The only thing good about this accommodation was that it was on the beach. The sheets were stained and had holes in it. There were holes in the wall and there was no point in using the mosquito net as it didn't even cover the bed, and had more holes in it than a slice of swiss cheese. They switched the wifi off most of the day and didn't give us breakfast even when we showed them that we had paid extra for it.
a spot on spot right on the beach. Sarath, the governor, is a lovely guy. The staff too are sweet, friendly, pleasant and helpful. great grub. rooms are spartan but just to crash in. i did get a bit sick of the one cd playing over and over (clashing and cacophonic with the perennial reggae from next door). more music maestro please.
Avoid avoid avoid. ”
We are budget travellers and are used to staying at average, basic accommodation. We've had our fair share of 'nightmare' hotels, but we have NEVER stayed such a horrific place.
Let's start with the room. Firstly, it looks like a prison cell; suits cut out of the wall with no windows. One creepy light. Spiders, crabs and insects infest the room. Towels which haven't been washed for ages - black streaks on them?! The sheets had holes and stains, and were horribly dirty. The bathroom was awful, horror movie stuff.
The owner also seemed to make up prices and refused some people breakfast even though they had paid for it in advance.
The only positive is the location, which is great and on the beach.
Amazing location but that's about it”
Having come from Mirissa and Unuwatuna where we paid the same price for similar hotels, I was extremely disappointed in this place. It was absolutely filthy- the floors, the wardrobes, the bathroom (which wouldn't even close) and alongside that the room was absolutely boiling even with the fan on. The people there were really sweet but unfortunately that didn't make up for it. The only good thing was that we only booked one night. Way over priced! Found a great little place about 5 hotels down the beach for less than a third the price.
Excellent value for money ”
Location, staff and food
Previous reviews were wrong. The rooms, whilst in dire need of a good lick of paint, were spacious. The food was cheap and the staff couldn't do enough. Stayed for 3 nights. Right on the beach. Free wifi, sun beds and safety deposit box. Well worth £16.61 which included breakfast (full English or local).
A total NIGHTMARE!”
it was horrible. nothing worked properly: fan, shower, electricity. No wifi in the room.
Towles and sheets very smelly.
staff was very unhelpful.
Breakfast was not good either.
The hotel is in a bad shape in general.
It was just very annoying and we couldnt cancel the prepaid nights. Still we left having paid already.
Refrain from booking it!
Perfect! Great value for money.”
Great location right on the beach, excellent good and cocktails, very friendly staff
Our stay at Golden Sand Beach Hotel was wonderful. The location is amazing - you couldn't ask for anything better! The burgers and the grilled prawns we had for dinner were delicious. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was very basic but functional and clean. Enjoying the 2 for 1 cocktails out on the beach lounges from 4-6pm as the sun set was an awesome experience in itself. I would definitely recommend staying here and hope to return one day!
The staff were really friendly, the location anazing and the young chef was brilliant
My stay was fantastic, drinking a beer and eating the nicest home made curry whilst watching the sun set. Paradise
On the beach. Friendly staff. Food & drink very good.
