Excellent stay ”

We had a lovely time at Ambleside YHA in Easter 2022. The hostel was everything that you want in a hostel. Staff was good, location was good , and the room was also a nice size and clean. Excellent spot to catch the cruise or go for a walk.

Everything you need from a hostel. ”

Close to the pier where you can get the cruise boats. Walking distance to Ambleside where the restaurants, pubs, and grocery stores are. Lakeview rooms and fully equipped self catering kitchen. Helping staff. A wonderful experience staying here.

Nice budget accommodation on the lake shore”

Nice budget accommodation with nice view to the lake and good communal facilities such as kitchens, fridges, play areas etc. We would also tried the restaurant for dinner, but unfortunately the kitchen was already closed by the time we got back in the evening.

Amazing hostel with friendly staff”

We had a wonderful hostel experience at YHA Ambleside. The staff were so friendly and helped us with maps for our hillwalking. The views are beautiful and the rooms were clean. The only downside was that the wifi is terrible. That would have been fine except that I needed to use it for a work zoom meeting and the connection kept dropping.

Amazing location”

Amazing location/ great price hostel. Hostel has a parking, but is small, though don't worry as there are other parking lots around to leave the car. Check in was quick and easy. Room clean. Hostel jus a minute away from the boat/ship docks for the cruises. We were very happy with our choice.

Spot on! ”

The location is superb! we are a group of 5, staying there for a night, we arrived to Windermere, we took a hop-on hop off bus, its kind of like a mini tour and there we go, we got to ambleside and this YHA is just by the lake, by the bus stop. We didn't expect this to be this good, the facilities were awesome, we made ourselves dinner and breakfast in the shared kitchen and had it by the seats by the lake. imagine that! Just one tip for whoever's looking at this, if you are coming here like us, in a group, and wanna make some food, buy some grocery at Winderemere trainstation, there's a big grocery three. From YHA ambleside, the closest is Tesco, which is about 25 min walk.

go if you are solo traveller”

The location is not really good. There are no convenience store or supermarket around the hostel, you need to get to city centre by bus and a single ticket will charge you £5. The room is the tiniest among the tens of hostels I stayed before, so you only want to stay there when you are ready to sleep. But for the low price and cleanliness, I would still recommend it to any people who are travelling in low budget.

Hi Rachel. Thanks for taking the time to write a review. Well, I have to say, this is literally the first time I've had to respond to a review that starts by saying we have a poor location. You are correct, there isn't a supermarket or convenience store right next to us, but the closest one is about a 15 minute walk away. However, I think most of our guests would take that for the views of Lake Windermere and the Langdale Pikes that you can get right from our front steps. Other than that, I'm glad you would still recommend us
