Vietnam most popular outbound destination

Da Nang and Jeju are found the most popular destinations for Korean families looking to enjoy a vacation together. Based on 2023 search data from digital travel platform Agoda, Da Nang (Vietnam) tops the list for international travel, followed by Osaka (Japan) and Nha Trang (Vietnam). For domestic travel, Jeju ranks as the top destination, with Seoul and Busan following.

In 2023, Korean families thinking of outbound travel are opting for sunny getaways all year round. The top ten searches consist mostly of short-hop destinations, but top favorite is Vietnam’s Da Nang, with Vietnamese coastal town Nha Trang in third. Osaka, Japan comes in second to complete the outbound top 3.

For Korean families looking to share quality time domestically, family-friendly Jeju is the most popular destination. Although metropolitan Seoul ranks second, most are coastal destinations including bustling Busan (#3), Sokcho (#4), Gangneung (#6), Yeosu (#7) and Geoje (#10). Some prefer to immerse themselves in an all-family-friendly experience of culture and history, with ancient capital Gyeongju (#5) and tradition-filled Jeonju (#9) included in the top ten.

Agoda’s Family Travel Trend Survey, which polled over 14,000 family travelers from 12 markets globally, found that the top three family attractions for travel were visiting landmarks, spending time at the beach, and theme parks. Given the number two on that list, it comes as no surprise that Koreans prefer places where the sea breeze will sweep away their worries.

“Families are taking advantage of the school breaks to spend quality time on trips together. In Korea, travelers are primarily interested in family-friendly destinations which offer value for money, a wide variety of accommodation options and plenty of things to enjoy and eat, without the burden of long distances,” said Jay Lee, Country Director for South Korea at Agoda. “Planning vacations with large groups across different age groups and budgets can be a challenge.
