What was booked through Agoda didn’t match what the hotel offered.
There are a lot of good things about this place - the staff were mostly friendly and the food was good - but it seems like a lot is hidden and made me feel like I was being ripped off. Prices listed on their website are apparently outdated, so everything costs more than expected. When I pointed this out, their response seemed to be to dig their heels in and I was left feeling a bit foolish. I had clarified about the airport shuttle I believed to be included in the price of the room (as this was in the website) and was not told until the next morning that it would cost $23 (US). I had taken an Uber Pool from the airport the day before for 36 solles (about $12US). This lead to an awkward and long conversation with a lot of bartering; it didn't feel like they were trying to help me, it felt like they were trying to get as much money as they could.
I had no hot water in my room the whole time, and they said they'd make me an early bfast (since I'd miss the continental), but didn't. :(
nice hotel ”
cleanliness, friendly staff, breakfast
It was a nice hotel, even if it would not be a 5-star hotel in european standard. Breakfast was nice, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Safe, good decoration
Set in a safe area, it was a really quite location. Good breakfast. The enclosed private courtyard had good food and a bar. Decoration in the room was fun and the place was clean. Couldn't get wifi in room. Didn't use the pool as it rained! Only 10 soles in taxi to miraflores and Plaza de Armas. Would definitely recommend.
Great hotel ... Horrible booking company”
The room, the location, the staff
Hotel was awesome, ag o da sucks .... I will never book anything with this service ever again... The apartment we had was great! Ag o da did a classic bait and switch. Cheapest when we looked most expensive when we booked... The room had 2 bedrooms a living/dining room and a small but very adequate kitchen, and with plenty of bodegas and a Vivandi supermarket within walking distance this was awesome. Especially when my wife's family (a native of peru) came to visit.
The staff was very friendly and helpful, and they allowed my wife's nieces to come over and use the pool, which is in a beautiful well maintained courtyard.
The included breakfast was very nice and served outside in a separate, very nice courtyard..
I would definitely go back here!
A go da, however I will never use again, they added 10%. Service fee that I did not see until seconds after I booked.. When I tried to cancel, it did not allow me.. Also charged 18%tax that foreign tourists are supposed to be exempt from... So while they quoted around $70/night... It actually cost $100/ night
Overrated and a rip off!!”
Most hotels will come and pick you up for free and if its not the case, a reasonable fare is charged. As an example, from Cuzco to Ollanta (1 hr 40min) was S100 or $37. In our case, we were charged $20 for pickup and $20 for drop-off for a 20 min ride. Explain that!
The internet works in certain areas of the hotel only.
The blow dryier didnt work and no staff assisted.
The price of this room was overpriced for what you are paying for.
A side from that, going up the stairs is a hazard if you are not paying any attention.
I doubt the reviews of this hotel are honest as we have seen it first hand.
Lovely decor & friendly staff in a quiet area”
Good attached restaurant, nice and quiet at night
We had 3 stays in 2 rooms; both were in good condition, upgrade to grand standard is not worth it.
Free wifi is available but terrible reception. Internet to computer in lounge room is intermittent at best.
Be aware the hotel is not sign posted and you need to press the buzzer to be let in. Also, most taxi drivers do not know the street it is on; stock up on business cards - which have an (upside down) mini map on them - and get a full map from reception.
Staff are always very friendly & helpful. Reception speaks English 95% of the time.
They're trustworthy (we had them watch our bags several times and nothing was stolen) but the man who has a southern USA accent at reception (Marco) was more enthusiastic than reliable; a simple example is that we asked him to reserve us a table at a restaurant, and despite lots of "yes sir, right away, sir" and later being told that it was done, the restaurant had no table for 2 under any name at the time we requested. These were not the only issues, but I'm not saying he was incompetent; he found us another hotel and got us a discount.
Better to book with Agoda if you need flexibility; if you don't, for the price of a 25% non-refundable deposit you get a free breakfast (fresh bread rolls, jam, eggs, fruit salad and a hot drink) and a slightly cheaper room if you book on the hotel's site directly.
Prices at the hotel are in Soles, but the hotel will charge you in dollars. It's best to pay cash with U.S. dollars as this gets you a 5% discount. If you pay by card, they will apply a 1 USD = 2.8 Soles (aka PEN) exchange rate because you pay in Soles on the eftpos machine (actual exchange is closer to 2.7).
Laundry service is per item, not per kilo; a bit on the expensive side, but everything came back clean and undamaged.
Do not drink the tap water.
10 mins walk away is a grocery store, and a further 5 minutes is a Wongs (the Walmart equivalent), so get your water from there. 15 litres is about 5 USD.
