        Service and the private onsen

It is unfortunate that we stayed there not at the right time to see Fujisan, especially when we have got to meet the big typhoon. However, at this unfortunate cicumstance, we are fortunate enough to choose Yamadaya hotel. The owner is very kind and mindful to help his guests to find the way back to their next destinations while all the recommended means of transportation which we, as a tourist, have studied before stopped operating during the typhoon time. I definitely go back to this hotel once again if I visit the Mt.Fuji again in the future. It is sad that I can't see the Fujisan this time while I was pampering myself at the private onsen, I hope that my next visit will be better. Many thanks to Yamadaya hotel for everything, the meals, the transportation, and the great hospitality.

        Great Fuji experience. ”

Peacefull place and totally worth the stay! We spent one night at Yamadaya hotel. The location is wonderful in lake Sho-ji, 25 minutes away by bus from the busy lake kawaguchiko. The environment is so natural and the views of the Fuji Mountain from the hotel (from the room, onsen, restaurant) are just amazing. The lake is perfect for a walk and see the sunrise and enjoy the sunset lights. Despite the hotel is from the 70's, everything was perfectly clean and organized. Breakfast and dinner were the best. The food is very good in quality and in quantity. The private onsen on the rooftop (you can rent a private onsen only for you) and the public baths (open 24h) are just a must. You also can enjoy a perfect view of Fuji from the onsen, actually from everywhere inside the hotel. We really recommend this place to live the Fuji experience.

mount fuji view, friendly and attentive staff, clean and comfortable room

It was an amazing experience at Yamadaya Hotel.. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. We got the japanese style room with the best view of Mount Fuji as requested. The staff was very friendly and able to speak english. We even got free private hot spring experience with the view of sunrise at mount Fuji. The only thing that this hotel located quite far which cost us 6500 yen from Kawaguchi Station by taxi.

        Best Stay in Japan”

Quiet and Clean. Near Major Attractions. Private Onsen.

We stayed there for only a night and 3 of us (my friends and I) have regrets till today that it was only for a night. Yamadaya is located just right beside Lake Shojiko OVERLOOKING Mt Fuji. Upon arrival, we were brought to our rooms. The manager was so nice that she arranged for people to drop us off at our requested attraction (Aokigahara) however, we need to walk back. Upon reaching back the hotel around 7pm, Mr Yamada, Owner of the Hotel was waiting outside with an umbrella, hoping that all 3 of us would be safe as we went to trek in Aokigahara. We missed dinner and Mr Yamada even drove us out to a restaurant which was closed and got them to cook for us. There was also no breakfast for us the next day but they are so nice to let us top up a sum of 1000 Yen per pax for breakfast. Breakfast was awesome too. We were also arranged to have our private onsen experience at around 9:40pm. It was relaxing and comfortable. Overlooking the night view of Mt Fuji as we sit in the hot tub. Next day, there was even arrangements for us to check in our luggage at the ice cave while we visited the wind cave. They even drove us there. Our shoes were also cleaned and dried from all the dirt from all the trekking done. I'd highly recommend this hotel to anyone. Awesome Service, Awesome View, Best Stay of my entire Japan Trip. However, restaurants or small eateries are hard to come by around the hotel. It'd be advisable for you to get your rooms together with the breakfast & dinner option.

Impressive view, friendly service and yummy dining meals”

Yamadaya had provided us a superb room with balcony. The view was absolutely amazing. If you prefer to have a peaceful and relaxing holiday, Yamadaya is definitely a good choice. Kawaguchiko area is full with tourists and I prefer Lake Shio which is quiet and majority are local Japanese. I can't wait to plan for my next stay with Yamadaya. Thank you for servicing with very good view, good food and good onsen. You can have your private-time onsen with facing Mt Fuji directly. This is really a good experience!

Excellent hotel with supreme view of Mt Fuji, lovely services and high-quality meals”

Staff: all are super nice and helpful, very polite and caring, good English especially the receptionist (too bad I didn't ask for her name) Food: the dinner and the breakfast are equally excellent. You can have a full stomach with their Kaiseki dinner set, super delicious and beautiful. I strongly recommend that you add the dinner and breakfast to your booking because it is very well worth the money. Also, there aren't many choices around this area, better stick with the hotel, you won't be able to find anything that can beat their food in terms of quality! View: the private bath with Mt. Fuji view is superb. Many hotels have better bath tubs but they don't know how to make the best of their prime location. Yamadaya knows how to design an outdoor bath that gives you the best view of Mt. Fuji. If you're lucky to visit on a clear-sky day, you won't be disappointed. Room: old style but that is why I love it, very clean and spacious and again, with magnificent view of Mt. Fuji!

A wonderful experience to enjoy traditional japanese style”

It's a very good experience to stay in Yamadaya hotel, with a nice view in front of Shoji lake, you can enjoy Fuji mt. view from your room with really nice price comparing with the hotels surrounded by Kawaguchi Lake. You can also have 30 mins free usage for the hot spring which have a view to see Fuji mt. directly, though the room is a little bit old, but we had a really wonderful experience in this trip :)

        Awesome!”

It's my second stay in Yamadaya and i've brought my cousin here. They do admire the ambience, food and service! Although its quite far away from kawaguchiko station and you need to take the 30-40mins public bus to reach the hotel but it's definitely worth it!! Wanted to stay for the third time with my family this september but too bad yamadaya is fully booked. :(

        Such a surprise ”

The hotel is definitely a bit dated but it felt very clean and looked after. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and had the most amazing views of Fuji. You can get the sightseeing bus 2 day unlimited travel ticket for 1,500 yen from Kawaguchiko Station and that takes you to right outside the hotel. The private onsen was great and the staff were really helpful. Overall, I loved staying at the Yamadaya. Everything closes early but the buses also stop early - so you’ll have an early but very relaxed evening.

Japanese style room, hot spring facing Fuji-Mountain, yummy dinner at the hotel

It is highly recommended to take a long way from Kawaguchi Station to Yamadaya Hotel for staying at this hotel! The food and the gorgeous view of Fuji Mountain will be your unforgettable memory, and also the hot spring. I will choose this hotel again for the next traveling in Fuji Area.

Location, staff, food great; facilities not quite”

        Location, food, hiking

We enjoyed our time at the hotel, however our bathroom was very outdated and we wore shower shoes in the shower. It looked like mold was growing on the ceiling of the shower and the area did not feel clean. The room was alright, carpeted areas were stained and dirty. The screen separting the living area from entrance/bathroom from sleeping area was also very stained and dirty. The hotel is close to many hiking trails, fishing, and boating. The hiking trail we took was very steep and not for beginners. Wouldn't recommend if it's wet out as it would be treacherous coming back down. It was a much more relaxing and less crowded area than Lake Kawaguchiko. It is about 45 min bus ride from the main Kawaguchiko station, the bus stop is named Yamadaya Hotel so don't get off earlier. Bring your own shower shoes and slippers and get the breakfast/dinner package as it was very good if you like Japanese food and there was not much else to eat in the area. The staff was friendly. Be warned that if you want a late checkout it will be 1000yen per hour. We asked for late check out but did not know about the charge so were surprised at checkout. All in all a good experience for the price. Recommend walking 15 minutes up the road (the way you came) to a convience store for alcohol. Book the private onsen as it is very relaxing.

Even though the hotel is not new, it has a certain traditional japanese feeling that holds a lot of history. Great onsen with an amazing open view of Mt Fuji. Recommend driving to this place rather than catching public transport. Highly recommended for people wanting to stay in the fujikawaguchiko area.

        Great Experience!”

Impressive food, Great View of Mt. Fuji and lake, and Open Air Onsen

This traditional Japanese hotel (Ryokan) appears to be run by a family of three generations. It is located right by Lake Shojiko, which is said to be offering the best view of Mt. Fuji. How to get there: The hotel is small and at an isolated location. If you don’t have a car, you should arrive at the transportation hubs such as Kawaguchiko Station or Fujisan Station early in the day. After around 5pm, there will be no bus and you will have to take a taxi which will cost a fortune. I took the bus from Kawaguchiko Station bound for Motosu Lake, it cost me around JPY1100 to get to the hotel. To reception closes at 6pm, that’s another reason why you should arrive early. However, the hotel is really worth the effort and cost for the transportation. The dinner (kaiseki-ryori) is a Japanese style feast to both the mouth and eyes. The sashimi is extremely fresh. Kaiseki-ryori is said to be representing the paramount of the Japanese art of food so it is definitely worth trying at least once. The breakfast is lovely as well. The Japanese style room is very clean, with tatami floor and view of the lake and Mt. Fuji. The tea table and chairs by the window offers a great place to drink some tea of sake while appreciating Mt. Fuji. At night, you could see the moon in the clear sky, and the moon river glittering in the lake, with Mt. Fuji as the background. The open air onsen on the fourth floor could be booked for private use for up to 30 minutes. The family members who run the hotel are very friendly. One of them, a gentleman, speaks good English. He was very kind and drove me and other guests to Lake Motosu the next morning. When we finished dinner at around 8pm, I could see the staffs still working hard in the kitchen doing cleaning. I really wanted to thank them for working so hard to make my stay there so comfortable and pleasant. I had great experience at this lovely hotel, and will hope to come back again for a longer stay.

        Perfect View ofMt Fuji!”

        Cleanliness

Arrival: I took an express bus from Haneda Airport Terminal 1 (2400 yen each), it took about 2hours 30min to reach Kawaguchiko Station then took another Public bus (990 yen each) to the hotel which is about 30min from the station. The hotel looks old and quiet. We were greeted at the main entrance and checked in at the lobby. We were then ushered to our room. The room is huge with with futon kind of bed.. there's also an indoor balcony over seeing Mt Fuji. It was right in front of you! Fantastic view! Must try - their private Onsen, preferably before 5pm so that you can have a view of Mt Fuji while soaking yourself! Will upload photos too.. Please take up the dinner package as you will have problem getting food there. Do pack some snacks for supper too! Drawback: It is a very very quiet town. Nothing much to do and going around the town is pretty hard as they dont have many buses (maybe once ot twice a day) so do plan well on the schedule. no wifi at the room (pure relaxing trip from the city) but they do offer wifi at the lobby area. Overall, it is all about the view! i never regret my stay there! Although the hotel may look old, it was so clean and well maintained. It is definitely worth every cents (oopppsss Yen) that you are paying for.

        Unforgettable experience”

Unique experiences as you get to enjoy the private onsen, traditional dining kaiseki style and tatami room with futons. Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff who can speak English hence there was no issue with communication at all. Upon check in, you can reserve a 30min private onsen(included in the stay) which has stunning view of Mount Fuji as you soak in the onsen. The tatami style room is spacious with breath taking view of Mount Fuji & Lake Shoji as well. Tea set with biscuits in the shape of mount Fuji was prepared in the room. Dinner and breakfast looked simply beautiful and taste amazingly delicious. Yukata were provided in the room. Staffs are friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Unfortunately, the location of the hotel is far from Kawaguchiko station. Do check in advance the timetable of the local bus as the bus service to Lake Shoji area is not so frequent. Overall, it was an unforgettable experience and would stay here again.

A pleasant stay. Reasonable price with excellent staying experience”

This hotel located in a quiet place next to Shojiko. You can have full view of Mt. Fuji in your room. The dinner and breakfast is delicious, staffs are friendly, the room is clean. A very reasonable price with excellent staying experience. One point to note, you better drive to the hotel as there are no hotel shuttle from main station and the public transport is not frequent.

Full view of Mt Fuji and Lake Shoji from private onsen!”

Downsides first - This ryokan is undeniably dated. The bathroom sink still has separate hot and cold tap faucets! The shared onsens on the ground floor do not look at all inviting. Now on to the upsides.. It is clean and I believe most bedrooms have a fantastic full view of Mt Fuji and Lake Shoji. It is also near the entrance of the hike up a hill to an elevation of 1325 m where one can get a panoramic view of Mt Fuji, Lake Shoji and Lake Motesu. Best of all, it has an outdoor onsen on the top floor overlooking Mt Fuji and Lake Shoji that guests can book for private use for 30 mins. And all this at a price much lower than other hotels surrounding Lake Kawaguchiko with inferior views and no private onsen. We thorougly enjoyed our stay here and took many photos from our bedroom balcony, the private onsen, and the surrounding areas. I think that this ryokan offers exceptional value and would recommend it to all except those who simply must have their 5 star luxuries,

        Exceptional”

Brilliant view. Excellent onsen experience - both private and public ones. Delicious food. Friendly staff. Interior is pretty old, but noble-looking. Anyway some redecorating would be appreciated. A bit far away from civilisation. Good place to run away and relax for few days with a beutiful nature surround. But a bit tricky transfer. You need to use the tourist bus. We used the blue omni bus, which goes there and back 4 times a day (~1hr for 1-way trip) and is pretty expensive, so transfer is not very convinient. There are few more busses theoretically, but their shedule is a bit tricky (and Japanese-only), so hotel staff suggested us to use omni bus. P.S. shared bathroom in rooms description means shared onsen. Each room seems to have own bathroom and restroom as in european-style hotels. May be it's usual for ryokans, but it was a kind of surprise for us ;-)

Did not expect the wonderful dinner and breakfast”

We arrived rather late at 7.30pm but dinner was all ready and served. Did a quick check-in and sent the bags into the room, and came down for dinner. I was totally blown away, the dinner was fantastic! Totally unexpected for the price of the package. Spent the rest of the night in the room (not much around the hotel, place was quite secluded). Checked out the public onsen, which was decent, I was the only one around. The next morning, again, the meal served was sublime. I think the meals themselves are worth more than the night stay. The hotel itself you can tell is quite old, and you can see it, but it does have the traditional Japanese feel to it. The rooms faced Mt. Fuji with the lake in the foreground. I imagine it would have been a fantastic view if not for the cloudy weather hiding Mt. Fuji's peak. Finished off with a private outdoor onsen overlooking Mt. Fuji after breakfast and just before check-out. Fantastic. (Trip was in early November)

        The Real Japan”

Japanese Food, the views, the friendly owners

This is a great out of the main tourist spot traditional Japanese Hotel. We had a japanese style room and probably a western style may have been better for us. However we were quite comfortable and had a magnificent view of the lake and Mt Fuji. The hotel is about 1 hr by bus from the station and as there is little traffic we should have hired a car, however it was no problem to use the tourist buses from the station to see all the sites. The staff put extreme care into breakfast and evening meals and these were excellent and something to remember. The wine was OK to and at a reasonable price. This is a great place for hiking and enjoying the scenery. We took a bus back to Shinjuku from the station which was only 1750 yen each and was fast and efficient. This is a very good place to stay and I would highly recommend it.
