We stayed at Menzel El Kateb for 3 nights in late April and had an amazing stay with Doris and Kamel, the owners. Throughout the entire stay, they ensured that we were prepared for our holiday in Djerba. The menzel has three different homes that you can choose to stay in, each with its own character. They would all serve well for large groups. They were all also quite unique and well taken care of. Because the menzel is an operating farm, you get a chance to appreciate the agricultural industry of Djerba, and you can enjoy the menzel's two dogs. (They stay out of your house in case you happen to be allergic to dogs.)
Doris and Kamel also produce jams and other spreads from the farm's crops: oranges, apples, olives, etc., which you get to enjoy during their breakfasts. Their fresh orange juice was also always welcome, and their breakfasts were immensely better than any others we had in Tunisia. They even make homemade harissa, a popular Tunisian spread that is made with peppers. We also ate dinner once on the menzel, during which they made a Djerban pumpkin and lamb wedding stew. It was the best dinner that we had during our visit to Tunisia.
Our stay at the menzel was by far the best in Tunisia, as well as many other countries we can think of that we have visited in the past few years. Dorris also helped us change our reservation dates immediately once we contacted her because we were not able to arrange transportation in time for our visit.
