A relaxing, friendly, comfortable, peaceful hotel ”
The hotel is a wonderful hideaway, really an eco-lodge with individual villas, chalet style, in the forest or near the Nam Khan River. What the website does not emphasise is that the Elephant village and the neighbouring village of Xieng Lom are only a half-hour walk away, and that the hotel’s boat (pirogue) can take you in ten minutes to the Tad Sae waterfalls. It was fortunate for us that after the heavy rains in October, the many separate tiers of falls were magnificent, the swimming was great, and rides on the elephants and bathing with the elephants were available. The hotel has a beautiful natural swimming pool overlooking the mountains; you can also wander round the gardens, admiring the many butterflies or sit overlooking life on the river. The hosts, Jean-Luc and Moon are welcoming and informative and the friendly, smiling staff, led by Mr Kham Saen, looked after us very well. Moon is a fantastic cook and serves a wide range of Asian and European dishes cooked to order using fresh produce. The hotel is at the moment twenty minutes from Luang Prabang, not a big deal but next year this should shrink to ten minutes when the road works are finished. We had a marvellous six nights in the Zen Namkhan Boutique Hotel.

Tranquility in the jungle”
After a fairly rocky 45 minute drive from the airport into the mountainous rainforest above Luang Prabang, it was with some trepidation that we arrived at the Zen Namkhan hotel. We needn't have worried: what greeted us was a picture of tranquility. The bar and restaurant boasted a magnificent mountain view and a gorgeous pool. Our family villa was fairly basic, but very comfortable and again delivered amazing views of the jungle canopy, complete with all the sounds of nature. Dinner and breakfast offered a range of options and were very tasty. Through the hotel we could arrange a boat trip to a local elephant sanctuay and waterfall - one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life! The staff were attentive and friendly, and contributed in no small part to a completely peaceful, exciting and unforgettable stay.

Relaxed experience”
we enjoyed zen namkhan for its relaxed and peaceful environment and good service. the resort is located around 30 km from luang prabang, in the middle of nature. they have good food and even have a natural swimming pool. i recommend to combine it with staying a few days in the town of luang prabang, as it will offer you two very different experiences.

A slice of heaven ”
Zen Namkhan is one of those places that you almost want to keep a secret, because it is so beautiful. With an infinity pool overlooking out onto the jungle and the hills behind, it is the most magical place to watch a sunrise or sunset. So much love and attention has been put into the design of the property, and it is perfectly remotely tucked away for a peaceful relaxing holiday, without the noise and bustle of the city. The staff are ever attentive and the food is also very good also. Could have imagined staying anywhere nicer in Luang Prabang. Thank you

A perfect place for relaxation”
We had a great time at Zen Namkhan. When we first had a look at the view from the main building we were simply stunned and stayed there looking at the mountains for a few hours. The location is simply incredible. The hotel is situated on the banks of the Namkhan river and surrounded by the jungle and mountains. There are plenty of activities to do around, like the elephant village, waterfalls, kayaking, etc. Also, it is a great place to be lazy, read a book and jump in the natural pool while enjoying the view. Additionally, the staff is great and really friendly, and they even have the nicest labrador. The only caveat was the transport which has to be covered by the client if you do not book on the hotel's website.

Very, very beautiful, but lacks good management.”
We had a great time at Zen Namkhan, except for when we got the bill. 80 dollars for 8 kg of laundry (in town it's 1 dollar per kg), while we got it back... ruined. Bleach stains everywhere. Also, our bill wasn't correct, they charged us too much and there was some sort of misunderstanding (on their part) about our booking and the price of the room. All these misunderstanding made checking out really uncomfortable and it left a bad taste in our mouths... But still: it's a really lovely place with friendly staff and beautiful surroundings. All they need is an experienced manager and it will be one of the best places to stay whem visiting Luang Prabang ( which is 13 km/30 minutes by car from the resort).

An unforgettable experience!”
Don't miss an opportunity to spend a few days at Zen Namkhan. Imagine sitting on your balcony at sunset listening to elephants trumpeting as they are taken across the river to the jungle for the night. The facilities and landscaping are beautiful, the food is delicious, and the staff work very hard to make sure you want for nothing. If you can, book a villa with outdoor shower overlooking the Namkhan river.

True Zen experience”
After first shock of the distance from Luang Prabang (13km), in a remote mountain area, we enjoyed and really liked the stay in the resort. This is not a hotel for those want to stay in the city, this is a hotel for those who enjoy beautiful nature and quiet nights. The city is cca 25 mins van-ride, or one can rent a scooter or even a bike - the hotel organizes a transportation on demand. The main advantages are closeness of the elephant village (walking distance), closeness of trekking and cayaking options - all provided by the hotel management) and - once again - unique location with spacy bungalows surrounded by jungle.

Lovely resort in the middle of nature.”
we very much enjoyed our stay at the resort. it is quiet and peaceful and beautifully designed. the staff is extremely friendly and helpful, you feel well taken care of. it is a place to relax although there is enough to do close to the resort - elephant village, waterfall, jungle trekking. if you mainly want to do sightseeing in luang prabang, however, you can better take a hotel in town as this resort is located 15 km outside of town. the rooms were beautifully designed but a bit chilly at night ( we were there in the cold season) and the water in the natural pool, with fish, was also quite cold. the restaurant is lovely, the food is fine. overall: if you don't like to be close to nature and all its animals, you better go somewhere else.

Magic in the Luang Prabang Mountains”
We loved our romantic stay at Zen Namkhan and would heartily recommend to couples, groups or families. We loved the infinity pool, and savoured the delicious food while soaking up some Frank Sinatra in the background. Luke is a great host, sharing his stories over a cocktail or two. We will return for sure, next time with the whole family... and stay longer! Thankyou.

Relaxing, quiet jungle stay, fantastic surrounds”
A change of pace from Luang Prabang township & yet so close. Much thought has gone into the overall layout of the resort & its rooms. Very friendly staff & owner, excellent service. Fantastic landscaping & excellent pool, wonderfully located restaurant with great food. We would recommend this resort to everyone. For something different - spend a night here!

Beautiful, secluded setting”
As some other reviewers have mentioned, the location of this resort is totally stunning. Our villa overlooked the Namkhan River, and we loved sitting on the patio and watching boats go by and admiring the mountains. You will definitely get privacy and space here as the villas are very spread out across the hill. The staff were extremely accommodating and helpful. We loved the french pressed coffee. The yellow lab is quite possibly the cutest, friendliest dog. Potential guests should be advised that getting to and from the resort is tricky unless the staff picks you up because of construction on the very muddy road. But this is no problem because they have a truck and can pick you up/drop you off for a reasonable fee.

Wonderful resort outside town”
We loved this resort about 40 min away by tuk tuk, and 25 min away by car. Had one of their new "honeymooners" villa with view over namkhan river. Really private and quite an adventure to get there. Had the best food over there, try the laap here! We did a day of trekking to a village and tad sae waterfall nearby and kayaking down namkhan river the next! You can even see elephants and locals going about their work on the way! Beautiful.... we enjoyed the hot japanese bath at their new spa everyday!

Rustic beauty with 5 star quality”
Zen was exactly what I wanted: isolated, intimate, rustic. I've stayed at five star resorts around the world but Zen's charming layout took my breath away. My double room faced the jungle whereas the villas looked out to river. Spread over a large area, I explored from one end to another, either trekking down to the Japanese steam bath or across the bamboo bridge that cuts through the jungle. For the four days I stayed there, not once did I venture back to town, I stayed in and spoiled myself with the cook's Laotian dishes. I'm looking forward to my next stay at Zen.

Exquisite mountain hideaway - HEAVEN!”
This place is absolute HEAVEN! From the moment you arrive you feel like you step into another world... Just outside of Luang Prabang I would definitely recommend staying for at least 2 nights. Staff were friendly and helpful, food was incredible! Views, views and more views. Fantastic Yoga area and lemongrass scented steam room after a long day trekking was divine.

A charming place ”
The place and surroundings are fantastic, is one of the most beautiful that I have ever seen probably. The resort is beautifully decorated: rustic and respect the nature of environment. It is not a typical resort and you should not expect certain things like a chemical swimming pool or do not see insects. This is a particular place. The location is perfect if you are looking for something in the midst of the nature. There are activities to do like trekking, there are a couple of nice villages, you can visit the elephant village as well and more. If you are looking for something where to spend your time in luang Prabang city it is obvious, this is not the place. Some of the areas could be more accurate like the library. Cleaning can be improved and the mattress could be more comfortable. Breakfast could be better too but the food at the restaurant it was super delicious. I suggest the pork green curry.

Laid-Back and peaceful”
This hotel is about 30 km outside of Luang Prabang, right along the river. I did nothing while I was here, as that is what I needed at the time. It was peaceful, relaxing and a beautiful place to be, which is just what I was looking for. The owners and manager are mellow folks, who take care of their customers.

Beautiful natural location on the riverbank”
We stayed with our family of 4 in the family villa. We very much enjoyed the special dinner that was arranged for Christmas eve. The area offers the elephant centre within less than an hour walk. It can also be reached by boat in a few minutes. The other attraction are the Tad Sae waterfalls, that are only accessible by boat. If you do not have your own transportation, then the location of the resort might be a bit too remote if you are looking for many things to do. The location of the resort is about 15km from Luang Prabang. The views from the villa balcony were awesome, and we really enjoyed soaking up the sun in the afternoon watching the sun go down.

Lovely Hotel and Service with A Smile”
I cannot say enough good things about this resort. initially, we thought it was a little far from town and a huge portion of the path leading to the resort is still under construction so that put us off a bit. BUT I was and still am very glad that we made it there because it is sooooo worth it! it's breathtakingly beautiful. we felt relaxed almost instantly the minute we stepped in. the resort staff were all kind, attentive and smiley. so was the dog, Copain. she's such a warm and playful dog. haha. after enjoying our welcome drinks, we were led to our bungalow, Harmonie. it was nice of the staff to help out with our luggage. the room's everything we thought it would be and MORE! we enjoyed the view and peace and the starry night and had hot tea to warm up. oh the stars looke so bright that night! we had fresh spring rolls for supper and we must say they were the best spring rolls we have tried during our Laos trip! my craving is all back as I type this haha we had simple yet delicious breakfast by the ecological pool (impressive!) the next morning. and also play time with Copain. haha. took a walk around the resort and were completely in awe with the natural beauty all around. you guys did a great job preserving and conserving the surroundings. please keep it up! and being my forgetful self, I left my backpack that stored all our important travel documents. I was a little devastated with myself when I realized that and it was too late 'cause we were already back in town centre! thankfully enough, the hotel owner and manager made some arangement to deliver my bag to me in a matter of two hours only! I would like to mention special thanks to who rode his motorbike all the way to town to pass my bag to the receptionist of my guesthouse. he was even sweet and accountable enough to give me a call to make sure that I have received it. this is what I would call as superb, impeccable service. thank you so muuuuch!
