Although this hotel is probably at the more expensive end of many places in Hikkaduwa it was worth it. It has a lovely pool and is right on the beach Our room was on the top floor and had with a lovely view. The room was spacious and had good facilities in the room with a large comfortable bed. Although we thought the provision of a bath/jacuzzi was unnecessary. The shower is perfectly adequate. Great breakfasts. Very good and helpful staff. It was in a quiet location towards the edge of town. We enjoyed walking along the beach to other places for lunch and dinner every day. Would definitely recommend this hotel as a great place to stay
Beautiful boutique hotel with very nice staff!”
Located in the quieter area of the beach makes the location perfect, only a few minutes walk to the bars and restaurants. Nice and helpful staff! Would love to come back!
Nice and friendly ”
If you are looking for a get a way is the prefer place to be in
Lovely hotel with a great pool on a gorgeous beach just a few minutes ride in a tuk tuk to central h”
We had a room with a spa bath on the second floor which was incredibly spacious and extremely clean. The hotel only has 6 rooms so you hardly see any other guests. The pool is fabulous and right on the beach. There are bars within walking distance on the beach and central hikkaduwa is only a couple of mins in s tuk tuk or a 15 min walk. The staff are so friendly. Would highly recommend.
Best in SL! And so exclusive with just 6 rooms”
We needed a relaxed holiday, so booked 4 nights at Roman Beach Hotel and got exactly that. Situated right on the beach and on the periphery of the busy restaurant/bar area (although, it wasn't too far so we could go on a nice walk along the beach to venture out should we decide to), the hotel was quiet and felt secluded. There are only 6 rooms so it wasn't crowded, and the staff were so friendly and helpful. The food was great and the rooms were awesome, and overlooking the pool and beach. We are already planning out trip back!!!
Location, comfort, quiet beach
Great small hotel on a quiet part of the beach. Comfortable rooms and a great soundscape at night.
Beautiful hotel that was perfect for some downtime”
cleanliness, food and location
We loved the food here and was so happy to find a quiet place to relax by the beach. I love the design and it was situated on a great beach. Loved the pool
Lovely Hotel on the Beachfront”
Fantastic Food, Location, Modern & Clean
We stayed at Roman Beach for 4 nights in August and loved it. Located right on the beachfront, and with a lovely pool area. The room was fantastic. Lovely, modern, clean & stylish, and a balcony overlooking the pool and beach area. Go for the rooms with the jacuzzi, they're great, with a glass window which looks into the bedroom and out to the ocean. The food was the highlight. The chef met us a couple of times over dinner. The Sri Lankan prawn curry was to perfection and beautifully presented. I actually had this twice in the 4 nights. Every meal I had was really tasty. The breakfast was also really good. I know they still don't have a liquor license, but that is absolutely no problem. A very short tuk tuk ride, or you can even walk, to the bottle shop outlet located on the main street. So you can buy what you want at reasonable prices and the hotel staff will serve at dinner or where ever you want. And you just store it in your fridge. Don't let the no license thing put you off. We were just about the only guests there, so the place was to ourselves. Which is kind of good, but you feel like you are rattling around inside the hotel. The staff were great, looking after us, like you're friend or family. Only little thing is getting tonic or soda water to mix with our spirits, took for ages, and sometimes the bottles were warm, not refrigerated. Only other little downfall, which is not to do with the hotel, but the weather in August is not great on the west side. Stick to the south, and east, and hills, etc. We had quite a few downfalls and the wind! The hotel is also in a good location, just enough out of the busy tourist area. And for an interesting, fun little trip, go to the turtle hatchery up the coast.
Breakfast, bathroom and good view
Nice, too experienced on oct
Nice beach, quiet and peaceful.
We had a really nice, relaxing time here.
Perfect stay (4 nights)”
The view from the hotel, the food they served and the quality and kindnes of the staff.
After a week and a half of driving and sightseeing we wanted a luxurios and relaxing place to stay before we headed home. This place certainly forfiled that criteria.
The staff were well traind and very kind.
The food was so good we pretty much had all our meals there.
The rooms were big, clean, comfortable and with a view over the pool and beach.
The price was high but well worth it.
You feel at home there and and didnt want to leave:)
The town isnt much, very touristy.
The beach was very wide with beautifull sand and because of the hotels location not to many people. Fun water but also very rough so i wouldent recomend the place for weak swimmers but the hotels pool is very nice and i noticed it go cleaned every morning.
A hotel perfect for a relaxing timeout:)
location, service, and comfort.
We loved our stay here. The facility was very comfortable, and it opened up onto the beach exactly like we wanted. We also enjoyed the food. They also provided transportation from Colombo for a fee. The only downsidesvwere that the fee for our one year old's extra bed was pretty steep compared to what we've paid elsewhere in the region and the WiFi wasn't reliable to the top floor. Those however aren't enough to prevent us from staying there again. We really appreciated the excellent service, location, small size of the hotel, and that the staff was great with our child. The pool was also great. We were sad to leave.
impersonal, inconsiderate, ghastly experience”
polite staff, beachfront location, decent rooms
i have absolutely no idea why anyone would give this place a 5 star rating. here were the issues:
restaurant - no crew standing by to serve you. prices were exorbitant for the food quality. extremely understaffed restaurant and service was very slow.
bedroom - we had to ask four times before they gave us a remote control. stained sheets. this was feedback i read from a fellow guest in this hotel. the resort did nothing about the feedback because we too found stained bed linens in our room. our used bath towels were taken by housekeeping but they did not replace them with fresh ones. and the biggest disappointment, the hotel refused to refund our second night stay. agoda called the hotel and asked that they issue the refund but the hotel refused. we had a personal matter to attend to the following day and needed to return to colombo urgently. we were forced to stay the second day and manage our issue remotely so that we didn't have to waste money. safety hazard - it rained hard the second night and in the morning when i walked down to the restaurant, i slipped due to a huge puddle of water right inside the hotel lobby. i asked the guy cleaning the pool why there was water and he said it had rained last night. i asked why it had not been dried yet when the restaurant was already open for breakfast. he just said ok sorry and when i returned 20 minutes later the water was still there. poor attention to detail. absence of a hotel manager which is dreadfully disappointing. every resort should give the customer a refund if asked. by doing this, you are showing the customer that you are not desperate to take their money and instead value their satisfaction and experience more than making a buck. i will not return to roman beach hotel nor will i recommend it to any of my friends in sri lanka and the philippines.
Stunning Hotel with Beautiful Rooms”
Gorgeous Rooms, Excellent Staff, Fantastic Food
We only stayed here for one night sadly, this hotel is beautifully decorated and the staff are excellent. There are only 6 rooms, we had the emperor suite which was outstanding. You can sit in the jacuzzi bath and look out at the beach. Also waking up in the morning the view of the ocean is right in front of your bed. We never went back out of the hotel once we arrived we had everything we needed. We took breakfast, lunch and dinner here and they were all fantastic. The sri lankan curry was so fresh and delicious, the best we had in Sri Lanka and there are lots of fresh juices. The beach in front is mostly eroded and you cant go onto it but you dont need it there is a beautiful pool with loungers. This hotel is worth the money, I really cant think of anything bad to say about it!
An awespme hotel”
The staff, the location and the quality of the services
From the first email about our booking to the whole staff coming to wave us Goodbye, we absolutely loved Roman Beach. Chamara, the General Manager, Kumar in the restaurant and Kalu the tuktuk driver made us feel like we were the only guests in the Hotel. The attention to detail & always meeting & exceeding our needs & expectations was amazing nd we felt truly at home. My Birthday was a lovely candlelit affair, with sushi, lobster thermidor and champagne with the Indian Ocean waves in the background. A gorgeous handmade birthday cake, flower petals and balloons on our bed were such unexpected kindnesses. Such wonderful kindness and the quality of the services made this one of our most memorable holidays we have ever had and we have fallen in love with Sri Lanka, Hikkaduwa and the wonderful Roman Beach Hotel. Book your holiday today and you won't be disappointed.
