Where to start? We stayed here for two nights Manley's was roughly the same price as the other places, but it provided so much less.
We stayed in one of their "luxury double rooms", which was dirty (stains on carpets, loose baseboards, dirty grouting between shower tiles, shower-head which was so caked up that only about 2 streams of water came out, etc etc). As we were leaving one of their resident cockrouches tried to hitch a ride in my wife's luggage.
The breakfast (which was included) also came with a big fly in the jam pot (which stayed there the entire time we ate breakfast). They offered a cooked breakfast which was not bad and cappuccino (also good) on request. The restaurant area was equally dirty, although the staff were friendly.
Very poor management by our assessment, with the added news that the restaurant (Gerard's) management will now take over management of the historic (and previously good) Paddagang Restaurant...
The other reviews on this site were generally also good, which I can't quite explain. I really don't like to moan about places for no reason, but this one truly sucked.
Ideal for a relaxing getaway”
Ideal for self catering family stay
We had an overnight stay in the Manley self catering cottage.
The cottage consists of 3 bedrooms, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and a lounge with fireplace.
The cottage was very comfortable and ideal for our needs. We didn't find it as cosy as their other rooms, but is ideal for a family.
My only complaint is that they did not inform us we needed to bring our own soap and towels. However, the friendly receptionist did sort us out when we enquired.
Great Hotel with Excellent staff”
Cleanliness, location, value for money
The trip to Tulbagh got off to a rocky start when the lady at reception of the Manley Wine Lodge could not find our reservation. However, the situation was handled professionally and efficiently and fortunately for all concerned there was a spare room (else this review may have been very different).
The rooms are spacious and comfortable. However, the most outstanding quality was the cleanliness. The room sparkled and smelled fresh and clean. It was a great pleasure to see such meticulous cleaning from the staff. The staff in general were very friendly, chatty and attentive.
The hotel is in a great position in relation to the town of Tulbagh, which is a beautiful quaint little place that is well worth a visit.
The only downside would be the food. The restaurant was closed until further notice, which was unfortunate and the breakfast was average.
Otherwise an excellent stay
Tranquility and serenity
Beautiful and neat. Some lack on the finer details.
