Things to Do in Langkawi | 5 Top Seaside Activities & Outdoor Attractions

Known as the Jewel of Kedah, Langkawi is one of Malaysia’s best-kept secrets. The island district is an incredible jungle zone, so many things to do in Langkawi revolve around outdoor activities. Two can’t-miss activities in Langkawi are walking across Langkawi Sky Bridge and exploring Kilim Geoforest Park. Plus, with an international airport, Langkawi makes an easy getaway from busy cities like Penang and KL.

1. Langkawi Sky Bridge

Riding a cable car and crossing Langkawi Sky Bridge on foot is one reason why tourists choose to visit Langkawi. The curved masterpiece is the longest free span and curved bridge in the world. Pedestrians who embark on the adventure can walk between two peaks of Gunung Machinchang and enjoy scenic views of the Strait of Malacca and nearby Seven Wells Waterfall. The first stop takes place at Langkawi Skybridge Cable Car (in Oriental Village near Pantai Kok on the west side of the main island) where guests are carried by gondola to Langkawi Sky Bridge. The bridge is 410 feet (125 meters) long, 6 feet (1.8 meters) wide and 2,165 feet (660 meters) above sea level. Several shops selling souvenirs, coffees and snacks are set up near the cable car boarding platform.

Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Ticket prices: 6 MYR (1.45 USD) for adults and 4 MYR (1 USD) for children

Anyone boarding the cable car to Langkawi Sky Bridge will have to go through Oriental Village first, but the open-air theme park is worth a visit on its own. The colorful little village is built around a lake and features dozens of local boutiques, places to eat and souvenir shops. Visitors can enjoy paddle boating on the lake, goofing around at 3D Art in Paradise Langkawi or watching a 360-degree show at Sky Dome. Sky Rex movie theater also is a popular entertainment venue at Oriental Village. Outdoor enthusiasts will find ropes courses nearby at SKYTREX Adventure Langkawi, next to Perdana Quay Eco Marine Park.

5. Explore Langkawi’s Nature

Langkawi has no shortage of nature, and two of the best places to enjoy the great outdoors are in the jungle and on the beach. These two attractions in Langkawi feature outdoor activities, but both radiate their own special vibes. For mangrove forests, cave crawling and a noticeable absence of noise, travelers should plan a trip to Kilim Geoforest Park. For watersports, beachfront bars and nightlife, Pantai Cenang is the place to hang out.

  • Kilim Geoforest Park – a quick way to explore this park is by hopping on a cruise down the Kilim River, but visitors are welcome to take their time on dry land and explore the area’s mangrove forests, caves, beaches and limestone cliffs.
  • Pantai Cenang – while this strip of sand is loved for its nightlife, it also is seen as a family fun arena. By day, the beach entertains visitors with water activities like jet skiing and parasailing. At night, beachfront bars offer live music and ice-cold drinks. Cenang Beach is near Underwater World Langkawi and The Zon Duty Free Zone store.
