Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Collaborates with Agoda on the Eco Deals Program to support more sustainable tourism in Indonesia

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency (Kemenparekraf/Baparekraf) has collaborated with digital travel platform Agoda to support more sustainable tourism with Eco deals in Indonesia, with both large and small hotel partners.

Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, during “The Weekly Brief With Sandi Uno” at Sapta Pesona Building, Central Jakarta, on Monday (8/7/2023), stated that Agoda is one of the official co-branding partners for “Wonderful Indonesia”. With an effective MOU since May 2022, Agoda has become a long-term industry partner to support the recovery of Indonesia’s tourism sector.

“Agoda Eco Deals is a program that gives travelers the opportunity to support sustainable tourism as part of the WWF’s marine and forest conservation initiative in popular tourist destinations across 8 program countries,” he said.

Minister Sandiaga explained that in Indonesia, Agoda’s Eco Deals program supports the Ecosystem Restoration of Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park in Sumatra. This marks the second year Agoda has partnered with WWF for the Eco Deals project, after successfully donating 150 thousand US dollars across 5 markets in 2022 to raise awareness about responsible tourism, coral reef and mangrove habitat restoration.

“To demonstrate their support for Indonesia, Agoda recently launched its first advertisement in Indonesia, featuring a local celebrity, Anya Geraldine,” he added.

Meanwhile, Gede Gunawan, Senior Country Director of Agoda in Indonesia, added that they gathered data which showed that customers were very enthusiastic about this sustainable program, and many hotels also participated.

“Last year, we contributed 150 thousand US dollars, and this year it has increased to 250 thousand US dollars. The coverage has also expanded from five countries last year to eight countries this year. We hope this program benefits Indonesia,” he stated.

During the event, senior officials from levels I and II in the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency were present, both virtually and in person.
