was very comfortable and clean. The beds were very soft just like back home. The location is close to everything like the bell tower, Muslim quarter and the metro, so It’s very convenient to get around. The staff is very friendly and they do speak English.
Incredible value, good location”
We absolutely LOVED our stay at the Han Tang House. Definitely our favorite hotel in China so far. We stayed in a private room, which was super cheap and just the right size for the two of us. The beds were so comfy (Western mattresses, yay!) and the shower was actually separate (not wet-room style). The location was good, you could easily walk to the Muslim Quarter, Drum and Bell Towers, city wall, metro station, or grocery store. Wifi was alright for China. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and although we didn't participate in any they had nightly group activities. We booked a Terra Cotta warrior tour through them, which was cheaper than most tour options online and was organized and informative (the site doesn't have many informational signs, so I definitely recommend a tour). (Lady) Jiajie was our tour guide. She spoke English well and we enjoyed the tour, although we felt we maybe could've used a little more time in the pits. Overall highly recommend Han Tang!
EVERYWHERE IS SECOND HAND SMOKING ”
Everything is perfect ! Except this : some staff and people that are smoking inside on second floor ~ you can easily smell the second hand from everywhere , YES IN CHINA MOST CHINESE PEOPLE DONT UNDERSTAND ：WHAT IS SMOKING OUTSIDE ,even in the room , finally I found out the open bar on the second floor ~So if you guys have the Bronchial allergy symptoms ,hope you can sleep in somewhere else ~
Clean hostel in decent location”
We stayed in the double room with private bathroom. Beds were comfy and room was clean. No elevator so make sure you don't have any heavy luggage. Location was close to the Bell Tower and Muslim Quarter. It was around a 20-25 min walk to Xian Railway station or you could take a short bus ride there.
It was a good place to stay, the only bad about it was that we need to walk passby a smelly alley in order to reach the hotel. Other than that, everything was super good, the breakfast also very nice and the staff were very helpful and we had booked few daily trips with them too. It located near to the Muslim Street and there were a lot of shops nearby for us to shop, as well as food. It also very convenience to take a bus ride to City Wall Gate, Big Wild Goose Pagoda. The bell tower and Drum tower just a walking distance from the hotel. Very good.
One of the best in Xi'an”
I stay at few hostels in Xi'an, Hantang house is so far is the best, the location is good, staff is friendly, free drinking water & clean. Located not far from Bell Tower, can be reached by walking. Recommended !
My favorite hostel in Xi'an excellent staff, food, location”
Many thanks to the women staff at this hostel, who made my stay there so enjoyable and comfortable! They helped me carry my luggage (unfortunately there is no elevator) to the 2nd floor, allowed me to use their cell phone and laptop, and helped us with many restaurant and sightseeing tips. I went for a free walk to an open market to see first hand where the locals shop (away from tourists in the Moslem quarter) with one of their guides, which was amazing! They organize daily activities, like learning mahjong, but sadly, some didn't take place due to lack of guests (not their fault). The food was a little expensive but so good! My room was a little dark, but very comfortable, big and new, with good bed, separate shower and toilet, TV and a/c. Will definitely stay there again.
