- Wat Xieng Thong, Khem Khong Street: sometimes called the “Golden City Temple,” Wat Xieng Thong dates to the 16th century and features a “tree of life” mosaic.
- Wat Wisunarat (Wat Visoun): also known as Wat Visoun, this temple is Luang Prabang’s oldest, having been built in 1513. Visitors will find a collection of ancient Buddha statues inside and a stupa on top that looks like a watermelon.
- Wat Long Khoun: across the Mekong from the Historic District island is this lesser-known temple, which should be admired for its unique murals and traditional wooden architecture. It’s also a peaceful getaway from the main tourist areas.
- Wat Manorom: officially known as Wat Thatpathoumaram, Wat Manorom features a multi-tiered roof and traditional Laos architecture. Guests can view 14th-century structures throughout the complex and in the main hall.
