We explored the wonders of Munnar, Kodai and Coimbatore in 6 days. If you are seeking time alone in the laps of nature, with your dear ones, consider these places. Adorned with cascading waterfalls, shimmering lakes and undulating green hills, these towns leave you awestruck with their natural beauty.
We arrived at Kochi Airport, and cruised the roads of Kerala to reach Munnar. We booked our accommodation at Shola Crown Resort, conveniently situated in the Chinnakanal part of Munnar. On Day 1, we enjoyed Kolukkumalai sunrise. Next, we explored the Eravikulam National Park followed by Viripara, Perumbankuthu & Anakulum Waterfalls and Elephant view point. The low Western Ghats scenery was magnificent to watch and we were often up above the clouds watching veils of mist clinging to mountaintops. Everything felt surreal.
On day 2 of our Munnar Trip, we opted for local sightseeing. We enjoyed breathtaking greenery, tea plantations, waterfalls, wildlife view points and pleasant weather. We explored forest rose garden, photo point, mattupatty dam, sunmoon valley boating & park, shooting point, wild elephant arrival spot, kundale lake and Topstation. We were literally in awe to see that if you wander just a few miles out, you’ll be engulfed in a sea of a thousand shades of green. Munnar is truly every traveller’s dream.
On our last day in Munnar, we experienced a thrilling jeep safari. Starting in the morning, we cruised through spice plantation, witnessed scenic views, and felt a surge of adrenaline as the jeep enters the deep forest with off-road paths. After crossing a mountain, we trekked to Letchmi Hills & 7 Hills, finally reaching a waterfall hidden deep inside the heart of the forest. We sat there, enjoyed the view and breeze onto our faces and had the most incredible time.
On day 4, after our arrival in Kodaikanal, we booked our stay at Poppy’s Plesant Stay Hostel. After breakfast, we left for local sightseeing, covering Lutheran Church, Bear Shola Falls, Pamber Falls, Guna Caves, Pillar Rocks, Green Valley View and Dolphins Nose. Next day, we visited Poombarai, a village 50 minutes away from Kodaikanal lake which offers a mix of sweeping valley views, terraced cultivations, a historic temple, and Kookal lake. Built around an exotic star shaped lake, Kodaikanal exudes ethereal charm like that of fairy-tales. This was our short trip to Kodai but if you have time, make sure you stay here for atleast 3-4 days to soak in all the beautiful vibes.
On Day 6, we arrived at Coimbatore and checked into Hotel Park Elanza. We saw the highest Shiva statue – Adiyogi, a 112 feet statue inaugrated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sadhguru. It is based in the foothills of Velliagiri mountains and is a part of Isha Yoga Center. This Center also has a Dhyanalinga, a unique energy form kept under a pillarless 250,000 brick dome. We meditated and experienced the peace this center had to offer.
