I recommend getting a taxi to this hostel, as although it says 8 minutes from train station we got lost as there are lots of little streets and we didn't have a proper map! It is very close though when you know the way, so very convenient. The lady who runs the hostel was so friendly and immediately inquired if we'd like to take a tour to Taroko gorge the next day. That was great as we had no idea how we were going to get there. (I recommend taking the tour as the gorge is huge and it's a good way to get around all the sights.) We had a four bed room to ourselves on the first night, and with one other backpacker on the second night. Everything was so clean and comfortable. The bathroom is spotless. There is free shampoo and shower gel, but bring your own towel. There was also a hairdryer in the room. It's about 15/ 20 minutes to walk to Hualien centre but there are plenty of restaurants along the way too. Not much to do at night, but a beautiful and peaceful little town.
Nice hotel house, friendly staff and near to train and bus station
Nice and clean hotel, very safe, you feel like a home. Only disadvantage is one toilet for 6-8 people. But, its reasonable for back packers or family. Good kitchen...you can cook and eat. For long stay, its good place and cheap price.
