Hidden Gem”

My husband and I loved our stay at the Secret Garden. It is a cozy and cute place out in the beautiful country of Yangshuo. Our room was very clean. The staff was so friendly and helpful! The ladies at the front desk spoke great English as well. I would recommend the secret garden breakfast at the cafe- it was delicious! They also had bikes you can rent for only 15 yuan a day. We rode all around Yangshuo which was a great way to see the incredible landscape. My only complaint was that the hotel is located a little far away which made it difficult to find a taxi to take us when we first arrived. I would recommend contacting the hotel before you arrive for a driver to pick you up since there are limited taxis and no real public transportation. You could also rent an electric scooter to get around town if you’re not into biking. Overall this was a great get away, and a must see in China. One of my favorite places I’ve visited!

Very nice boutique hotel 8 km from Yangshuo centre”

Great hotel which lies in a small village about 8 km from Yangshuo, so it is recommended to organise transport beforehand (50 Yuan for a taxi from Yangshuo centre). Walking takes you about 2-3 hours along the beautiful Yulong riverside, but you have to pass some stray dogs along the road, so take some stones with you if you plan to pass them at night ;). Hotel itself very beautiful, good breakfast options and front staff was speaking good English. Nevertheless please note that Yangshuo is a very touristic area, so not very representative of China; but the landscape is of course unique and fantastic. Thanks for the great stay

Fantastic genuine Chinese experience”

Beautiful decor, great food, warm welcome

This hotel is a few kilometres outside Yangshuo, but an easy base to walk or cycle and very close to a bamboo raft dropping off point. Swimming is also possible in the river closeby. The hotel is a real find, beautifully decorated rooms, reasonably priced and very good food and great help from the owners in organising visits to the attractions of Yangshuo, of which there are many.

Quiet, peaceful.....for us, a wonderful break...”

Quiet location. Historic building and decor. Good food.

Our stay at this hotel was a quiet interlude during our 4 week trip through China. The owners have designed a classy little boutique hotel that took us back to the era of the building's heyday as a farmhouse. Actually, there are several connected buildings that the owners have lovingly restored, and we enjoyed exploring the village and countryside where we got to see real people at work and living their everyday lives.. It was nice to be away from the tourist hordes in Yangshuo, about 20 minutes away by cab. We took the boat trip from Guilin to Yangshuo, then a cab to the hotel. Woke up to singing birds and the occasional distant crow of a rooster, which we loved. The staff was fun and we enjoyed their cute hospitality. Beds comfy with a light to read by........lots of hot water in the shower.......food great. No TV but we didn't mind a bit! The silence of the night was so peaceful...as was the sound of raindrops on the roof overhead. Hope to return someday....

This was such a wonderful place to stay at for my trip in Yangshuo. It was nestled in a small rural village area, and it is made up of all these really old stone buildings and surrounded by beauitful foliage, which adds to its authenticity and beauty. The staff is wonderful, so helpful and friendly, and they can provide all accomadtaions for you, including a tour guide and a car driver. They all speak great English. They also help with itineraries - have amazing recommedatons- and can get the tickets for you. They will also arrange transporation from the hotel to your bullet train station. They take the stress out of traveling completely. The food is good, and room service is daily. I would definitely recommend this to anyone, and if I ever come back to Yangshuo, I will definitely stay here again! 10/10 highly recommend :)

Enchanting hotel in an idyllic setting”

Village location = few tourists, hotel felt authentic and comfortable.

The hotel is situated in Jiuxian Village, outside of Yangshuo. Our room had the best view, looking out onto the village and mountain landscape. The architecture of the building and renovations were humble but very comfortable. With the hospitality of the owner and staff, we felt like we were staying in someone's home. Wandering around the village and taking a bike ride up to the Yu Long River gives a sense of being in another time. We only stayed one and a half days, but it felt much longer. Will definitely return!

The secret garden was a great find, the hotel is beautiful, food was great and the service amazing. The staff are so friendly and will do anything to make your stay a great one. I would definitely recommend to anyone! I think the only thing that would have made the stay even better would be a pool an to be slightly closer to town and tourist attractions.

Best kept secret”

Cosy homely and tucked away from crowd

Lovely hotel with friendly service, tucked away in the village of Jiuxuan. Perfect for relaxation, discovering the quiet life in Yangshuo, cycling around and truly appreciating the views of this city. Owners kept the feel and architecture of the Qing dynasty buildings while providing modern comforts designed tastefully. Very clean and comfortable. Food was excellent, providing us with our daily meals. Bicycles are easy to rent just outside of hotel, and transport or tours can be organised. Definitely recommend this quaint hotel for guests who wants a quieter retreat amidst paddyfields and nature.

Lovely hotel in the middle of nowhere”

Very friendly staff, very good advice and help with organizing trips, excellent and abundant food

Lovely stay. The hotel is quite far from Yangshuo but this was a plus as it was quiet and peaceful. The town can easily be reached by taxi for 40-50 yuan. The hotel staff are welcoming, friendly and helpful and we benefited from their expertise in helping us arrange trips, etc. The food is excellent, all home-cooked and fresh.

Delightfully quiet oasis away from the bustle”

Really helpful staff with excellent English Relaxing hotel with great outdoor spaces and delightful English style rooms Very tasty restaurant food, fresh and likely customised for a European palette

Really enjoyed a short break, relaxing in the garden and letting the hotel staff arrange all of our activities, which were very well priced. Hotel was delightful with very nice public areas. Only thing to be aware of is that this is a mosquito area so take some anti, bug spray to protect yourself (there are devices in the room to dissuade the bugs but they aren't 100% effective)

Great Hotel, Great Service, Great Food”

The staff was really freindly and the food at the hotel was amazing. Order the Egplant with pork in a claypot.

It is a great place to stay. Heads up the hotel is in a rural village outside of Yangshuo. IT is a 15 minute cab ride (about 50 Yuan) from the bus station in town and is a bit too far to ride your bike unless you are a pro.

Quiet Country Retreat”

Great Staff, Good Coffee and location

We enjoyed our stay at the Secret Garden. The Driver and the head waitress Tanya were very kind and friendly. I left tips for Tanya so I hope she gets it. The shower was a bit weak at night and in peak hour you need to wait for a bit to heat up again. The dining area was a bit cold. Would have been cosier if they windows were shut and heater was on. The Chinese are used to the cold.

Location, design, staff

After reading website description/story and reviews of the place I was so much looking forward to staying in this hotel... I was not disappointed. Lovingly restored old traditional house with all modern conveniences... It is in perfect harmony with the beautiful surroundings - carst mountains, rice fields and lush vegetation. New modern pieces of art harmoniously complete the picture... Food is delicious and staff lovely and extremely helpful... Do come, stay there and you won't be disappointed!

Secret Garden was a great experience for relaxing and getting into the country.”

Amazing staff and people running the hotel. First impressions walking into the hotel is that it is a bit rough but once you are settled in it all feels comfortable. There are no views of the mountains from inside the hotel or very few- sitting at the top of the restaurant you can see out. Food was very good. Awesome that the hotels make all the arrangements for trips. Managed very well!!! One negative is that our room smelt a bit musty.

Peaceful and Atmospheric”

This was a real experience living in restored part of an old village. It's well away from any main roads and very peaceful at night... you could hear a pin drop. The staff were super-friendly and especially in the restaurant there was a very warm and friendly atmosphere, with very happy waitresses. If I had to make any suggestions for improvement they would be: (1) Please work out how to make the beer properly cold; (2) Please stop giving guests 2 small plastic bottles of water every day — so much plastic waste! You could have more water dispensers around the place and sell/give branded refillable water bottles to anyone who doesn't already have their own. I felt very at home and welcomed here, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone.
