It was in a really bad location, 'deluxe double room'... It's was filthy! The bathroom was tiny and constantly smelt of sewerage, the door looked as though it had been kicked in and didn't lock, the bed was two thin, very old and uneven mattresses pushed together with dirty linen on top... The Powerpoints and light switched all sparked and buzzed everytime they were touched...
The staff were all very friendly and very accommodating though... If that helps...

This hotel is an excellent value for a quick stopover. The price was very very good. The breakfast was very very simple but beautiful. Home made cream and jam with bread which was a perfect local flavour hit. Inside the hotel the room was also interesting the window looked over to the hall. There were other rooms with outside view. There was no Wifi in the room however in the terrace I was able to get good connection. There was a slight issue with the payment beng asked again even though I paid but after sometime it was sorted out.
Nice Hotel with Good Location & Wonderful People”
The owner & staff were very helpful!
Hotel Tomboukto is conveniently located just outside the Medina and is near the tanneries. Since the hotel not in the Medina, it's easy to find and there's no need to go through the Medina's winding alleys to reach it. I liked that it's accessible by taxi, which is very convenient when you're lugging around a big and heavy backpack.
The room was nice and airy, and sunlight came through the window. Not all rooms have windows, so you might have to specify that you want a room with a window when booking. The bathroom was clean and it was easy enough to get the right water temperature for the shower. The towels were new and there was soft toilet paper available (this is not always the case when you're traveling in Morocco on a budget). Breakfast was interestingly different from the usual fare -- they made their own bread-like pancake, which was a welcome change after eating khobz (Moroccan round bread) with almost every meal for over a week. Coffee left something to be desired but you can have mint tea instead. Breakfast was served at the lovely terrace that has a nice view of the surroundings.
The best thing about staying at Hotel Toumboukto is the wonderful people in it. Ali, the new owner who speaks English, French, Arabic and German, is approachable and hands-on, and he and his staff went out of their way to help us during our stay. The young waiter-in-training always had a warm smile on his face and was generous with his bonjours. Jinno Mohammed (Ali's uncle who speaks English, Arabic and Spanish and owns a quaint restaurant that serves yummy tajines across the hotel) went beyond the call of duty to help us out and was like a genie who made our wishes come true: even without us asking, he got us scrubbing gloves for the hammam when he found out we needed them!
Wifi was available in public areas. There are also salons inside the hotel for just lounging about.
We enjoyed our stay in Hotel Tomboukto. Highly recommended!
