Staff were extremely helpful and the location was very handy for a shopping weekend on Princes Street! The room was well “kitted out” with iron and ironing board etc!
Guests of Edinburgh local businesses ”
The Waldorf Astoria Caledonian Hotel is a classic traditional hotel with all the amenities one needs. Ideal location to accommodate overseas guests and ‘wow’ them with Scotland and Edinburgh’S charm. .
Christmas present for my husband. Staff at reception and concierge all very polite and helpful. On way to room carpet threadbare. Arrived in room disappointed. Very small. Wash hand basin blocked and disgusting stuff coming from plughole. No tissues in bathroom. Decided to stay for evening meal. Table chipped seats very uncomfortable. Waitress who served meal was lovely and very attentive. She must have been sent for her break and were ignored. Wine bottled was left on bar and girl had been filling glasses appropriately but when she left the bottle still half full was left and eventually my husband had to retrieve it himself. The restaurant manager and another member of staff stood chatting. The restaurant was not even busy. This is certainly NOT a 5 star hotel. First visit and last. Would not recommend this hotel.
Premier Queen Room
A very nice hotel in a central location with very polite and friendly staff
Overnight Getaway in Edinburgh”
YAY: very close to edinburgh waverley train station (around 10 mins walking distance) and it's right beside the edinburgh castle | hotel interior is very classy and elegant | breakfast buffet has a great selection of food | we were allowed to check in early | the staff was kind enough to show us the way around and gave us a map | fast and free internet connection in the room
BOO: we were locked inside our room and unable to open the door from inside. we called the reception for assistance and they sent an engineer to take a look and have it fixed.
Bringing Home Happy Memeories”
This has been my second time at the Caledonian. Precisely the reason why I came back are the wonderful rooms, specially the beds! The VERY EFFICIENT staff as well as the strategic location it has.
Deluxe Accessible Twin Room
Prices is a bit high .
Service is good
Breakfast is fantastic
I think I can stay once more.
Location is good.
Staffs are very nice and helpful.
There are nice restaurants around there
Lovely hotel with history - rooms slightly lagged behind public areas though”
Lovely old building with lots of history - corridors and staircases are filled with memorabilia from the old Princes Street station which apparently burned down in a fire... lots of atmosphere.
The rooms are nice but lag just a little bit behind the public areas of the hotel in terms of decor and so on. Bathroom was fine but a bit basic - again it lagged the room a bit given the that room was definitely 5 starrish but the bathroom was slightly 3 starrish... still, nothing wrong with it, just that it was more functional than luxurious.
Reasonable gym, although for some reason it was split into two small areas on two different floors instead of being one larger gym - no barbells and plates so it was all dumbbells, pulleys and cardio. There was a small pool but it wasn't very inspiring given it's 12.5 m length so we didn't try it.
Hotel bar was gorgeous - grand place worth a visit with a good band playing. Location is great, you can take the airport bus to get here and jsut cross the street to the hotel, lots of restaurants and shops around.
Overall a good hotel - got slightly eclipsed in my mind by the Scotsman where we stayed a few days later, but if that's not available, this is a good second choice.
It was our first stay at the hotel and would love to go back!!Minor niggles but nothing to diminish our stay, beautiful room and excellent staff.Peacock Alley's afternoon tea was a delight, the atmosphere was calm and relaxing.
stretched to capacity but didn't break”
staff, staff, location
We visited over christmas and the hotel was at capacity which lead to a few irritations like not being able to have a coffee because certain areas were booked out and never being able to call the front desk (no answer) but the experience was saved by the professionalism an personal courtesy of the staff always finding a workaround and finding a way to exceed expectations.
I personally think the refurbishment stripped a lot of soul out of the building and the rooms were rather generic for a period 5 star but I've no real complaints.
Well done and thanks to the whole team for a fantastic stay.
No hot water in a 5 star hotel hmmm”
Doorman was very helpful, front desk was fast and efficient
To be honest , the shower overflowed in room, we used towels and robes to dam the water, but the worst thing was no hot water for three days , quite unbelievable for a five star hotel. Pompadour is overrated and highly expensive , on top they bill you a £100 service charge for four people , this is the biggest rip off in restaraunts and not even Londin fine dining get away with that. Really taking the prevebial p on this one.
We stay in many truly world class hotels around the world , this one was not up there and is way over priced for what they think they are.
Once in a life time trip from USA. ”
The staff were fantastic the location was perfect. The view was wonderful
At first we were set up in a small no view room with steps to the bathroom. After I told them I can't do the steps in the bathroom. They were able to change us to a room with no steps and a beautiful view. The staff in the peacock alley were fantastic and very friendly. All and all very nice 5 star hotel.
