Very pleasant if rather remote onsen.”

Location, breakfast, onsen (hot pools)

The Yunominesou is a slightly out of the way Onsen in the centre of the Nii Peninsula linked to the Kumano Kodo. The surroundings are splendid but the onsen itself is somewhat difficult to access without a car (there is a bus to the bottom of the hill but it isn't well indicated either on their site or in the advertising). The room is a quite spacious and pleasant tatami, the outdoor pools are very nice and the breakfast was exceptional. The dinner was however, very expensive with no other available food options either in the hotel or in the vicinity. The staff were pleasant and had a reasonable grasp of English.

Exceptional”

Everything is great from the staff to the place to the facilities to everything. Nothing to fault! The staff is especially friendly and helpful. We encountered difficulty in making our way to Yunominesou and they arranged for a van to pick us up at the bus stop we alighted. Had a tremendous 2 nights stay there. They even make special arrangement for meals as some in our group do not take certain food. On our day of departure, in order to catch our bus ride back to Shingu Station, they even send our group in the morning to the designated bus stop notwithstanding their busy schedule (one of the busiest time cos is breakfast time). Deeply appreciate their gesture. THUMBS UP!

It's a great place for onsen!!!”

Even the location is not near with the village but you can walk around not over 10mins and it's quite be private for your staying and onsen. They have 2 onsen bathubs both indoor and outdoor as public onsen services, seperated for lady and gentleman and switch room after 10pm, also has a private room!!! And onsen service will be open for a whole night until 9am, I think that's a very good idea to serve the guest. An open air public onsen is very nice atmosphere, must try!! For dinner and breakfast meals, it's also recommended to try. It's very nice as they served the guest a full set meal and also delicious. It's worth for your payment!! Another thing is the location of the hotel which is on the top of hill. If you come by public bus, the bus stop will be at the front of the hotel named "simoyunomine", it will be difficult a bit to drag your luggage to the hill if it's heavy But it's ok

The hotel was a bit old but the hotel upgraded us to a big family room, so that was very nice. Young staff speak English and were very helpful. 5 Stars for the Staff. Wonderful way to end a trip”

Amazing place to stay for a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. The staff were wonderful. Yano-san explained everything to us in English when needed. The food was outstanding. We very much enjoyed the room and the local village. I would recommend anyone traveling just for experience or on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage to stay at this Ryokan.

Bad attitude means not worth it at all”

Breakfast was fixed at 8am, but I only reach the hall at 8.15am. I was very apologetic and keep bowing and apologize. The manager in charge gave me an extremely unhappy look and said "we close strictly at 8.30am for breakfast, please hurry up". That instance I felt like I was in an army camp. That's fine, so I ate as fast as I can, and by the time the last drop of soup was in my mouth, my watch says 8.31am. To my surprise, the manager came over and said this: "in Japan, we don't like people who are late. Please be on time for anywhere you go next time" (still frowning and very agitated tone. That was totally uncalled for and unnecessary. I was late, I know that. I'm already apologetic and kept apologizing, I don't think it's necessary to again continue with another lecture. I'm a guest afterall. Such a disappointment and I won't recommend it. I gave 2 stars only because they have some good hires, but the Owner need some serious training.

Not what I have expected ”

The food was really good and the doggies really made it enjoyable. I got to walk the dogs on my last day and really had a good time. The drive there was ok, but be careful of the GPS going wonky due to electronic interference. Happened to me, wasn't nice to be lead up a narrow road in the high mountains.
