Vietnamese travelers stay close to home for the long break ahead

Danang will be the ‘place to be’ for travelers in Vietnam in the forthcoming extra-long weekend. Bolstered by easy access via land and air, and with a broad range of accommodation options providing access at all price-points to the area, the stunning beaches, diverse outdoor activities, and rich food culture have proven too much for Vietnam to resist this year.

The largest town in Central Vietnam will also be hosting its annual International Fireworks Festival between 30 April and 1 May, giving guests yet another reason to visit the seaside town. Neighboring Hoi An also finished in the top 15, promising a bustling weekend away in the area.

Vietnam is choosing to travel domestically for the mega-weekend that closes-out April and ushers-in May. With King Hung Memorial Day falling just before Reunification Day and International Labor Day, people in Vietnam find themselves with a long break ahead, and are taking the chance to explore their homeland in huge numbers with all of the top six and seven of the top ten destinations all within Vietnam.

As southern Vietnam heads into its warmest months and northern Vietnamese take a pre-summer break, Vietnam’s travelers are seeking respite from the heat either by heading to the cool climes of mountain retreat Dalat (#2), or sea-seeking coastal destinations including Nha Trang (#3), Phan Thiet (#4) and Phu Quoc (#5).

For those travelers from Vietnam looking beyond the borders, the bright lights of Bangkok (#7), Singapore (#8) have proven the most popular destination, followed by Seoul (#10) and Taipei (#12) have proven appealing, where increasing service from LCCs and liberalized visa policies have made Korea and Taiwan more accessible to Vietnamese travelers.

The top 20 destinations are as follows:
