Amazing Dinner, True Ryokan Experience”
Had an amazing set of meals and very relaxing stay at this inn. Stayed in a couple Ryokans during our trip and this is definitely a great option if you're looking for one in Kyoto.

Absolutely memorable ”
The food was great the location... couldn't be better. The building is interesting from heritage point of view. Might not be suitable for very old people as there are steep steps. But its an old house.. so that's character in itself.

Exceptional”
Thoroughly enjoyed the Ryokan experience (our first). Spotless rooms and common areas. The yuzu bath in big wooden tub was a treat. Comfortable futon beds. The restaurant experience was amazing. Lovely room looking out to a waterfall over rock face. Each dish was a work of art and perfectly prepared. Some dishes will challenge you, but the whole idea was to experience a wonderful Japanese experience. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. We recommend Yuzuya Ryokan highly!

Great Service and Wonderful Breakfast”
Being right next to the Yasaka Shrine have its perks. Like other have mentioned if you have heavy luggage, best to walk up the stone steps to notify staff to get them for you. The Japanese breakfast is wonderful and if you stay multiple days it'll change from day to day. The Japanese breakfast is savory with a fish as the main course and other small dishes to accompany the meal.

Unforgettable memory at thislovely Japanese ryokan”
It was my second and my parents' first time visiting Kyoto so I decided to give them a traditional Japanese ryokan experience. That's why we chose to stay at Yuzuya in Gion area. We stayed here for 2 nights with Japanese style breakfast, and had Kaiseki dinner in the evening of our second day in Kyoto. The food was so great and beautifully displayed when they were served one by one. The staff explained the ingredients with fluent English. We had the 10 dishes course during this 3-hour-dinner at Yuzuya. Even my mother-in-low got to enjoy her specially made vegetarian meal (if you know how hard it is to find a vegetarian restaurant in Japan)! This was truly unforgettable wonderful experience for all of us. We will definitely come back to Yuzuya next time we visit Kyoto!

Fantastic service in a great location, loved the bath”
My husband and I treated ourselves to a night at Yuzuya as part of our honeymoon and it didn't disappoint. All staff gave us the level of service you'd expect when paying this price, and they catered to our dietary requirements for the kaiseki dinner without any issues (vegetarian for me, no seafood for my husband) . We both really enjoyed the yuzuya baths and our room was comfortable. The dining room has a lovely outlook onto a garden. The ryokan is next door to Yasaka Shrine in Gion so the location couldn't be much better, and it's not too noisy for it either. The steps leading up to it make you feel like you've discovered a hidden place in the middle of Kyoto. It was a real treat and we'd recommend it to others looking for the same.

Perfect.”
I spent a month researching ryokans and hotels in Kyoto and I'm glad I picked Yuzuya in the end. I wanted my trip to be perfect because it was so precious for me to travel with family. I want to say Thank You to Yuzuya for making the stay delightful. I was concerned with the noise mentioned in some posts, but in the end it did not become a bother. I was lucky to get room Murasaki in the back... Despite there were maybe two or three times that I heard the sound of a siren from the street, it was overall a very tranquil and private experience. The lady served us was nice and friendly. I have to say the whole breakfast dining experience was surreal. A moment of pure sensations and reflections, and the amount of stimulation is just right. We spent two nights in the ryokan and for both days the Japanese breakfast was delicious. If you are looking for a reward for yourself or quality time with your significant person this is the place to enjoy. 非常舒适,一切恰到好处。旅馆比想像的安静。早餐真的是对自己的奖赏。

Beautiful and serene in the middle of Kyoto”
Yuzuya Ryokan has a wonderful staff. The traditional rooms and service definitely met and exceeded our expectations. The kaiseki at the Yuzuya is delicious (with yuzu as their signature flavor) and served with grace and lovely descriptions of the courses. We loved the location, central to the Gion-Shijo station and next door to the Yasaka Shrine. We also loved the overall atmosphere aided by the inner atrium and stone stairs leading up to the entrance (warning: there are more than a few steps up to get to the hotel).

Lovely spot in the city”
I loved staying at the Yuzuya Ryokan. It was very relaxing (although I don't think patrons should be able to talk on their phones in the dining room - my neighbour got two calls during dinner and I found that distracting). Also the food was wonderful. I wish there was enough outside space to sit in the garden but the quietness and view of the courtyard waterfall was really lovely. Also the proximity to Gion was nice for sightseeing.

Very high quality experience - thoroughly splendid. Yuzu delight!”
Stunning Japanese Ryokan nestled next to beautiful park, offers serenity and very high quality seasonal cuisine. The dinner was exquisite in every aspect, including excellent service. Yuzu (citric fruit) inspired theme continues throughout, including the ground-floor spa, and in the food - naturally. Yuzuya Ryokan delivers a high quality Japanese experience, with very comfortable stay and sublime cuisine. Impressed at the support from night-staff when my wife was taken ill. Thank you for your kindness (hope that the team enjoyed the Arabian Dates). Care and attention demonstrated throughout our stay.

Centrally located and yet so tranquil”
It was raining when we arrived in Kyoto and so decided to take a cab to the Ryokan. We were so surprised that it was so centrally located to the shrine and Gion and yet, so tranquil the moment you thread up the stone steps. Staff were friendly, paying attention to every detail. For example, offering us umbrellas as they predicted that it was going to rain in the evening. Breakfast at the Yuzuya was a visual delight in a calm and serene setting. We particularly enjoyed the ambiance and it was all the more special as my fiance decided to propose to me whilst there.

Yuzuya Ryokan”
I thoroughly enjoyed my very relaxing stay at Yuzuya Ryokan. My room was spartan in fine Japanese tradition, and very clean and efficient. The public onsen was very comforting. And, the scenic setting was very peaceful. I also found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. I will definitely plan another trip and stay again at Yuzuya!

Amazing ryokan, had a great stay!”
This is my first time staying at a ryokan, and it was a great experience. Our room rate came with breakfast, and the Japanese breakfast every morning was delicious (they also offer continental breakfast but I recommend the Japanese breakfast unless you are a picky eater). We also had a kaiseki dinner our last night, and it was some of the best food I've ever had. The staff was great, and they do speak limited English. The ryokan is also very centrally located. However, it is not close to Kyoto Station, so we had to take a cab from Kyoto Station to the ryokan. The front doors of the ryokan are not very obvious (one small entrance and a sign), so I definitely recommend you printing out the directions and maybe a picture of the entrance sign.

Serene Ryokan - like stepping into another era. ”
The location of Yuzuya Ryokan was very central and it has a beautiful and serene atmosphere. We were welcomed and helped to our rooms by very attentive staff which were always available. The bedroom was a little drab without a view, however it was extremely clean and the bedding was superbly comfortable. I would recommend it.

Yuzu everything”
Beautiful ryokan, excellent food and service, comfortable rooms. Thank you Yuzuya for looking after us and making our honeymoon a memorable one. I have nothing but praises for this place. My wife and I loved the Kaseiki dinner and the yuzu onsen so much. I would recommend one night here over two nights in a cheaper ryokan. It's really worth the experience.

Very cozy place for staying in Kyoto”
I will highly recommend Yuzuya to my friends if they visit Kyoto since the location as well as the design of room/ hotel itself is really nice. Maybe not all the employee can speak English well but still I can feel the hospitality from each of them. Very cozy place for staying in Kyoto.

Hidden Ryokan in the middle of Magical Gion”
Perched beside a temple in the Gion district, this Ryokan is hidden behind a rocky wall with only a mysterious small door that leads a stony climb. A great Ryokan in Gion, with a very good traditional breakfast offering. The views in the some of the rooms can be a little lacklustre but the Ryokan and it's atrium garden is wonderful.
