Beautiful view from our hotel with a nice and big outdoor Onsen. ”
Beautiful view from our hotel room. They also have a nice and big outdoor Onsen. They serve meals with every single dish beautifully listed out. Nice and polite service staff and speak very good English.

Cute, Traditional Ryokan and an excellent jumping-off point”
Very interesting experience staying at this Ryokan in a traditional Japanese room. The staff are exceptionally patient and though most do not speak english, you can make your way through most interactions with mime-ing and/or context clues. There is a good in-room guide to the rules/expectations around the experience, including dining and the onsen. Our meals were taken in a private table in the banquet hall rather than in our room, and the kaiseki-style meals were beautifully presented and elaborate affairs. Some items aren't too suited to western tastes, particularly those with a chewy/gelatinous texture - and be aware no options are given. The onsen is fantastic, and nobody was the least bit concerned about our tattoos, including a half-sleeve. The larger of the two outdoor sides is particularly wonderful in the winter in the snow. Great location for jumping-off to the Snow Monkey Park and Shiga Kogen ski area, but be aware the breakfast times are not great to make the early bus.

Legit”
The legends are true. Whether you opt for the pricier ryokan option or the more affordable annex building across the street (connected via tunnel) this onsen is truely a gem from breakfast to bath to dinner to bath. Especially nice after a day of skiing, the onsen's fare was superb but limited to a three day rotation at the time of this reviews writing. Whichever rooms you book all have access to the two baths which alternate between women or men twice, daily. Service staff more than live up to Japan's well earned hospitality reputation and they are more then well equipped to deal with any minor ski related injuries.

Zomg my wallet is empty but my heart is full”
Umm yeah, this motel will take a hefty bite into your wallet, but if you wanna splurge, this is a great location to do it. Onsen are amazing, dinners/brekkie awesome, service great - not all staff speak english, but they will call over the staff who do to assist. Snowed heavily, and they organized a minibus to take the guests to train station. Location is a few minutes walk up from the station, and much further from the coin laundry down on the river. But it is on a good street, with cafe, Post Office, pharmacy. For those cash-strapped, you can pay to use the onsen without staying at the motel, so I am told. But honestly, my highlight of my entire 1st Japan trip was in the big outside bath at 5.30am in the dark, sitting in steaming water, as fresh snowfall fell onto my face from the low-hanging branches. Spend the moneys, all of them!

An experience not to be missed”
If you're keen to experience a aRyikan and an Onsen, this is a great place to try. You'll find everyone super friendly and helpful. There are explanations in English regarding what to do, wear and the etiquette. The food. is fabulous, but you'll need a good appetite, there are many many dishes. If you're visiting the Snow Monkeys. The courtesy bus is great to get you there but you will rush it to get back in 2 hours from the drop off, but get the A bus back it's easy. GREAT PLACE - FABULOUS PEOPLE!!!

High end ryokan”
If you're looking for a cheap ryokan, this is not the place for you. If you're looking for in room wifi with pay per view, this is not the place for you. This is a top of the line ryokan with excellent staff and traditional facilities, the meals offered are thoughtful and extremely delicate. Monkey park is a must visit location, the ryokan provides transportation.
