How Travelers Use Homestays Around the World
Fancy your own private villa? Or waking up in a quirky themed apartment? Or standing in your own kitchen and seeing a mountain view you’ve never seen before? From quirky to luxurious, homestays and other non-hotel accommodation options are becoming more popular than ever with travelers around the world. Our latest Tech & Travel Study reveals the motivations behind this global trend.
Traveling close to home? You’ll want to stay in a home too
Domestic travelers are more likely to book homestays over hotels. But they are also more likely to consider booking privately-owned properties when traveling to their neighbors – neighboring countries that is!
Over 70% of travelers from Indonesia, Singapore, The Philippines and Thailand will consider booking homestays when traveling within Asia. Similarly, approximately 80% of travelers from UK, US and Australia will also consider booking a privately-owned home within their home continents.
Traveling with an entourage? You’re more likely to book a non-hotel property
Indonesians, Malaysians and Filipinos often travel with families and larger groups, and the homestay gives them more space to fit everyone together. Singaporeans, Thais and Australians view homestays as a cheaper alternative to hotels, and adventurous Chinese travelers choose homestays to get a more local travel experience.
