According to ancient beliefs, Loy Krathong is an opportunity to both apologize and show respect to the Goddess of Water. Each region of Thailand has its own unique Loy Krathong celebrations. For example, the northern region is known for the Yi Peng Lantern Festival, while some areas host the Candle and Fire Festival. This year, Loy Krathong falls on November 15th, with many provinces hosting events over several days to accommodate tourists. The Colors of the Water Loy Krathong Festival 2024 – Bangkok

This Loy Krathong event will take place from November 13 – 16, 2024, along the Phadung Krung Kasem Canal in the Hua Lamphong area. In addition to floating krathongs, it will feature illuminated decorations along both sides of the canal. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely stroll, listen to live music, and savor delicious food from local vendors in the area.

Loy Krathong Festival at Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchawaramahawihan – Bangkok

Another Loy Krathong event in Bangkok worth visiting takes place at Wat Arun. It’s a great opportunity to experience the temple in a different atmosphere. With an unobstructed view free from tall buildings, visitors can effortlessly capture the full moon that night and float their krathongs along the Chao Phraya River.

Loy Krathong Kab Kluai Festival of Mae Klong – Samut Songkram

For those looking to experience Loy Krathong outside of the city but with limited travel time, Samut Songkhram is the perfect destination. The Mae Klong’s Loy Krathong is unique, as Krathongs here are made from banana leaf-sheaf, adorned with locally renowned incense sticks that burn for a long time. You can witness 100,000 of these krathongs illuminating the Mae Klong River. The event takes place at Phumarin Kudi Thong Temple in Amphawa and King Rama II Park from November 15 – 17, 2024.

Sukhothai Loy Krathong and Candle Festival – Sukhothai

This is the annual Loy Krathong Festival in Sukhothai , considered the biggest event of the year, running for a full 10 days from November 8 – 17, 2024, at the Sukhothai Historical Park. A charming aspect of the festival is the opportunity to step back in time and walk through the ancient market, where visitors exchange cash for cowrie shells (Thailand’s ancient currency) to purchase goods, just like in the old days.

Krathong Sai Loy Krathong Festival – Tak

This eventis a highlight of Tak Province , taking place at the base of the Somphot Krung Rattanakosin 200th Anniversary Bridge (Lan Krathong Sai). Visitors will witness a procession of over 1,000 krathongs made from coconut shells, illuminated with beeswax candles, floating down the Ping River. The event runs from November 15 – 18, 2024.

Yi Peng Festival – Chiang Mai

The Yi Peng Festival in Chiang Mai is a unique Lanna tradition, symbolizing the release of sorrow by releasing lanterns to float away in the night sky. This year, it runs from November 14 – 17, 2024, with activities across the province and the main events centered at Tha Phae Gate, including the opening ceremony.

Samana Nam Kuen Peng Seng Prateep – Roi Et

This event takes place at Somdet Phra Srinagarindra Park Roi Et, around Bueng Phalan Chai in Roi Et, on November 14 and 15, 2024. It features the Northeastern style of Loy Krathong, beginning with a ceremony to pay homage to local deities, a large krathong contest, and cultural performances.

Betong 21 International Half Marathon – Yala

Pla Ra Molam: Isan to the World – Khon Kaen

From December 26 – 29, 2024, fans of Isan cuisine should head to Khon Kaen Innovation Centre in Khon Kaen. Enjoy authentic Molam (a traditional folk music and performance from northeast Thailand), and dishes crafted from Pla ra (fermented fish), along with other Isan foods without Pla ra.

Hidden Gem Food Festival – Bangkok

An international music festival held over two days (November 23 – 24, 2024) at ESC Park in Pathum Thani, featuring different lineups each day. November 23rd includes artists like White Lines, Hippo Campus, and Addy, while November 24th features Air, Hitsujibungaku, John Carroll Kirby, and Aroaroy.

Wonderfruit – Chonburi

A hip music festival with an environmental focus, held at The Fields, Siam Country Club. This year’s theme celebrates Isan culture with Molam music, alongside performances by famous artists and numerous food and retail vendors, from December 12 – 16, 2024.

Rolling loud Thailand 2024 – Chonburi

Running from November 22 – 24, 2024, at Legend Siam near Pattaya, this festival features nearly 100 artists, including A$AP Rocky, Lil Wayne, Playboi Carti, and several hip-hop DJs to energize the event.

Vijit Chao Phraya 2024 – Bangkok

Awakening Bangkok 2024 – Bangkok

Returning for its 7th year, this light and digital art festival runs from November 8 – 17, 2024, featuring six main locations like Yodpiman, Museum Siam, and Saranrom Park, Rommaneenat Park, and Bangkok Metropolitan Administration City Hall, open from 6 PM to 11 PM.

Na Satta Light Festival 2025 – Ratchaburi

This is Ratchaburi’s grand multimedia light festival. Held at Na Satta Thai Park from November 21, 2024, to April 27, 2025 (closed on Mondays), the festival showcases the artistry of Thai creators.

Pattaya International Fireworks Festival 2024 – Chonburi
