An awesome experience-would definitely come back”
After reading the reviews for Zanom, I really expected various things to go wrong, but we ended up having a wonderful time. The resort, as said by others is rustic and people who are after a sterile environment should not stay there. Beach bungalows are lined up so that only the first one in the row overlooks the sea and the rest of beach bungalows are behind, so they only have a view of sandy front yard. There are also garden view bungalows in the next line. We booked a beach view bungalow via Agoda and given the resort had vacancies when we arrived, we got upgraded to the only sea view bungalow the resort holds and the resorts holds exclusive right of selling that one via their website only. The bungalow was just as it appeared in the photos I've seen on Agoda, for the beach bungalow. I read some people were saying there was no hot water in the shower. We had no problem, there was as much hot water as desired. The bathroom has a small unit on the wall, next to the shower, with a button, where people can adjust how hot they like their shower water to be and use it straight away. The problem might have arisen sometime in the past, or during dry season when the resort operates in the full capacity. My impression and recommendation is to visit this island during the wet season as we did, because there will much fewer visitors at the island (and still there are more visitors than, in for exaple Koh Samui or Koh Phi Phi in wet season) and everything would be available just like during dry season (although I also read that we would find a few restaurants only open during wet season, which is totally incorrect, everyone is working in the wet season as well). The main problem is that online weather forecasts for any island in Thailand, if looked at during wet season will show rain all the time, once you arrive to the destination, there is no rain, this was the case with us at Koh Lipe as well as last year in October with Koh Samui. Poorly managed”
Although the staff are very friendly, as most Thai, they lack skill in service and motivation. The staff are also very poor in english which makes simple tasks, as ordering a new set of bedsheets, a challenging task. My stay was during low season, which made the place very quite. This could have been a nice things, having the place almost by our self, if the staff wouldn't have closed up early every evening. Ended up moving to Castaway next door, which is something else entirely (for the same price).

Rats”
I had pack of unopened noodles and a rat ate them during the night. The next night he ate more stuff even though we put it away securely. He also chewed through some of our clothes which are now ruined. We asked the staff if they could discount our stay because of the rat problem but they didn't seem to care. Also there is a big mosquito problem. Other than that it's a good location. The restaurant is very expensive though. So don't stay here if you don't want your stuff ruined by rats.

The bungalows are spacious, with a nice terrace but unfortunately not very clean. the sheets and towels were used and kind of dirty.

central and quiet enough”
Very friendly staff. Many boats lie here (throughout all of sunrise beach), but there is enough room to go into the water and swim. Terrific snorkeling near the two small islands near the beach. You can make a small walk to quieter beaches. Koh Lipe is a bit too crowded with too many motorcycles on the few streets. But many restaurants, shops, diving shops.

Good value for a budget hotel. Rooms are very spacious and right next to the beach. Staff are very helpful and breakfast was great! Would recommend Zanom beach resort!

Family vacation”
We have made a decision to rough it out by staying in a budget hotel and took non-air condition rooms. I read some the reviews made and I would like to point out our observations:: Likes: 1. Safety. You can be assuring when you go about in your leisure time without thinking of losing something important. 2. Warmest. The staff are attentive, helpful nad polite. 3. Taste. Food was great! Mangoes and pineapples were sweet. The local beers were great. 4. Location. I made a correct choice to stay at the sunrise beach. Breezy and cooling. Away from noisy crowded areas like Pattaya Beach area. The beach was just two minutes walk from our rooms. 5. Cooling. The rooms we had did not have air-condition however, it was surprisingly cooling. 6. Serenity. It was break from all our city lives. Just relaxing. 7. Beach. Clean and clear water. Plenty of corals and we watched sunrise. Dislikes: 1. Bathrooms. There was an odour from the bathroom. Somethings cockroaches running around. No instant hot water systems. We had cold showers but we got use to it after a hot day out. 2. Bedrooms. Mosquitos plenty. We did brought along an anti-mozzies spray as a prevention. The hotel did provide mosquito net that you can cover the place. 3. Toiletries. Bring shower gel, shampoos and whatever you need. The hotel do provide them but may not be enough. 4. Pets. There were many dogs around. In fact, the island has many dogs.They were friendly and shouldn't be a show stopper for anyone. 5. Wifi. It could be better if it connects at a higher speed. Anyway, reading a book was better than wifi. we will be returning to this place. Looking forward to that.
