The place is perfect since it's in the heart of GL. When you step out of the hotel you are immediately immersed in the bright lights of Siargao. Just across the road is a bulaloan. Definitely worth your money. One thing I could suggest in their group rooms the bed had no railings on the side for the double-deck beds, the guests sleeping at the top bunk might fall anytime if they don't mind their sleeping positions, but all in all the place is great, you have your own hammock outside your kubo, which I really liked!
It's close to everything. Easy access to food, nice places, friendly staff, etc. It would be better if private rooms would also have private CR and shower room.
Kokai is a small resort on Tourist Road which connects downtown General Luna with the famous Cloud 9 surfing area. There’re lots of restaurants nearby. The resort itself offered no breakfast or other food; it has no seaview and is a short walk from the beach; and the washroom and shower was located outside our cottage and shared with another cottage. But staff the cottage was quite cozy with good aircon, staff was friendly, and the cost very economical for this area.
Its location is very near to the center of General Luna. The only downside is there was no available wifi inside the room.
The room has a double bed and a LOFT WITH TWO SINGLE MATTRESSES. However, the rate does not cover 4 guests. It’s only good for 2. We were asked to pay an extra 1000 pesos/night. No restaurants/bars on site. CURTAINS were used as bed sheets. Take your money somewhere else.
i really like the inspiration of the kubos. the staffs are kind too. the location is along the hiway where you can find food stalls. however, the sink and the cr are clogged. so you have to wait some time to let the water go down.
Small resort well located in the center of General Luna. Staff were friendly but the room was a bit old and had some ants issues. We paid 50usd/night for a standard room which we believe was too high compared to other accommodations in the neighborough.
We've been going to Siargao for almost 10 years now and have stayed with groups at numerous places around the island. Not only is Kokai a fantastic resort with clean and comfortable rooms, but Sandy, Am, Theresa and the rest of the crew at Kokai really make the effort to make your stay special. Personal friendly service, helpful staff and good conversation are all part of the package at Kokai. Whether you are travelling solo, with a friend or in a group, Kokai has great facilities for your stay and awesome knowledge of the island and all it has to offer. Can't recommend them more! Great location with proximity to restaurants and far enough from the noise from clubs. No bed bugs is a huge plus... but you get a basic 4 inch foam mattress; it’s comfortable enough though. What appeared to be black mold in the bathroom. The shower curtain was pretty disgusting and should have been replaced long ago. The pillow cases were clean, thankfully, but the pillows were stained. The fan was perfect to keep us cool. We chose it over the AC which worked fine.
Its nice. But better if there is a private bath or at least a direct door to the bathroom from the room. Quite inconvenient going out of the room to go to the toilet esp when showering. They dont clean your room too, (only the outside of the bungalow) but you can sweep the floor yourself just ask for a broom. Very friendly owner. We were welcomed nicely and their staff are friendly and approachable.
Kokai was very accommodating, all the staff were super nice!! most specially amaar and carol! they were the best! i was able to meet the owner too. They always ask you about where you will go, or about your activities for the day, and they give you traveling advice too! everyone was extra friendly, Kokai became my home away from home! i would most definitely go back! I stayed last January 12-15.
We stayed for five days. The staff and owner were great. They gave us suggestions on what to do and where to eat. Would recommend this resort if you are looking for a central place in town. We had a great time and will stay here again if we go back.

They dont serve much food unlike other restaurants. They serve their breakfast for only 1 hour then they dont offer other variety of foods. Rooms are ok ,they dont have tv on it. Comfort rooms are clean.

The staff is very accomodating and friendly they will tell you tips to travel and how to save money while in siargao, i will definitely go back and stay there, much better if open na ung resto by 6.30 or 7am for breakfast as the restaurants around the area opens at around 8-9am. but it is not really a big deal.

Their price was cheaper compared to other resorts in the area but the rooms are badly maintained and have a foul odor. I do not recommend this place.
My wallet eas stolen , out side my room, there was only the staff aloud, no body really cared when it happened. The water in the shower small like garbage and its eas not posible to control the hit. No cleaning was done. The room is nice, big. No atmosphere.not a good menu, drinks are more expensive then outside

The resort is very accessible since it is only less than 100 meters away from the main road of General Luna. It is of close proximity to recommended restaurants and only 1 tricycle ride away from Cloud 9. The room was decent and clean. The bathroom drain had the tendency to clog, but it wasn't that bad for a one night stay. If you are looking for a budget friendly resort, Kokai is worth trying.
Water stinks. One of the staffs is unfriendly and very rude. They should be more open to customer complaints and improve the water lines. I will not definitely promote their hotel to my friends. One more thing, there is a cockroach in the room.

Thank you Kokai Resort for an overall relaxing stay with you. Value For Money: We stayed for 2 nights in a "kubo"/nipa hut style standard room for PHP 2,877.00 only. It's a pretty good catch for us! Location: Kokai Resort is 7-10 minutes away from Cloud 9 ( famous surfing spot in Siargao) via tricycle/habal habal. It's walking distance to famous restaurants such as La Carinderia, Kermit Restaurant, Mama's Grill, Altrove, Illy, Sushi Nori, some Vegan restos, hangout/party bars, etc. But if you're on a tight budget, no worries cos affordable carinderia and bakeshops are also near the resort. Cleanliness: We arrived in our room with clean towels and sheets. Staff: Staff are very accommodating. We're really glad that they allowed us to check-in at 11am although check-in time is 1pm. They also arranged the van transfer to airport for us. Facilities - The resort doesn't have swimming pool, gym, kids' playroom, etc. but duuuuhh! you're in Siargao, you don't need those. Explore, enjoy and feel the island vibe! PS. We're Frankie the doggo is so cuuute and nice. Thank you, Kokai! We hope to be back real soon.
Pros: good location, restaurants & eateries are just nearby. good AC in the room, comfortable bed. staffs offered tips on how to visit some tourists spots on a budget/DIY tour instead of signing up for tour package which can get really expensive. staffs were polite and courteos. basic toiletries were provided. Cons: restaurant was closed during our stay due to lean month/off-peak season. bathroom/comfort room is outside and shared with other guests. Bed pillows were quite hard, not really comfortable to sleep on. no TV inside the room. wifi connection quite unstable.
Friendly staff
I write true story in Kokai resort. When I was talking other women traveler, Swiss owner joined the conversation very rudely and took my smartphone from my hand very violently. He said " Thank you, This Huawai samrtphone is better than apple or samsung, This is mine!" My smartphone was stolen by Kokai owner. Somehow, I took back my smartphone from him and I said " You like joke" then he said No, I am not kidding!" After this , still other women traveler approach me to talk about my country but this swiss owner made laptop music very loudly and broke our conversation. Other day , he also shouted " your foot was very dirty " when I am back to dormitory from surfing. Mosquito net was broken and I was worrying about misquote all night. I do not recommend this resort for anyone.
Dear Taro, just read your story a big joke,, about your phone remember i ask you what model is it as i have almost same, i joke to you when i said thank, than we together took pict with our respective phone and we had fun to compare the diff of quality, so why to act and talk about it like this,,, about our guest we are cool peoples and make joke with them, about your foot i just inform you that we just install a shower next the entry of the dorm in order for our guest to wash them sand or dirt out before entering the property and they all appreciate it. If your mosquito net was ripped why not just inform us we have plenty spare we could adjust it right away,,, we just don't understand your strange reaction after all and we were kind with you during your stay, help you with you need and also try to organize trip with other guest in order for you not to be alone,, We are deeply sad to hear you misunderstood the whole as guest satisfaction is our priority , Sincerely Sandy the owner

a little more information to guide your first time guest would add value as i have said to them i do not know any place to visit as it is our first time in Siargao. since nothing was mentioned we have wasted few hours on our first day only to find out that Cloud 9 was just nearby just a trike ride away :( when we requested if we can borroe spoon and fork, we were told initially that the owner does not allow it but after a few negotiation, we were able to borrow - the reason why we borrowed is their restaurant no longer entertain getting orders and since we arrive at the resort past 3pm and have still not had our lunch we were forced to go out to buy and for dinner, instead of going out again we opted just to buy and have them at the resort. aircon - would appreciate if instead of window type aircon - split type would make the room colder especially during day time instead of using using the ceiling fan same time. The room is quite big so the aircon currently installed isnt sufficie
Cleanliness in the cottage room was lacking, towels & sheets were stained & the bathroom was outside the room & shared with another cottage. Not good value for money!
Friendly staff The water has an unpleasant smell at first use, but they amazingly clean the area. They clean the bed and the room daily even without instructions from guest. Best Location to stay in General Luna Spacious parking space for bikes Will surely book again in the future.

I had the best time staying in Kokai resort. The staff was very welcoming and accommodating, so was the owner of the resort. On the last day just before my flight I had a heat stroke and they made everything needed to organize transfer to the hospital and then to the airport. I stayed in the dorm room and had a chance to meet a lot of travelers. It also felt very safe. The rooms have been cleaned every day, the bathroom and the toilets were always clean as well. I had daily breakfasts there, as the food was tasty with good variety. I’d strongly recommend this resort and would surely be back myself.

From owner of the resort to the front desk staff were very welcoming & we felt like staying at home. We just stayed for a night but would definitely love to stay here again next time.
. I tried checking in to other hotel during my trip to Siargao other hotel has a clean and odorless water. I will not recommend this place for friends and others. Room is just ok.

Had a great time in Siargao and enjoyed my stay at Kokai Resort. The owner Sandy, his fiancé and staff were very friendly and helpful and made me feel right at home. Wish I could have stayed there longer.

Sorry it took us so long to write a review! We had an amazing stay at Kokai Resort. The owner Sandy was friendly and super accommodating! We booked everything through Sandy (day trips, transportation), and if he wasn't around, Gail (owner) was always there if we needed anything. The bungalow itself was huge! Could easily fit 5. Although Wifi wasn't available in the room, it would reach our deck so we could sit on the patio at any time to use it. Bathroom was clean, as well as the bungalow. The aircon was pretty good and would cool the whole place down. The beach that it's located on isn't the best for swimming but is nice to stroll on. Located close to a popular disco, 20 min walk to cloud 9, and 5 minute walk to mama's grill (popular bbq joint). Transportation can be easily arranged for anywhere you need to go. Motorcycles are also available for rent on request. If you're looking to stay in an affordable place and aren't too picky about being so close to cloud 9, then this is your place! The staff are super friendly and accommodating and the bungalows are private and clean. Location + near cloud 9, boulevard and other restaurants - the beach front is not suitable for swimming you have to walk further near Isla Cabana or the cemetery Staff + they always acted fast when we requested for something - I don't exactly like very bubbly and energetic employees but a little warmness would have been nice, they were all straight faced throughout our stay - During the boat ride to Siargao, we met a boatman who offers island hopping tours so we agreed to go with him already. When we arrived at the resort, the staff offered a boat for island hopping so we said we already have, then one staff said that IT IS NOT ALLOWED to book with other boats. Since we our staying at their hotel we SHOULD book them because they can't be responsible for us if they don't know the boatman. I understand her reason but THE WAY she told us was awkward because she was IRRITATED and she REPRIMANDED us for not booking with them. In the end she said it is up to us but the damage has been done so to speak. Facilities + 24 hours front desk and staff - they closed the restaurant because it is not peak season (which I understand) but it would have been nice not to walk further or take a habal just to eat a meal Others + wifi was fast + interior and exteriors was good - The water in the bathroom smells of metal which was a bit disgusting and the drainage was also a problem, after taking a bath your feet will be soaked already - our door cannot be locked so EVERYTIME we would go out we would ask the staff to lock it for us but they too cannot lock it saying previous guests have broke it so I was thinking if they know it was broken in the first place why didn't they have it fixed?! Anyway, they said they would look after the room for us and the place is safe but that didn't make us feel secured.
Nous avons passés d excellents moment avec notre hôte qui a su nous guider pour la découverte de l ile. Plusieurs services très utiles comme location de moto avec dispositif pour les surf board a prix abordable. La hutte est simple et contient tout le nécessaire. La nourriture est completement sublime, Kokai et Siargao nous manquent deja !!!!
Me alojé en el DAKU, la opción de hostel, la ubicación del lugar es lo mejor, a pocos metros de la playa y en pleno General Luna. Se trata de una única habitación con varias literas. La habitación, es amplia lo cuál se agradece cuándo es compartida por varias camas, las camas son cómodas y van equipadas con mosquitera y un pequeño locker, también dispone de varios ventiladores. Destacar el staff son súper amables y atentos, te ayudarán en lo que necesites. El precio es precio mochilero, bastante asequible. Por poner un pero, diría que en los días que estuve alojada el agua de las duchas y baño no tenía buen olor así que se hacía desagradable asearte, espero que fuera un problema puntual y lo hayan podido solucionar, el agua por cierto es fría pero es algún común en las diferentes islas de Filipinas. En general, se trata de un buen alojamiento así que lo recomendaría! :)
I had a problem with them because I did the reservation wrong, 10 minutes after I wrote them to change the days but they didn't allow me to do it. when I arrived they told me that they cancel the reservation (I thought that was to change my reservation) but no! it was to save the agoda commission! I just stayed 2 night but I had to pay 3 like in my reservation. thanks
Die kleine Anlage liegt sehr zentral in einer Seitenstrasse. An einigen Tagen muss man jedoch mit Lärm aus benachbarten Resorts rechnen, da dort regelmäßig Partys stattfinden. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Der Grund für meine Abwertung liegt jedoch beim Wasser. Das Duschwasser riecht übel, man hat das Gefühl das es sich um Brackwasser (jedoch ohne Salz) handelt. Das Wasser stinkt! Nach zwei Tagen war immer das Waschbecken braun... Trotz Nachfrage konnte das Problem nicht gelöst werden. Der Besitzer sagte mir das das Problem bekannt ist, jedoch darin nichts geändert werden könnte. Weitere Gründe für die Abwertung: -Matratze viel zu dünn, d.h. mit meinen 85kg habe ich praktisch auf einem Brett geschlafen. Ich habe mir dann die Matratze aus dem zweiten Bett druntergelegt.... -Möbel wie auch sanitären Anlagen veraltet. Positiv: -Zimme wurde regelmäßig gereinigt -Es steht ein Kühlschrank für alle zur Verfügung -sehr sehr freundliches Personal was immer weiter hilft
Positiv ist mir das Personal aufgefallen, sehr sehr freundlich, auch zu unserem Nachwuchs. Obwohl ja eigentlich keine Kinder unter 8 Jahren dort nächtigen dürfen (warum auch immer), wurde aber für uns eine Ausnahme gemacht. Negativ ist mir besonders die Einrichtung im Badezimmer aufgefallen. Eine richtige Toilettenspülung ist auf den Philippinen ja sowieso überbewertet. Die Duschbrause konnte man auch vergessen, das Wasser kam aus dem Schlauch und kaum aus der Brause. Allgemein roch es im Bad sehr chemisch/ stark nach Chlor oder ähnlich, manchmal sogar nach Fäkalien aus dem Abfluss. Nach einmal Duschen hat es mir dann auch gereicht und ich habe das Bad soweit es ging vermieden. Durch das Schmuddelwasser dort habe ich mir einen Ausschlag geholt, mein ganzer Körper war voller roter Punkte, was auch auf mein Baby überging :( Da hat man sich sauberer gefühlt, im Meer baden zu gehen. Kaum zu vergleichen mit dem Nachbarhotel Vivo Inn, welches genausoviel kostet. Das ist top.

My stay in this is resort is so basic, it has AC inside and it's spacious but the restroom is outside. It has no TV inside the room. I stayed here for 5D4N and I only paid Php6,382.40. No inclusive of breakfast. That's Php1,595.60 for 2 pax/night and I think that's already a good deal considering the location. But this is one of the accommodations in Siargao along GL area which has the lowest rate. This is near (walking distance) the well-known Bravo Resort and Mama's Grill. When I arrived in the area, I passed through the resort because I didn't notice it was Kokai. The name of the resort was changed due to change of management and I was not informed prior to my arrival. I still needed to ask from locals to locate this resort though. My stay was quite okay, staff was not that accommodating, it seems they're too much busy with the renovation works they're doing during that time. What I don't like here is, the water in the restroom smells like mud. Still a good stay in Siargao.
