Lack of management and no interaction with the guests on arrival”
The location is lovely but there is a distinct lack of management or supervision of the staff. Our room was locked on arrival because the cleaning lady had taken the key home and there was no towels or drinking water in the room. The description of the property states bottled water in each room which never was the case. Both my husband and I got sick - we gather it was from the water served at the entrance in a jug that we had to help ourselves from. On another day, the cleaning lady didn't do the room at all (bed, towels, dirty cups still lying on the table). We accepted to recycle water and to shower with big plastic buckets and on the last day the small one was gone so we couldn't flush with it. There was no hot water in the basin. The pillows were old and either tough and solid or lumpy, breakfast had stale croissants and margarine with no butter.
It is a lovely looking property but really run down with almost a different staff at reception every day and the owner not involved.

Wonderful Cape Town Stay”
We had a very good room at Greenways, with a very comfortable bed, large, well appointed bathroom (which had underfloor heating). Whole building reflected the gracious living of a previous era. Gated security and extensive garden setting meant peace and quiet. The breakfasts were fresh quality foods, prepared to order and delicious. However, conversion to self catering style is under way, but not when guests staying. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Greenways, which was the start of our holiday in South Africa.

Enjoyable after a shaky start”
staff friendliness, quiet, garden
The garden rooms we had booked were occupied on our arrival and we spent the first night in a room overlooking the balcony of an adjacent room and the car park. The next morning we were moved to a better room, only to find that we couldn't shower as there was no water. The situation was later sorted out with the friendly help of the owner and staff, but no thanks to the owner's surly daughter who was overheard by my husband to say "Well, I hope she doesn't expect us to move her to ANOTHER room!" The rest of the staff excelled, however. Unfortunately the hotel feels a little tired and empty; it feels as though its heyday happened a while ago.
